Chapter 92: Escape from the Tiger's Mouth
After Wang Jiazhi and He Yuzhu crawled out from the secret passage, they did not leave immediately, but instead hid at a street corner, holding their breath and watching the movements of that building.
Not long after, two men in black ran out in a panic, jumped into a car, and sped away.
"We must leave Nanjing as soon as possible; it is no longer safe here," Wang Jiazhi said in a low voice.
He Yuzhu shoved the small wooden box filled with silver dollars into her hands. "Our cooperation this time, while not seamless, has basically achieved our respective goals. Let us part ways here! If fate allows, we shall meet again in the world of martial arts."
Wang Jiazhi's hand trembled slightly as she took the box, a flicker of emotion crossing her eyes.
She bit her lip, ultimately saying nothing, then turned and merged into the flow of people on the street, disappearing from sight.
He Yuzhu returned to the inn where he was staying and quickly packed his luggage, planning to catch the afternoon train to Greater Shanghai.
His heart leaped with anticipation: the bustling city, nightclubs, dancers twirling under neon lights... The adult soul hidden inside this child's body could not help but feel a bit restless and expectant. With light steps, he headed straight for the train station.
But as soon as he arrived at the station, his heart sank.
The station was filled with military police; martial law had already been declared.
Passengers stood in long lines, undergoing document checks one by one.
He Yuzhu cursed inwardly: Could it be that the matter of Yi Xiansheng had been exposed? How could they have acted so quickly?
Just then, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure—the old woman from Yi Xiansheng's house.
It was over; he had only knocked her unconscious at the time and hadn't put her into his space, leaving behind such a huge oversight!
As it turned out, while he and Wang Jiazhi were searching for valuables, this woman had already slipped out to report them. Those who had rung the doorbell were not guests at all, but people coming to arrest them!
Fortunately, there was a secret passage, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable.
He Yuzhu was just about to slip away when he saw Wang Jiazhi walking into the station.
Worse still, she was not wearing any makeup to disguise herself. She was recognized by the old woman immediately, who shrieked, "It's her! It's this woman who killed Yi Xiansheng!"
The military police swarmed forward at once.
Wang Jiazhi struggled a few times before being subdued, a large man twisting her arms behind her back.
This group of men shouted and shoved her, heading toward the parking lot.
He Yuzhu followed without hesitation.
Seeing them reach a secluded spot in the parking lot, he flicked his wrists, and two Flying Knives tore through the air!
"Puff! Puff!"
Two military police officers fell to the ground in response.
The other two scrambled to draw their guns, but He Yuzhu had already closed in like a ghost.
A cold light flashed from his Dagger, and in an instant, two more corpses were added to the ground.
"Get in the car!" He pulled the car door open and shoved the stunned Wang Jiazhi into the Jeep.
He Yuzhu floored the accelerator, and the Jeep sped through the streets like a wild Mustang, with pedestrians and vehicles scrambling to get out of the way in terror.
As the car rushed to the city gate checkpoint, he slammed on the brakes and asked, "Do you know how to drive?"
"I've learned, but I'm rusty."
He Yuzhu shook his head and quickly pulled two Box Cannons from his waist, handing one to her. "Listen well, you are responsible for suppressing those two Machine Gunners! Are you confident?"
"Maybe... I suppose so," Wang Jiazhi said, her tone hesitant.
"Whether you hit them or not, you must keep firing, don't stop until the magazine is empty!"
After saying this, he drove and accelerated forward.
"Fire! Empty the magazine!" He Yuzhu shouted.
Wang Jiazhi fired as instructed; the gunfire was intense, and although she didn't kill the enemy, she successfully provided suppression.
She emptied her magazine in one go, her fingers still reflexively pulling the empty trigger due to nervousness.
Seeing that the enemy was out of ammunition, the Machine Gunner immediately operated the Machine Gun and turned the muzzle.
Just a split second before he pulled the trigger, He Yuzhu's car had closed in on him; he raised his hand and fired two precise shots, blowing the man's head off!
He fired several more shots, pinning the guards behind the sandbags so they dared not show their heads.
"Get down!"
Seeing someone in the rearview mirror raise a gun and fire at the Jeep, He Yuzhu jerked the steering wheel.
Wang Jiazhi dropped onto the seat as instructed.
A bullet whistled past; He Yuzhu's shoulder was hit, leaving a bloody hole, and he let out a muffled groan as warm blood quickly soaked his cotton-padded jacket.
He gritted his teeth and floored the accelerator.
The Jeep burst through the encirclement, trailing black smoke, and disappeared into the depths of the mist.
Gunfire erupted behind the car, but they could no longer be caught.
In a grocery store inside Dian'anmen, Lao Zhou held the telegram transcript he had just finished decoding, fine beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead.
He slammed the telegram onto the table and cursed angrily, "This is a damn frame-up! A blatant smear! Those people from the Military Statistics Bureau will stop at nothing to sabotage the ceasefire agreement..."
Shen Wenqing, standing to the side, took the telegram to look it over carefully and mused, "This method doesn't look like an ordinary frame-up; the cost is too high."
"Then who would blow up the Military Statistics Bureau Beiping Station at such a critical moment?" Lao Zhou asked, puzzled.
"This person seems reckless, but it was actually carefully planned. The number of people who could accomplish this is few and far between! I think it's Liu Xiaohua," Shen Wenqing said.
"If it is him, why does he hate the people from the Military Statistics Bureau so much?" Lao Zhou asked.
"Lao Zhou, the answer is in what you just said; Liu Xiaohua must be the orphan of a martyr!"
Lao Zhou looked up abruptly: "Wenqing! You must go find Zhuzi immediately; he has great supernatural powers, perhaps he can find Liu Xiaohua."
Shen Wenqing did not dare to delay and hurried to Shen Guizhi's residence, but he arrived to find it empty.
He returned disappointed and shook his head at Lao Zhou: "My sister said that Zhuzi went to help someone else escort a batch of urgent goods and has been gone for some days."
In the Po Miao, Wang Jiazhi was dressing He Yuzhu's wound.
Although it was only a through-and-through wound, he had lost quite a bit of blood.
He Yuzhu's face was pale, his fingers trembling slightly; he took a Penicillin from his schoolbag and handed it over: "Do you know how to give an injection?"
"I do. How do you have this?"
"I am a killer," He Yuzhu said in a cold tone.
Wang Jiazhi finished injecting him, handed the syringe back, and added some firewood to the fire, "Why did you risk your life to save me?"
He Yuzhu grinned: "My little brother likes you."
"So the truth is out, isn't it? You are from the Liu Jia; you must be talking about that little fatty, Liu San, right! I know he often climbs trees to peek at me," Wang Jiazhi said in a flat tone.
"Didn't you say before that he was peeking to gather intelligence? Why have you changed your mind?"
"Because I think that with your skills, there is no need at all to use such methods."
"He really likes you! He insists on marrying no one but you!"
Wang Jiazhi shook her head: "He is just a naughty child!"
"Can you cook? I'm a bit hungry."
"But we have nothing to cook."
"Bring me that large backpack of mine."
Wang Jiazhi lifted the backpack and immediately felt it was incredibly heavy: "What is inside? Why is it so heavy?"
He Yuzhu had already transferred many supplies from his space into it, so of course it would be heavy.
He pulled out, one after another, a small bag of white rice, a Japan military mess tin, a canteen, canned food, and a small packet of seasoning.
Wang Jiazhi stared in a daze: "Why would you carry these things?"
"I am a killer; if I don't carry these while fleeing for my life, am I supposed to wait for death?"
Wang Jiazhi worked nimbly, and before long, she handed the cooked meat porridge to He Yuzhu.
He Yuzhu took out another mess tin and shared half with her.
With the hot porridge in their stomachs, both of them felt much warmer.
Wang Jiazhi spoke up: "Where are we going next?"
"I originally wanted to go to Shanghai to find a dance hostess to dance with... but now that I'm injured, I can't go, so I can only go home first. Do you want to come with me?" He Yuzhu rambled on.
Wang Jiazhi pondered for a moment and said: "I will follow you for now; once your injury is healed, I will make my plans."
"Your words actually make me quite touched!" He Yuzhu teased.
Just then, the door of the Po Miao was suddenly blown open by the wind.
Dozens of green, glowing eyes appeared outside the door, staring fixedly at them in the darkness.
Wang Jiazhi was so scared she grabbed He Yuzhu's arm, causing him to cry out in pain: "Big sister! I have an injury on my shoulder!"
She hurriedly let go: "I'm sorry..."
