Chapter 507: The Female Bandit is Caught
He Yuzhu suddenly laughed, his eyes fixed on this old bandit: "I won't survive if I fall into your hands anyway, so why don't you tell me, who exactly is the other secret agent in town? Satisfy my curiosity!"
The old bandit grinned, ignoring He Yuzhu's words entirely. He raised his Mauser C96, aimed it at He Yuzhu, and shouted to the side: "Liu Laosan, tie him up. In a while, I'll go plead with the Big Boss; maybe you'll still have a chance to live!"
Upon hearing this, Liu Laosan felt as if a thousand-pound burden had been lifted. He took several deep, gasping breaths—having held his breath in fear just moments before—and hurriedly replied: "Many thanks! Many thanks! Where is the Rope?"
The old bandit glanced sideways into the room.
Liu Laosan rushed in, grabbed a bundle of hemp rope from the floor, and ran back, immediately starting to bind He Yuzhu without a word.
He Yuzhu gritted his teeth and cursed: "Liu Laosan, be gentle, damn you!"
Liu Laosan, however, seemed to be venting his pent-up anger; not only did he use force, but he also kicked him hard.
Just then, lights began to flicker on the road below the slope—more than thirty people were walking toward them holding torches.
The old bandit kicked He Yuzhu in the leg and barked: "Move, quickly!"
He Yuzhu was pushed down the slope, stumbling and pretending to trip along the way.
The old bandit shouted aloud: "Big Boss, your prediction was spot on! The Police really took the bait, and they even sent someone looking for death. Do you want us to finish him off right here?"
Xie Zhuqing stepped forward and shone a flashlight onto He Yuzhu's face; the beam of light made him squint.
She let out a laugh: "Still quite young, it would be a pity to kill him. Kid, are you willing to work for me?"
"I am!" He Yuzhu replied while quickly Scanning his surroundings.
On one side was a steep cliff, and on the other was a small reservoir shimmering with cold light. The mountain path was narrow, only a few meters wide, and three meters away stood a large boulder half the height of a person.
Making a move here might offer a glimmer of hope.
His thoughts raced, and he immediately said: "Boss Xie, although I'm afraid of death, I also think you should wake up. The Bald Party has already reached the island; why are you still jumping into the fire at a time like this? Don't you think that's stupid?"
Xie Zhuqing's eyes narrowed: "Hey! You kid have some nerve, daring to try and persuade me to surrender. You must have some background, don't you?"
Liu Laosan suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs: "Big Boss Xie, this kid is named He Yuzhu, he's a leader on the Police side!"
Upon hearing this, Xie Zhuqing's expression changed drastically—she had heard this name from An Daiyuan more than once—and she instinctively stepped back.
In a flash, He Yuzhu exerted force and leaped forward, the hemp rope on his body snapping into several pieces with a "pop"! Like a cheetah, he lunged to Xie Zhuqing's side, grabbed her throat, and dragged her behind the large boulder.
"Let go of the Big Boss!" several guards hurriedly drew their guns.
He Yuzhu had already pinned Xie Zhuqing firmly behind the rock and chopped the side of her neck with his palm, causing her to collapse on the spot.
With a thought, Xie Zhuqing vanished from where she stood, taken into his space.
Almost simultaneously, bullets hit the rock with a "bang, bang, bang," sending sparks flying.
Since the target was secured, there was no need to keep these bandits alive.
Without hesitation, He Yuzhu pulled out a Hand Grenade and threw them one after another at the bandits who had nowhere to hide.
"Boom—boom—"
The explosions rang out one after another; mud, gravel, and broken branches flew everywhere, and screams mixed into the firelight and smoke.
In the blink of an eye, the bandits were dead or wounded, and the survivors were terrified, fleeing desperately along the mountain path.
He Yuzhu picked up a Submachine Gun and leaped out, pursuing them.
Gunshots echoed through the valley, and the fleeing figures fell one after another.
After chasing for three or four miles, there was no more movement ahead.
Only then did He Yuzhu turn back to slowly clear the battlefield.
After a count, twenty-five corpses lay on the ground, including Liu Laosan.
It seemed some had escaped in the chaos, most likely jumping into the reservoir; their fate was uncertain.
He Yuzhu gathered the scattered firearms into one place, hid them well in a deep ditch, and then brought Xie Zhuqing back to town.
Along the way, Xie Zhuqing kept begging for mercy, offering both money and beauty, but He Yuzhu remained unmoved.
Finally, she simply refused to walk, so He Yuzhu, having no other choice, knocked her unconscious again to get her back to town.
Seeing him escorting Xie Zhuqing, Tian Dan understood immediately and excitedly stepped forward: "Zhuzi, there is more than one secret agent in town, right? It's a good thing it was you who went this time; it would have been disastrous if it had been someone else!"
He Yuzhu nodded: "This woman is indeed cunning; she must have set up several strongholds in Reshui Town. She is also bold enough to dare to ambush us."
"Her men... were they all dealt with by you?" Tian Dan asked.
"Most of them were dealt with, though a few might have jumped into the water and escaped," He Yuzhu said in a flat tone.
Xie Zhuqing, who was being held to the side, suddenly cursed sharply: "Executioner! You will meet a miserable end!"
He Yuzhu laughed: "You stinking woman, you're quite unreasonable. You wanted to kill me, but you won't let me fight back? Be sensible and confess honestly, or you'll get the chili water."
Tian Dan said no more and immediately arranged for personnel to rush to the scene for investigation, while she turned and walked quickly to interrogate Xie Zhuqing.
Early the next morning, He Yuzhu was woken up.
Tian Dan's eyes were bloodshot, and she looked exhausted: "Xie Zhuqing has confessed the location of her lair, but I'm worried she left a backup plan. If anyone escaped back there, they have likely already gone to report the news. However, I still hope you can take some men to check it out."
"Alright, I'll set off immediately."
At noon, He Yuzhu and a dozen Police officers surrounded a large courtyard outside the small town, but it was empty inside; it seemed someone had indeed escaped last night.
He Yuzhu secretly activated his Scanning and discovered several hidden cellars in the courtyard, which were piled with tens of thousands of catties of grain that hadn't been moved yet. He didn't stand on ceremony, first using the car he brought to transport a portion away, then hiring a dozen local horse-drawn carts to haul away the rest of the grain.
In the government canteen, Li Xiangxiu was gesturing to the cook: "Lan Shifu, do you recognize these people?" She took out a few photos, "In this recent period, have you noticed anyone whose behavior has changed significantly? For example, someone who used to be very frugal but suddenly became generous?"
Lan Shifu glanced at them briefly and shook his head impatiently: "There are hundreds of people eating here; I'm just the one serving the food, how could I know everyone?"
Li Xiangxiu nodded and went to ask another cook.
After asking several in a row, she didn't get any useful information.
She had been investigating in the canteen for three days, and her subordinates were getting restless, feeling that their leader was being a bit obsessive.
The whole morning yielded nothing.
When lunch was served, Li Xiangxiu instructed her five subordinates: "Keep a close eye on these people; whatever they buy or eat, tell me everything."
The group nodded one after another.
In fact, these people were all colleagues who worked on the same floor as Secretary Liu.
On the other side, after He Yuzhu and Tian Dan finished handling the follow-up matters in town, Man Yatou's family had also packed everything up, loaded their luggage onto the cart, and were just preparing to set off.
Just then, an old woman with graying hair suddenly rushed out from the street corner, threw herself directly in front of the car, and began wailing while slapping the ground: "You murderers! My son was an honest man, what right do you have to kill him? What law did he break?"
Town Mayor Shao Lin hurried forward and sternly rebuked: "Liu Wangshi, your third son was an informant for the bandits; he deserved to die for his crimes!"
He Yuzhu quickly leaned toward Tian Dan's ear and gave her some low-voiced instructions.
Tian Dan's expression was complicated; she glared at He Yuzhu, but in the end, she still got out of the car, walked up to the old woman, and softened her tone to explain: "Old lady, please don't make false accusations. Both your second son and third son were in collusion with the bandits. Especially your third son—he was killed in the crossfire when we surrounded him while he was delivering messages for the bandits. This really cannot be blamed on us."
