Chapter 195: The Twins' Inherited Awakening
Zhao Jianguo stared at the Terminal's final line of prompt, his finger still on the Confirm button. The Screen dimmed, the anti‑magnetic bag wrapped around the device pressed to his chest. He turned his head toward the room, Shuang Baotai were sitting on the bedside, clutching the pair of Metal Sheet‑modified bracelets, eyes unblinking.
"Dad." the younger son lifted his head, "It's ringing."
Zhao Jianguo walked over and crouched, hearing a faint hum emanating from the bracelet. The two Metal Sheets warmed slightly, as if awakened by something. He recalled the message that popped up just before the system cut off — 【Authentication Request: Complete Bloodline Chain】. This thing had been waiting for this moment.
"Put them on." he said.
The older child hesitated briefly, then extended his hand. Zhao Jianguo fastened the straps for them, and as soon as he let go, the Metal Sheets suddenly lit up with a Light Pattern that crawled up from the wrist to the arm. Both children shivered simultaneously, their gazes instantly unfocused.
"What's wrong?" Zhao Jianguo grabbed their shoulders in one hand.
"I… saw a well." the older child's voice trembled, "Someone buried something in it, wearing a military uniform…"
"And there was a person standing beside it taking photos." the younger son continued, "He held a watch in his hand and walked unusually slowly."
Zhao Jianguo's heart tightened. This was a scene from 1978, a memory replay of the day the old well was sealed. They were experiencing that historical fragment.
"Don't be afraid." he held the two children's hands, "Listen to me. You are now in the Siheyuan, I am your dad. Those events have already passed."
But the children's breathing grew more rapid, fine sweat beaded on their foreheads. The bracelet's glow intensified, nearly pulling them in. Zhao Jianguo knew he couldn't delay, so he immediately retrieved a recording module from the Storage Ring and pressed the play button.
Chen Jianguo's voice sounded slowly, "Someone left too early, someone arrived just in time. Your existence is not to repeat the past, but to rewrite it."
This was a voice file he had left while cataloguing a senior's relics, originally just for archiving, but unexpectedly became a lifesaver today. The two children's bodies shivered, and the chaos in their eyes slightly receded.
At that moment, Footsteps came from outside the Courtyard. Jia Dongxu burst in holding a modified signal box, with Chen Xiao Jian following behind. Both had sweat on their faces, clearly having rushed.
"Did something go wrong over there?" Jia Dongxu placed the box on the table, opened its casing, "I just detected an abnormal energy flow in the Central Courtyard, pointing at those two kids."
"They're awakening." Zhao Jianguo said without turning, "but they can't control the memory backlash."
"Then give them some real‑world anchor points." Jia Dongxu plugged in a cable, activated the amplifier, "I'll pour all the teaching data from these years into it, so they can distinguish what's real and what's illusion."
Chen Xiao Jian stepped forward as well, pulling an old pocket watch from his coat. "This is my dad's. Last time you mentioned the Metal Sheet frequency recognition, I wanted to see if it could stabilize the fluctuation."
Zhao Jianguo glanced at him and nodded. Chen Xiao Jian pressed the watch against the side of the bracelet, gently winding the mainspring. Click! Three signal streams connected synchronously. The air in the room quivered lightly, as if invisible ripples were spreading.
Shuang Baotai's bodies swayed, then they slowly sat up straight. They opened their eyes, a flash of golden light flickering in their pupils.
"Dad," the older child spoke, "We know now."
"Know what?"
"We know who you are, and we also know what we must do," the younger son stood up, raised his hand to touch the still‑glowing bracelet, "This isn't a toy; it's a key."
Zhao Jianguo said nothing, just watching them.
The two children exchanged a glance, leapt off the bed together, stumbling toward the center of the Courtyard. They raised their wrists; the Metal Sheets elongated and reshaped in the night, turning into two short‑sword‑like objects, their blades flowing with a pale cyan light.
"We are Time‑Space Guardians!" the two shouted in unison.
The voice was not loud, yet it seemed to pierce something, causing the air of the entire Siheyuan to tremble. The old roof tiles quivered gently, and the vines in the corner moved without wind.
Zhao Jianguo stood at the doorway, suddenly feeling a slight sourness in his nose.
He didn't move, nor speak, just watched his children straighten their backs for the first time, facing the space they were destined to guard.
The Terminal inside the house suddenly lit up. Without a network connection or external power, it powered up on its own. The Screen displayed a line of golden text: 【Second‑generation Transmigrator, Awakening Complete. Identity Confirmed: Time‑Space Guardian. Permission Level: LV. 2 (Growing)】.
Before Zhao Jianguo could react, another prompt popped up: 【Unauthorized access detected, source unknown. Attack type: Remote hijack】.
"Again?" Jia Dongxu rushed to the table, "These people really aren't giving up."
"This time the signals are coming from three directions," Chen Xiao Jian stared at the Screen, "trying to seize Permission while they're just awakening."
"Can you block it?"
Chen Xiao Jian instantly opened the back of the pocket watch, pulled out a thin copper wire and connected it to the decoder. "The frequency my dad left has a hidden channel, specifically to thwart this kind of operation. I'll try reverse tracing."
His fingers hammered the keyboard rapidly, the Data Stream on the Screen rolling wildly. After a few seconds, three red connections were cut one by one. When the last IP vanished, the system emitted a crisp alert tone.
【Intrusion terminated. Security level restored.】
"Done?" Jia Dongxu asked.
"For now," Chen Xiao Jian wiped sweat, "they'll come again, but at least we can proceed safely for the next step."
Zhao Jianguo walked into the Courtyard, watching Shuang Baotai still holding the two swords. Their arms were already trembling a bit, but none let go.
"We can put them away now," he said.
"No," the older child shook his head, "it's still ringing."
Zhao Jianguo approached and listened; indeed a low‑frequency vibration came from the blade. He reached out and touched the sword edge, and a picture flashed in his mind — a wooden plaque hanging under the eaves, bearing a few characters.
He looked up.
At some point, a new plaque had already been hung there. The paint was fresh, reflecting the moonlight, clearly showing five large characters: Transmigrator Education Base.
He remembered there hadn't been this during the day.
"Who hung it?" he asked.
Jia Dongxu and Chen Xiao Jian both shook their heads. No one had noticed who did it.
"It was us," the twins said in unison, "Someone taught us to draw it in a dream last night, and it appeared this morning."
Zhao Jianguo stared at the plaque, and his heart suddenly steadied. He knew some things no longer needed his constant bearing.
He returned to the house, reconnected the Terminal to the backup power. As soon as the interface opened, the final line of prompt popped up: 【Establish Transmigrator Civilization Archive, Mission Initiated】.
He clicked Confirm.
In the distant sky, a faint light streaked across the night, like a meteor yet not. The light paused at a height for a moment, then split into two streams, one heading south, the other north, finally vanishing at the edge of sight.
In the Courtyard, Shuang Baotai finally lowered their arms. They turned and ran back, each clutching one of Zhao Jianguo's legs.
"Dad," the older child looked up, "From now on we can protect you too."
Zhao Jianguo bent down and lifted them. The two small bodies pressed against his chest, their warm breaths hitting his neck.
He said nothing, only held them tighter.
The plaque on the roof swayed gently in the wind; the wood paint hadn't dried, and a tiny drop of dark liquid fell, landing on the stone steps before the threshold, slowly spreading.
