Chapter 361: Blood Splattered on the Tenement Building

~8 min read 1,461 words

Deep in the night, all was silent.

He Yuzhu slipped out of his hotel room without a sound, found a secluded corner, released a Bentley from his space, and drove straight toward East Kowloon.

A Long's dying confession echoed in his mind: The second-in-command, He Guangdeng, nicknamed Dabideng, was once Ge Laoda's driver and Bodyguard. He possessed formidable Kung Fu, so he didn't keep many guards... and often stayed at his Third Concubine's residence.

The car traveled through the night for half an hour, arriving at Nanjiao Road in Kowloon City.

He Yuzhu retracted the Bentley into his space, his figure merging into the shadows of the street as he slowly searched for the house number.

Number 23 soon came into view; it was an inconspicuous, old tenement building.

He found a remote alley, pulled on a black mask, then climbed onto the roof of a nearby house. He walked across the rooftops as if on flat ground and soon arrived at Number 23.

He activated the system's Scanning Function and discovered six people inside the second floor.

It seemed Dabideng was indeed staying in this building tonight.

He Yuzhu jumped down from the roof, skillfully picked the lock of the grocery store downstairs with a blade, and slipped inside.

The shop was pitch black and filled with the smell of tobacco; it was a wholesale cigarette shop.

He Yuzhu did not stand on ceremony and collected all the various cigarettes inside into his space.

There was a staircase in the shop leading upstairs. He went up slowly and found a makeshift security room at the top of the stairs. Through a crack in the door, he saw three night-watch thugs dozing off against their chair backs.

He Yuzhu's thoughts stirred, and he took the three of them into his space.

Before him was a long corridor with three rooms side by side.

He walked slowly into the first room; the door was ajar, and heavy snoring came from within.

A man lay on the bed in a deep sleep.

He Yuzhu approached quietly, his hands gripping the man's neck like iron pincers. With a "Crack!", the big man's snoring stopped abruptly.

He exited the room and turned toward the second.

The door was locked tight, but through Scanning, he discovered a man and a woman sleeping inside.

The person living here must be Dabideng.

He Yuzhu suddenly thought of the stratagem of Jiang Gan stealing the letters from *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*.

He fished a blade from his space, inserted it into the door gap, and deliberately made a scraping sound.

Dabideng had been a Bodyguard for a long time; even while sleeping, he would wake up at the slightest sound.

He quickly reached under his pillow for his gun, found it missing, then went to reach for a Dagger under the bed, but that was gone too.

He immediately felt something was wrong, woke the Third Concubine sleeping beside him, and whispered, "There is an assassin outside. I'm putting you in the wall cavity; if I die, go report it to the boss."

Dabideng was truly a man; knowing he was in danger, he still thought of protecting his woman.

The Third Concubine shook her head: "They are here for you, you should hide!"

Dabideng said nothing and shoved the Third Concubine directly into the wall cavity.

Seeing that someone had hidden, He Yuzhu finally opened the door.

The moment he opened the door, a chair came flying toward him with a gust of wind.

He ducked, and the chair smashed against the door, shattering into pieces.

He Yuzhu pressed against the wall and turned on the light.

A man of about forty, short but sturdy with an exceptionally large nose, was standing in a fighting stance, looking at He Yuzhu. "Who are you?"

"Big nose, you must be Dabideng, right?" He Yuzhu asked flippantly.

"Brother, which path are you from?"

"I'm not from any path, just a killer. I have no grudge against you; I was entrusted by someone to come and take your life!" He Yuzhu said indifferently.

"Brother, can you let me go? I can give you money," Dabideng asked.

"I'm a man who sticks to his word. Whoever hired me first, I must finish the job. Money is useless!"

He Guangdeng nodded: "Can you tell me who hired you? Let me die knowing the truth!"

"Technically, I shouldn't reveal the employer's name, but since you won't survive today, it doesn't matter if I tell you—Wang Laoji of Fuyixing."

"I understand, it was him behind the scenes stirring up the conflict between our 14K and the Yi'an Gang, right?"

"I really don't know about that, but if I kill you today, the conflict between you and the Yi'an Gang should become a blood feud," He Yuzhu said with a smile.

"Shameless old man!" Dabideng cursed.

The reason He Yuzhu said so much to Dabideng was also for the sake of the person hiding.

His goal achieved, He Yuzhu would not waste another word; he swung his Dagger rapidly.

Dabideng took a step back and narrowly dodged it.

"Your Kung Fu is quite good. There are few people in this world who can dodge that move of mine!" He Yuzhu said.

Dabideng knew he had met his match. He had always been famous for his speed, but he hadn't expected this kid to be several times faster than him. He knew his time was up.

He Yuzhu attacked again, executing a forward-stepping upward thrust.

Dabideng failed to dodge this blade.

With a "Puff!", the Dagger pierced directly into his heart.

"Ah!" Dabideng let out a cry and tried to lock He Yuzhu's neck with his hands, but they hung down powerlessly, and his body fell straight to the ground.

In Yuen Long, at Lingyun Temple, sandalwood incense curled in a simple dormitory room.

After Ge Laoda got up, he was sitting cross-legged in meditation, eyes closed, regulating his breath.

A guard rushed in, looking nervous, and said: "General, Miss Chunxiang is here, and she seems quite anxious!"

Ge Laoda's heart tightened; he stood up and waved his hand: "Quickly, let her in."

After a moment, a young woman stumbled into the room.

Her hair was disheveled, her clothes were in disarray, and there were tear stains on her face.

Ge Laoda stood up, held her shoulders, and asked: "Cousin, you, what has happened to you?"

Chunxiang was trembling all over, sobbing uncontrollably: "Cousin... Guangdeng, Guangdeng he... has been killed!"

"What?" Ge Laoda's pupils constricted, "When did this happen?"

"Just in the night... around four o'clock, someone snuck into my place, and Guangdeng pushed me into the wall cavity..." She became more agitated as she spoke, nearly unable to stand steady.

Ge Laoda's face turned livid, and he kicked the coffee table over; the teapot and teacups shattered with a "clatter."

"Do you know who did it?"

Chunxiang nodded forcefully, hatred erupting in her eyes: "Guangdeng asked the assassin, and the assassin said it was Wang Laoji of the Fuyixing who hired him!"

"Is it credible? Could it be someone trying to sow discord?" Ge Laoda said, rubbing his Buddhist prayer beads.

"I was hiding in the wall cavity; the assassin had no reason to lie. That assassin had high-level martial arts and didn't take Guangdeng seriously at all. According to what he implied, our conflict with the Yi'an Gang was also instigated by Wang Laoji from behind the scenes."

The room was deathly silent, save for Chunxiang's sobbing.

Ge Laoda suddenly stood up, looked at a guard standing by the door, and said: "Gather the men!"

The guard replied: "Yes!"

Over the next few days, He Yuzhu accompanied Zhang Shuying to sing for money every day, taking the opportunity to listen for news from the streets.

All sorts of news came one after another: Wang Laoji was stabbed to death at a mahjong parlor... the Yi'an Gang and 14K had a bloody battle, with over a hundred people dead... many of Fuyixing's gambling dens were smashed...

At Aiyuan Villa, Liu Rusi stood by the window, her slightly protruding belly prominent, looking out at the sea.

"Miss, 14K and Fuyixing are likely locked in a fight to the death this time; they have ten clashes every day, and each clash results in dozens of deaths... and that kid," Pingping paused, "that bastard found a woman and even bought a house for her..."

Liu Rusi sighed: "He hates me to the bone!"

"That kid spends every day in Temple Street accompanying that woman to sing..." Pingping said with a gloomy face.

"He's challenging me! We've been there twice, and people still recognized us!" Liu Rusi said.

"Miss, are you just going to watch this kid and that woman..."
