Chapter 992: Chaos in Somalia
He Yuzhu turned the car audio to the maximum, and the fierce rhythm of hip-hop music exploded, making one's blood boil the moment it was heard.
He did this on purpose, with the goal of luring these black men to take the initiative and surround him. He knew clearly that this group of people could not resist the temptation of such music at all.
Sure enough, the mercenaries who were originally busy working all stopped what they were doing, their gazes locked straight onto the off-road vehicle, and like hyenas that had smelled the scent of blood, they surrounded the car step by step.
A black man with a skull tattooed on his arm rushed forward first, clutching a shiny AK47 tightly in his hand, and roared with a raspy voice: "You son-of-a-bitch vampire! This is our territory! Hand over the car for our boss to ride in!"
"Abudi! Stop him!" a man who looked like an officer in the back shouted hurriedly.
Before the words had even faded, over a dozen black men dropped their work in unison; some carried rifles, others held shovels, and they all surged forward at once, completely blocking the entire road.
He Yuzhu narrowed his eyes, staring quietly at the people gathering more and more densely outside the window, and a cold sneer slowly curled at the corner of his mouth. The timing was just about right.
He pressed the car window down, flicked his wrist slightly, and a Submachine Gun appeared out of thin air in his hand.
"Rat-tat-tat-tat—"
Scorching tongues of fire sprayed out from the muzzle.
The group of people blocking the road didn't even have time to let out a groan before they fell to the ground in swathes. Dust and gunpowder smoke mixed together, choking people so they couldn't even open their eyes.
In just a few short seconds, almost everyone surrounding the front of the car had stopped moving.
However, those hiding in the shade in the distance reacted extremely quickly; bullets immediately flew in from corners in all directions, smashing fiercely against the car body with a "clang, clang, clang," sparking little flames.
This off-road vehicle was a military Bulletproof Car model that He Yuzhu had seized from an M Country military base; the steel plates were as thick as a Tank, and the bullets hitting it sounded like hail hitting a tin roof, clinking and clanking, leaving only shallow dents on the surface of the vehicle body.
He Yuzhu huddled inside the car, aiming calmly through the shooting port reserved in the car door, picking off the enemies hiding in wall corners and behind trash cans one by one.
Every time the muzzle flashed, another person on the opposite side fell.
In the end, only two who were quick on their feet remained, having already bolted seven or eight hundred meters away.
Somalia was naturally known for producing long-distance running talents, and the two men's running speed was indeed astonishing.
But He Yuzhu did not hesitate in the slightest; he pushed open the car door and took off in pursuit.
Fifteen minutes later, those two had run until their lungs felt like they were about to explode, and they collapsed into a dirt ditch by the side of the road.
Their skin was pitch black, nearly blending in with the color of the silt in the ditch; without careful observation, it was hard to notice them at all.
He Yuzhu walked over and directly collected the two of them into his Personal Space.
After clearing this battlefield, he turned the car around and headed back the way he came to find the delegation.
Bureau Chief Zhang was leaning against a tree smoking, and when he saw He Yuzhu returning in this black Bulletproof Car that was as sturdy as a Tank, he was so shocked on the spot that his mouth hung wide open.
He hurried over, looked up and down at the dense bullet holes on the car body, and couldn't help but marvel: "In less than half an hour, not only did you take care of the ambushers, but you also brought back such a tough piece of hardware?"
He Yuzhu casually brushed it off: "This bunch of guys was originally busy disposing of bodies, so I made a return strike and caught them red-handed. I mowed down a few, and the rest were so scared out of their wits that they threw their guns and only cared about running for their lives. I just happened to drive this Bulletproof Car back. It can serve as a lead vehicle in the future."
Bureau Chief Zhang looked at his wristwatch and urged hurriedly: "Let's hurry to the station; there are still many people waiting to meet with us there!"
The bus set off again.
The entire journey to the hotel was a scene of devastation. Everywhere along the road, one could see gaunt, barefoot children running after the motorcade, their dark, bright eyes peering into the car windows, their mouths constantly muttering unclear words; on both sides of the road sat famine victims, sallow and emaciated, some holding empty porcelain bowls in their arms, others leaning against half-collapsed walls, their strength nearly exhausted even to lift their heads.
From time to time, people would suddenly rush into the middle of the road, trying to stop the cars to beg for food, and the driver could only slam the steering wheel to avoid them, causing everyone in the car to be tossed about.
The short journey of just over twenty kilometers took nearly two hours of swaying and bumping.
By the time the group arrived at the hotel, it was already pitch black.
The hotel was an old six-story building, standing abruptly among stretches of broken walls and ruins, like an isolated island in a vast sea of wreckage.
A circle of coconut trees was actually planted around the building, their broad leaves rustling in the night wind, barely adding a touch of vitality to the ruins.
At the entrance of the hotel, half-man-high sandbags were piled up, and several burly men armed with live ammunition were lying in ambush behind them, their eyes fixed unblinkingly on the dark street outside, the barrels of their guns gleaming with a bone-chilling cold light under the cold moonlight.
A middle-aged man wearing glasses and with a slightly plump figure—Lao Yu—saw the delegation's vehicles approaching and immediately rushed out from behind the cover, clutching the car door and panting heavily, asking in a panic: "Deputy Minister Sun, was the journey... was the journey smooth?"
Deputy Minister Sun's face darkened, and he waved his hand: "Smooth? We were ambushed halfway! If it weren't for our strong security, the whole carload of people would have been finished on the road today."
Lao Yu raised his hand to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead and said in a low voice: "We just received news that those people from M Country secretly spent money to bribe over a hundred armed personnel, specifically targeting our delegation. I didn't dare to slack off for a moment and hired over a hundred retired veterans at high pay to act as security; their marksmanship is all reliable. Don't worry, Deputy Minister Sun, multiple layers of sentries have been set up around the hotel, so there won't be any major trouble."
He Yuzhu stood to the side, listening to these words without making a sound, his gaze sweeping over the surrounding environment unobtrusively.
Outside the hotel perimeter wall, there were indeed many sturdy black men standing scattered about, their posture sharp; one look and it was clear they were veterans who had been on the battlefield, fully equipped with long and short firearms, matching exactly what Lao Yu had described as security personnel.
But He Yuzhu still couldn't set his mind at ease; he quietly activated his Scanning Function and swept it toward the depths of the streets outside the hotel.
His brow instantly furrowed tightly. There were figures hiding on the roofs of the buildings opposite, and the passersby wandering back and forth on the street had bulging waistlines, clearly indicating they were hiding weapons and were definitely not good people.
Although there were over a hundred security guards stationed openly who could temporarily protect the basic safety of the delegation, he had to clear out the petty villains lurking on the periphery as soon as possible.
He returned to his assigned room alone, closed the door, and began to disguise himself. First, he smeared a thick layer of black greasepaint on his face, then put on a wide, local-style gray robe and pulled the hood down. Looking left and right in the mirror, the person in the mirror was now a tall, thin local black man, with even his facial contours blurred.
He whistled with satisfaction, pushed the door open, and slipped out of the hotel quietly.
Hardly one in ten streetlights was intact; most had long been smashed by people or had been without power for a long time.
The street was pitch dark, save for a dim light glowing in a distant vacant lot in the ruins, where a few barefoot children were playing with a deflated, broken soccer ball; the ball rolled over the broken bricks covering the ground and finally stopped at the feet of a grilled fish vendor.
The vendor's tin grill was billowing choking black smoke, and the entire street was filled with the pungent smell of charcoal mixed with rotting garbage; after smelling it for a long time, one felt their stomach churning.
This city was already riddled with holes, yet it was not the least bit quiet in the dead of night.
Dark figures moved back and forth in the dim alleys, and several women in flashy clothes stood at the corners, constantly casting flirtatious glances at the men passing by.
He Yuzhu kept his head down the whole time, walking with hurried steps, pretending to be a local rushing to an appointment. His eyes never stopped scanning every dark corner, half-open door and window, and any pillar that could hide a person.
Not long after, he quietly subdued the sniper who had been lying in ambush on the roof.
He Yuzhu walked several miles further out alone, found an abandoned empty house with most of its roof collapsed, released the black sniper from his space, and interrogated him on the spot.
The interrogation methods were not exactly gentle; after being tossed about a few times, the black man finally couldn't withstand the torture and spilled all the inside information.
After hearing the confession, He Yuzhu's mouth curled into a cold arc, and he spoke in a low voice: "James, you just wait for me."
