Chapter 376: The Aliens Take the Blame

~8 min read 1,412 words

The courtyard instantly exploded into chaos; over a hundred soldiers stationed there rushed out, some to fight the fires and others to rescue people in the pillboxes.

The alarm sounded immediately, tearing through the night sky.

He Yuzhu moved quickly through the woods, shifted to the other side, and pressed the button again.

A second explosion followed in quick succession, and the pillbox at the northwest corner was shattered by the blast; several soldiers nearby were thrown into mid-air by the shockwave.

The courtyard was in total disarray.

Soldiers scrambled desperately toward the main gate, only to be met by the third and fourth waves of explosions at that very moment.

The pillboxes at the southeast and southwest corners were detonated simultaneously.

The dense crowd had nowhere to hide; in an instant, over twenty people were killed or wounded, and with screams and dust filling the air, it was impossible to tell friend from foe for a time.

It was at this moment that He Yuzhu slipped into the vicinity of the armory.

He snuck into the R&D workshop and the maintenance workshop one after another, stowing every piece of equipment he could see into his space.

He then turned toward the ammunition depot, where soldiers were on guard in front of every warehouse door.

However, they were not staying in the guardroom but were out looking around, which gave He Yuzhu his chance.

He struck like lightning, quickly neutralized the guards, and pried open the warehouse doors.

Warehouse No. 1 was stacked with over thirty large wooden crates.

He pried one open to find it full of MK5 Pistols and Inch Pistol Ammo, all of which he quickly cleared away.

When He Yuzhu entered Warehouse No. 2, his heart went cold.

Inside were over thirty Coastal Defense Cannons, several of which were covered in rust.

He Yuzhu knew these cannons were antiques, but they were still resources if melted down for steel, and the shells nearby could be dismantled to use the explosives inside.

Therefore, he did not let these antiques go and stowed them all into his space as well.

Upon entering Warehouse No. 3, He Yuzhu opened a crate and was so excited he nearly jumped; the crates were filled with Yellow Explosive and Detonators.

A rough estimate put it at several dozen tons of Yellow Explosive and thousands of Detonators.

He had been worrying about a lack of supplies, and this would be enough to last him for years.

Just as he was rapidly collecting the explosives, the sound of dense footsteps came from the courtyard, drawing closer and closer.

"Damn, someone finally saw through his diversionary tactic!"

Just as He Yuzhu was about to rush out of the warehouse, the chaotic footsteps were already very close to him.

His pupils constricted, and he quickly flashed into his space.

A moment later, a roar erupted in the warehouse: "Dawei! How did you guard this warehouse? It's been completely emptied!"

Dawei stared at the empty warehouse before him and rubbed his eyes hard; he could not believe that the crates which had been piled like a mountain during his morning inspection were now all gone. His voice trembling, he replied: "Major General Aili, I, I checked it myself this morning, this is impossible..."

"Are you saying I'm senile and can't even see that a warehouse is empty?" Aili's voice was nearly a roar.

"General, even if there were many intruders, it would be impossible to move over a hundred wooden crates in such a short time—unless it was aliens. Yes, it must have been aliens who moved them away with a UFO! Their speed is very fast!" Dawei explained.

"Smack!" A loud slap rang out.

"Sophistry!" Aili had lost his patience, feeling that the man before him was simply being unreasonable.

"General, on July 19th of last year in Washington, countless people saw a UFO with their own eyes, why don't you believe it?" He touched his swollen cheek and said, "General, from the moment the four pillboxes in the courtyard were destroyed until now, it hasn't even been an hour, and three warehouses have been emptied simultaneously. This is definitely not the work of human hands!"

At this moment, several soldiers also gathered around, and one bold white soldier said: "General, our Warehouse Management Platoon checks the inventory with Major Dawei every day. Even if these explosives were easy to move, those Coastal Defense Cannons weigh several tons each; who could move them? Don't you think this is... too bizarre?"

Aili said: "Even if what you say makes sense, how am I supposed to submit this report to Congress? Who would believe it?"

Dawei looked at his watch and responded: "Your Excellency General, if you don't dare to write it, I will. I firmly believe this was done by aliens."

General Aili said irritably: "Fine, then write me an investigation report with detailed testimonies and evidence!"

Just then, a soldier ran over in a hurry and shouted: "Report to the Major General! Major Dawei! The equipment in the weapons research lab and the Maintenance Department... has all been moved away!"

Upon hearing this, Major General Aili cursed: "Damn it... this is getting too bizarre!" He waved his hand and ordered: "Let's go, let's go over and take a look!"

Hearing the footsteps fade into the distance, He Yuzhu finally emerged from his space; he slipped out of the warehouse silently and climbed over the wall under the cover of darkness.

Two days later, in the early morning, the entire Port City was in an uproar.

The news of the attack on the Water Police Headquarters and the emptying of the armory had fermented for two days and spread through every street and alley.

Newspapers reported it on their front pages; the tabloids had sensational headlines, even attributing the event to "aliens," while the mainstream broadsheets used a restrained tone, stating only the facts without comment.

Pressure surged toward the Governor's House like a tidal wave.

Governor Ge Lianghong urgently summoned Police Commissioner Mai Jingtao, garrison commander Major General Aili, and others for an emergency meeting.

The atmosphere in the conference room was heavy, and no one looked pleased.

Ge Lianghong spoke first: "Since we began governing Hong Kong, we have never seen such a serious incident. Recently, vicious cases have occurred one after another; everyone speak up—the Police Department explosion, the bombing of the Water Police Headquarters, and now the theft from the air force armory. You are all in charge of public security; tell me, were these things done by the same group of people?"

Major General Aili reported: "After two days of detailed investigation, from the time the armory was attacked to when it was emptied, it took less than an hour. This is definitely not something an ordinary person could do. Although I don't believe in aliens or UFOs, the facts are right before our eyes..."

Ge Lianghong mused: "I have always trusted your character and judgment, and on this point, I believe you."

Mai Jingtao, standing to the side, thought to himself: What a pair of old foxes. I bet you sold the arms privately, found a few soldiers to testify, and then concluded it was aliens—it's a classic case of a thief crying 'stop thief'. But I can't do anything about this.

He sighed and said: "If I also said it was done by aliens, I'm afraid no one would believe it! Therefore, I firmly believe this incident was still the work of that sniper. As long as we don't catch him, we will have no peace!"

Ge Lianghong immediately instructed: "Good! I agree; mobilize the police force as soon as possible and bring him to justice!"

Just then, Ge Lianghong's Secretary rushed in and handed over a letter.

Ge Lianghong's expression changed drastically after reading it, and he handed the letter to Mai Jingtao: "The person who bombed the Water Police Headquarters has surfaced—they actually want us to deliver the ten crates of Penicillin we confiscated to Henglan Island. I have never seen such an arrogant scoundrel in my life!"

He turned to General Aili and said sternly: "General, I will send the Penicillin to Henglan Island; you mobilize all the ships to surround the place and blast it flat with cannons!"

Aili also lost his temper and said: "This group killed over three hundred of my soldiers; that debt hasn't been repaid yet, and now they've delivered themselves to our doorstep!"
