Chapter 968: Seizing the Ship at the Pier
As He Yuzhu and his group just reached the vicinity of the pier, a sense of unease rose in all of their hearts simultaneously.
A massive Supply Ship was docked at the pier, looking exceptionally conspicuous in front of this small wharf.
He Yuzhu was all too familiar with this type of Warship; during the years of the War of Resistance, he had personally blown up countless Supply Ships of the same model.
This was an old-fashioned LST landing ship left over from World War II, with a hull age of at least forty or fifty years. More than thirty M Military soldiers stood on the deck, operating a lift to transfer crates of supplies onto trucks.
Captain Huai Te shouted at the top of his lungs: "Everyone speed it up! We only have one hour for loading and unloading; once finished, we must immediately rush to the next island to offload!"
The soldiers stationed on the island were already anxious and uneasy. In the distance, the airport erupted with successive loud explosions, gunfire rang out one after another, and towering flames billowed with thick smoke.
The logistics squad and a few truck drivers were responsible for receiving the cargo today, and no one knew exactly what had happened.
They had only seen with their own eyes a civilian airliner make an emergency landing at the military airport, followed immediately by two M Military fighter jets diving down... The airport burst into flames, and in the blink of an eye, those two fighter jets also lost control and crashed into the sea.
The bizarre scene left everyone at the pier panic-stricken, and everyone secretly speculated whether war had already broken out.
"Hurry up! Everyone speed it the hell up!" Huai Te was full of irritation, wanting only to finish unloading and get away immediately.
Recently, military bases across the United States had been attacked and destroyed one after another, leaving the military in a state of panic with rumors flying everywhere. Within the M Military, a conjecture was spreading wildly: that the mysterious organization "Shadow" from Babylon was going to destroy M Country's military strongholds everywhere.
Huai Te was only six months away from retirement; he had long since planned to travel the world after retiring and absolutely did not want to meet with any misfortune during this final term.
He barked another stern reprimand: "The trucks already loaded with supplies must leave immediately; don't block the pier and get in the way!"
Sam, the squad leader of the stationed infantry squad, had been trying to contact the Platoon Leader who went to the airport to investigate, but the Walkie-talkie never received a response.
The longer he waited, the more anxious he became; his best brother, Wayne, was also in the reconnaissance team.
Sam repeatedly pressed the button on the Walkie-talkie, but there was only the buzzing sound of static in the earpiece, and no one replied.
A layer of cold sweat seeped out on his back. He picked up a small Military Binoculars and looked toward the outer side of the pier, where he was shocked to see four strange trucks covered with canvas parked at the edge of the port.
"Something's wrong," Sam said in a low voice.
At the same time, He Yuzhu gathered everyone behind the windbreak of the trucks.
Bureau Chief Zhang, Captain Fu, and Captain Sun crouched in a circle to discuss the subsequent actions.
"I've counted with the Telescope," Bureau Chief Zhang said, "there are over thirty people on the deck, and who knows how many garrison troops are hiding in the ship's hold. Counting you, we only have eight people who can actually fight with guns. Factory Director He, give us a straight answer, how should this battle be fought?"
He Yuzhu grinned, revealing two rows of white teeth: "Bureau Chief Zhang, encountering this Supply Ship is both a difficulty and an opportunity; if we seize this ship, we can sail it directly back to our country. My method is simple and brutal: we must be fast and launch a sneak attack while they are unprepared."
Bureau Chief Zhang frowned deeply: "But once we open fire and draw reinforcements... what should we do if our retreat is cut off?"
"We already took out eighteen garrison troops in the previous battle, and most of the remaining people in the camp are administrative staff. The ones loading and unloading at the pier are logistics soldiers, not frontline combat elites; we are fully capable of fighting them," He Yuzhu said to boost morale.
Captain Fu interjected as a reminder: "Logistics are still active-duty soldiers after all. The explosions at the airport made a huge noise; they are all like frightened birds now. As soon as our vehicles approach, they are very likely to open fire first."
"Then we won't give them the chance to fire first," He Yuzhu said. "When we cleared the battlefield earlier, we captured eight sets of blood-stained M Military uniforms. If we put on the uniforms, we can drive up to the pier in broad daylight."
Bureau Chief Zhang's eyes lit up suddenly, and he slapped his knee: "Factory Director He, your brain turns too fast; why didn't I think of that!"
"No one will expect that we would happen to run into this supply transport ship," He Yuzhu stood up and took eight sets of blood-stained military uniforms from the truck bed. "Hurry up, three minutes to finish changing."
The eight of them immediately ducked into the canvas truck bed; the sound of zippers rubbing, the clinking of belt buckles, and suppressed breathing all mixed together.
Captain Sun stood at the back of the truck and spoke: "Factory Director He, I'll join the fight too; one more person means one more bit of combat power."
He Yuzhu turned back and stared seriously into his eyes: "Captain Sun, you are our most critical trump card. If we capture an aircraft, you are the only one who can fly it and lead us to escape. I would rather have one less combatant than lose you as our retreat route."
Captain Sun was stunned for two seconds, then nodded heavily: "Alright. Xiao Li and I will stay behind to guard the accompanying personnel; if anyone attacks, we will hold the first line of defense."
"Many thanks," He Yuzhu replied with a smile.
Just as everyone was changing, a sharp roar of an engine suddenly came from the side and rear.
He Yuzhu lifted a corner of the canvas to look, and a tall white man was speeding over on a motorcycle.
"Damn, someone actually delivered themselves to our doorstep," He Yuzhu said in a low voice.
The motorcycle braked hard and stopped beside the first truck. Sam took off his goggles and shouted: "Hey! Which unit are you from?"
The second half of the sentence got stuck in his throat.
The canvas was pulled back, and an Asian man wearing their own military uniform was smiling at him.
The smile looked warm, but alarm bells rang instantly in the depths of Sam's heart; he had never seen this person before. His right hand reflexively reached for the holster at his waist, and when his fingertips were only two inches from the grip, a silver light cut through the twilight.
The Flying Knife pierced his throat, leaving only the hilt exposed, and fresh blood gushed out along the blade, accompanied by a hissing sound of leaking air.
Sam's fingers barely managed to grasp the gun handle, his strength was suddenly drained, and he and the motorcycle, which was still idling, tipped over and fell into the mud pit.
He Yuzhu stepped forward, took off Sam's helmet and put it on his own head, pulled down the goggles, and turned to shout at the truck bed: "Bureau Chief Zhang! Keep the vehicles close to me! Take advantage of them being completely off guard and launch a point-blank surprise attack!"
Bureau Chief Zhang hurriedly tried to stop him: "Factory Director He, it's too risky! Dozens of eyes on the pier deck are watching; it's very easy to expose our identities!"
"Don't worry, everyone will subconsciously think it's Sam returning; no one will look closely at the face. You just need to follow behind the truck and provide cover."
As the words fell, He Yuzhu stepped on the clutch, the motorcycle's rear wheel kicked up a sky full of mud and water, and it charged straight toward the pier like a cannonball.
On the deck of the landing ship, the bearded Captain Huai Te was standing with his hands on his hips, cursing angrily. He caught a glimpse of the reckless motorcycle and cursed casually: "Is that kid Sam in such a rush to reincarnate? Driving like a maniac!"
The second half of the curse was stuck firmly in his throat.
The motorcycle did not slow down at all, charging up the deck along the boarding ramp, the tires screeching harshly against the steel plate.
Before the bike had even stopped, He Yuzhu flipped off, and with both hands, he simultaneously pulled two Glock 18 Pistols from his space, the safeties already disengaged.
The first gunshot exploded, and the head of a guard standing watch with a gun on the deck instantly burst into a spray of blood.
The second shot, the third shot... the sound of gunfire merged into one, sweeping across the entire deck.
All the M Military guards on the deck who were armed and on watch were precisely shot in the head and knocked down.
The workers loading and unloading supplies on the scene were all unarmed, so He Yuzhu did not move against them for the time being.
After clearing the guards on the deck, he immediately rushed into the interior of the ship; several surviving guards had just panicked and fled into the cargo hold to hide.
At this moment, the roar of the trucks approached the pier, and Bureau Chief Zhang and his group jumped off the truck bed with guns in hand, shooting one by one at the M Military soldiers who were fleeing for cover and didn't have time to lie down.
Single shots and bursts of gunfire crisscrossed, Bullet Shells clattered against the steel deck, and the pier instantly fell into a chaotic battle.
He Yuzhu kicked open the cabin door, only to see a few backs darting into the depths of the ship's cabin.
Inside the cabin corridor, four M Military soldiers had already raised their guns and aimed at the cabin entrance.
"Bang, bang, bang!" Several bullets grazed He Yuzhu's ear and struck the steel plate behind him, sparking fire.
He Yuzhu rolled to the side to evade, simultaneously leveling both pistols and decisively pulling the triggers at the silhouette at the end of the corridor.
