Chapter 511: The Seventh Concubine's Gambit
The person on the bed sat up in an instant—a woman of about twenty-seven or twenty-eight, plump and full-figured. Although she saw someone collapsed by the bedside, she was not the least bit flustered, instead reaching behind her to pull a flashlight and a small Nambu Pistol from beside the pillow.
With a "click," she pressed the switch, and the beam of light shone straight onto the floor.
Yan Jiefang's face, twisted in pain, squinted under the harsh light.
"Little thief, you've got some nerve, actually stealing from me." The woman set the pistol aside, picked up a coat from the bed, and threw it over her pajamas.
Yan Jiefang trembled all over, unable to speak clearly: "Ma'am, spare my life... I was truly at my wit's end, that's why..."
This woman was none other than Zhou Li, known as the Seventh Concubine.
She ignored Yan Jiefang, gripped the pistol, and walked to the window to look out at the front courtyard, then circled around to check the back window before sitting back down on the edge of the bed and asking, "Tell me the truth, how many accomplices came in total?"
"There's one more, about my age. Our Siqiang was caught by the cops, and we wanted to scrape together some money to bail him out, which is why we dared to come to your place, Ma'am. This is our first time doing something like this, please spare us!"
"Don't give me that underworld talk, I've heard enough of it. I'm asking you, can you trick him into coming in?" Zhou Li raised an eyebrow.
"I can! Ma'am, please help me get this trap off first... it hurts, it hurts so much..." Yan Jiefang was sweating profusely from the pain, his body twitching uncontrollably.
Zhou Li sneered a few times, then said: "Stretch your foot over here, I'll open it for you. Don't try any tricks, or I'll kill you!"
"Ma'am, I beg you, it hurts too much!" Yan Jiefang hurriedly crawled to the side of the bed.
Zhou Li held the flashlight in her mouth, gripped both ends of the animal trap with her hands, and sank her waist and back—
"Click!"
The trap sprang open at the sound.
Yan Jiefang rolled on the bed in agony, but in his heart, he was calculating rapidly: I'll pretend to give Liu Guangtian a signal in a moment and take the chance to run.
How could Zhou Li not see through Yan Jiefang's little scheme?
She picked up the Nambu Pistol from the bed again, the muzzle coldly pressing against Yan Jiefang's temple: "Little thief, don't try any tricks on me today, or I'll kill you."
"I wouldn't dare, I wouldn't dare! I'll trick Liu Guangtian into coming in right now!" Yan Jiefang endured the pain, limped to the doorway, took out a small flashlight, and flashed it at the tree outside a few times.
Liu Guangtian, thinking they had succeeded, pushed the door open and walked in excitedly.
Little did he know, the moment he stepped into the room, an arm wrapped around the back of his neck, locking his throat tightly, while his back was pressed against two soft mounds.
A cold gun barrel was immediately pressed against his temple.
"Little brat, you've got some real guts, daring to steal from me?" Zhou Li's slightly raspy voice sounded in his ear.
Liu Guangtian finally realized what was happening and immediately cursed: "Yan Jiefang, you damn bastard, why did you trick me into coming in?"
Yan Jiefang shrank his neck and didn't say a word.
Zhou Li chuckled and asked, "Two little thieves today, do you want to die, or do you want to live?"
"I want to live! I want to live! Ma'am, please let me go!" Yan Jiefang shouted, scrambling to answer.
Liu Guangtian, however, stiffened his neck: "We didn't steal anything, what can you do to us?"
"Heh." Zhou Li tightened her grip, "Tired of living, are you? I'll grant your wish."
Liu Guangtian felt the pressure on his neck become terrifyingly strong, as if his neck would be snapped in the next second, and he immediately went soft: "Big sister, big sister, I want to live, I truly want to live."
Zhou Li let him go and sneered a few times, her tone softening slightly but remaining cold: "If you want to live, then agree to three conditions with me. First, write down what you stole tonight and sign it with your fingerprint; second, from now on, if I have tasks, you must do them for me; third, not a single word of tonight's events is to be spoken, or I will kill your entire family."
"Ma'am, what exactly do you do?" Yan Jiefang asked in a low voice.
"Don't talk nonsense with me, just tell me if you agree or not. If you don't, I'll kill you both and throw you in the suburbs to feed the wild dogs!" Zhou Li barked.
"I agree!" Yan Jiefang hurriedly replied.
Liu Guangtian hesitated for a long time before reluctantly agreeing: "Things have come to this, I have no other choice, I agree to your terms."
Only then did Zhou Li completely let go, emphasizing once more: "Don't tell anyone about tonight!"
The two nodded repeatedly.
She caught sight of Yan Jiefang still grimacing in pain and beckoned to him: "Come here, I'll put some medicine on you."
Yan Jiefang was stunned.
Zhou Li smiled half-heartedly: "What are you looking at? We're on the same side now. I've always been pretty good to kids."
She skillfully bandaged Yan Jiefang, forced both of them to write down the details of the theft and sign their names, and finally gave each of them a Small Yellow Fish before letting them go.
As soon as the two left the alley, Liu Guangtian violently threw Yan Jiefang to the ground and rained punches down on him: "You bastard! How could you betray me?"
"Liu Guangtian, damn you, she had a gun, what was I supposed to do!" Yan Jiefang shouted.
"Coward! You're a complete and utter coward! I must have had eight lifetimes of bad luck to team up with you!" Liu Guangtian, tired from hitting him, sat on the ground panting heavily.
Yan Jiefang lay on the ground without getting up and asked in a muffled voice: "Tomorrow... what do we tell Xu Damao?"
"How the hell would I know!" Liu Guangtian replied irritably.
Yan Jiefang struggled to sit up and lowered his voice: "I think that woman... is like a secret agent. Do you think if we work for her and get caught, we'll get a bullet?"
Liu Guangtian only just realized the implication and muttered: "A secret agent? If she's a secret agent, why didn't she just kill us?"
Yan Jiefang shook his head: "How would I know?"
Liu Guangtian sighed: "If it really comes to that, we'll go report it to the police. Anyway, we just stole things, at most we'll get a few years, but if we get involved with secret agents, that's big trouble. I'm actually starting to miss He Yuzhu; if he were here, he might be able to handle this woman!"
"But if she gets caught, won't we be exposed too?" Yan Jiefang looked miserable.
"Forget it! Let's just take the money and live it up first!" Liu Guangtian kicked the dirt under his feet and dragged Yan Jiefang out of the alley.
Guangzhou Huangpu Port, Yu Ren Shipyard Company warehouse wharf.
When He Yuzhu drove in, the scene before his eyes had already taken on a new look—the weeds had been cleared away, the walls had been rebuilt, and the warehouse glass and large iron gates had been repaired neatly.
He parked the car steadily, saw an old master in his fifties sitting in the gatehouse, and got out to walk over: "Master, give me the keys, you go home and rest for three days, and come back to work after three days."
The old master was stunned and hurriedly stood up: "Comrade, I'm the one watching the warehouse. If I leave, who will guard it? I can't leave my post."
He Yuzhu smiled: "I'm the person in charge here. If you don't follow the arrangements, then this job will have to be given to someone else."
The old man finally realized and nodded hurriedly: "You're the one in charge, I'll listen to you. So I'm really going home? I'll report for duty on time in three days."
"Fine. The cargo we're transporting is classified, don't look and don't ask." He Yuzhu added.
The old master waved his hand and walked away, hunched over.
He Yuzhu took the keys and opened the warehouses one by one—the interiors were cleaned and organized, and a faint scent of cement still drifted in the air.
He inspected the surroundings, then with a thought, he placed the large quantity of supplies transported back from Ryukyu into them one by one.
Just as he finished, the two cargo ships that Zhao Ying had sent from Hong Kong in the afternoon also arrived, loaded with mechanical equipment purchased from overseas.
He Yuzhu received the cargo and immediately made a phone call to Secretary Liu.
