Chapter 369: Uninvited Guests on the Island

~7 min read 1,355 words

Pingping stepped forward and reminded him in a soft voice, "We should head back; the people on the island are still waiting for us!"

Only then did He Yuzhu release Liu Rusi and turn to start the engine. The Fishing Boat broke through the waves and sped toward Henglan Island.

Silvery-white light danced and flickered between the undulating waves; He Yuzhu gazed ahead, and the knot of anxiety in his heart dissipated.

Pingping walked to his side and lowered her voice, "After we go back, you and the young lady should go get your marriage certificate; you don't need an introduction letter here."

He Yuzhu nodded, "Definitely! Definitely!"

Pingping paused, then asked, "Then what do you plan to do with the one by your side?"

He Yuzhu was silent for a moment, then said candidly, "I cannot drive her away; in fact, she has been with me even longer than my sister has."

Pingping realized, "You must mean the one living near Shichahai, right?"

He Yuzhu did not deny it, instead asking, "Who exactly is my sister working for now?"

Pingping shook her head, "I really cannot say. You only need to know that she, like you, is working for the country now!"

He Yuzhu stopped pressing and said confidently, "When we return to Hong Kong, I will help you organize a special team to protect my sister. In the future, you won't have to charge to the front yourselves for these kinds of operations!"

"The organization doesn't have that much funding," Pingping sighed.

"I'll pay for it. I made a small fortune recently," He Yuzhu said proudly.

Pingping reached out, her eyes filled with a smile, "Then give me a tip!"

"You're becoming more and more mercenary!" He Yuzhu reluctantly took out an Omega watch and handed it over.

"This is called 'when in Rome, do as the Romans do'!" Pingping took the watch, saw it was covered in dust, blew on it, and wiped it vigorously, "It really is a good watch!" She then stuffed it into her pocket, the corners of her mouth curling into an arc.

"Doesn't Zhao Ying give you a share of the profits?" He Yuzhu asked.

"She has spread her operations too thin. Now that the United States has implemented an embargo on Hong Kong, business at the Bicycle Factory has slowed, and the shipping company has a lot of backlogged cargo... it hasn't been easy for her either!" Pingping said truthfully.

He Yuzhu nodded and said nothing more.

As the Fishing Boat gradually approached Henglan Island, He Yuzhu suddenly noticed light and shadows moving on the sea surface.

Dozens of fishing boats were approaching the beach from different directions.

Pingping's expression changed, "Oh no, could the British have discovered our tracks?"

He Yuzhu turned off the engine, letting the boat glide silently on its momentum.

He took out his Telescope to look into the distance, "It shouldn't be the Police; they all look like fishing boats."

"Then what should we do?" Pingping asked with some anxiety.

He Yuzhu mused, "Don't be afraid. Our people aren't stupid. With so many people arriving suddenly without distinguishing friend from foe, they will definitely hide."

Liu Rusi also walked over and said in a firm tone, "No matter what, we must go onto the island and bring them all out!"

He Yuzhu smiled, "No problem, but we have to land somewhere else. Let's go to the other side of the island; it's all cliff faces there, so it won't be easily discovered."

"But can we get up?" Pingping asked.

"With me here, what does it matter if it's a vertical cliff?" He Yuzhu's tone carried a hint of self-satisfaction.

Pingping curled her lip.

Liu Rusi said decisively, "Follow your plan."

He Yuzhu immediately turned the boat, pushed the throttle to the limit, and the Fishing Boat bounced and sped through the waves, circling to the other side of the island before long.

He turned on the searchlight to scan the cliffs, and soon, he found a relatively flat section of the cliff, brought the boat close to a stop, and threw a grappling hook onto a rock.

He climbed up quickly like a nimble monkey, tied the rope securely, returned, and carried Liu Rusi and Pingping up to the cliff top one by one.

He Yuzhu then hoisted a large wooden crate up from the boat.

Pingping asked, "What is in here?"

"It's all guns and ammunition. If we end up in a fight, how can we manage without weapons?" He Yuzhu said.

"Leave the box here for now! Finding the people is more important!" Liu Rusi said with a hint of urgency.

He Yuzhu nodded, "Sister, don't worry too much. They all have handguns on them; even if there is a firefight, they will be fine for a while."

"They are all technical personnel in the organization; we cannot afford any losses! Let's go quickly!" Liu Rusi saw He Yuzhu dawdling and ordered.

He Yuzhu chuckled, "Sister, you aren't in the best condition; if I said you'd be more of a hindrance than a help, would you believe me?"

Liu Rusi shook her head, "No, I must go. There is strength in numbers; we must find them as soon as possible."

He Yuzhu thought to himself, once you get on the island, you'll see; there are no paths here at all, just thorns and weeds, and one careless step means a wound.

He Yuzhu and his group climbed slowly toward higher ground, seeing that fishing boats were still continuously arriving at the beach.

Liu Rusi looked through the Telescope for a long time and whispered, "These people must be from the gangs."

"They should be from the 14K. This time, they beat the Fuyixing gang badly; they must be here to divide the spoils," He Yuzhu said.

Pingping added, "The island is so big, we won't be able to find them by dawn, will we?"

He Yuzhu pointed to the highest point on the island and said, "If I'm not mistaken, they should be at that high ground. Martin and the others have fought battles with me; they understand the principle of seizing the high ground."

Liu Rusi said, "Let's go. Don't look anywhere else, go straight up!"

He Yuzhu looked toward the distant peak and said, "Sister, it looks close, but it's actually quite far, and the path isn't easy to walk; it will take at least two hours."

Liu Rusi did not stop her pace, "No matter what, we must find them. I always feel the 14K is making too much of a scene this time; perhaps the mantis stalks the cicada, while the British are behind..."

He Yuzhu agreed, "My sister is truly sharp; you hit the nail on the head!"

"Stop with the flattery! Keep moving!" Liu Rusi said.

"Sister, if you get tired, just tell me, and I'll carry you."

"Not yet," Liu Rusi replied, her gaze already fixed on the heights.

Halfway there, Liu Rusi could no longer walk; she leaned against the rock wall, panting, "You go on ahead... I will follow slowly."

He Yuzhu said nothing, turned and squatted down, hoisted her onto his back, and hurried up the mountain.

Pingping was also struggling to keep up behind them and couldn't help but curse, "You donkey! Walk slower, I can't keep up!"

He Yuzhu, however, did not stop his pace, moving as if flying.

More than an hour passed, and the three of them finally approached the mountaintop. He Yuzhu took out a flashlight and drew three bright arcs in the darkness.

Before long, Martin's lowered voice came from above: "Zhuzi! Is that you?"

"It is. Is everyone alright?"

"Everyone is fine, we only just arrived ourselves. Why are there so many boats down there? Is it the Police searching for us?" Martin asked with some concern.

He Yuzhu shook his head: "It is not the Police, they are all people from the gangs."

"What should we do?" Martin gripped the gun in his hand tightly.

"We cannot stay on this island for long, we are pulling out immediately," Liu Rusi ordered.
