Chapter 265

~8 min read 1,586 words

Zhao Chen's finger was still sliding on the tablet, the City Disabled Persons' Federation's task request page hadn't been closed. She was about to open the details when Zhao Yang already pulled up the design drawings.

"They want a wheelchair that can climb slopes, fit through narrow doors, and automatically avoid obstacles." Zhao Yang said, swiping his finger, the wall projection changed: "Our earlier prototype just needs a folding function added."

Zhao Xing crouched in the corner, taking apart an old motor in his hands. 'The battery needs to be replaced with a new one; the old model can't last three hours.' He looked up, 'Should we add a voice reminder? Like when the battery is low, or when there are steps ahead.'

'Add.' Zhao Chen nodded, 'Let the AI understand emotions. If the person is unhappy, the wheelchair can play a song, or remind them to go home.'

Just as his words fell, footsteps came from the courtyard gate. Sha Zhu's son walked in holding a briefcase, his hair neatly combed, his suit collar a bit tight, the button barely fastened.

'Done!' He shouted as soon as he entered, 'The business license has been issued! I am the legal representative, and the company name is Future Wing Technology Company!'

The triplets all looked up at once.

'Really?' Zhao Yang jumped up, 'Can we sign the contract now?'

'I brought the contract.' Sha Zhu's son pulled out a few sheets from his bag, 'You three are the chief advisors, contributing technology as equity; I'll handle the paperwork, talk investment, and speak externally. How about that, reliable?'

Zhao Xing stood up and walked around him once. 'Where did you borrow this suit from?'

'Rented.' He chuckled, 'Eight bucks a day, worth it!'

Zhao Chen didn't smile, staring at the documents in his hand. 'The advisory agreement must clearly define the scope of permission; we can't let them arbitrarily change the design.'

'Don't worry.' Sha Zhu's son patted his chest, 'My dad taught me since I was young—meal ticket can be eaten randomly, contract cannot be signed randomly.'

As they were speaking, a car sound came from outside the courtyard. A black sedan pulled up at the gate, its door opened, and a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses stepped out, holding a leather briefcase, his gaze landing directly on the projection on the wall.

'Is this the team you were talking about?' he asked, his voice calm.

'It's me.' Sha Zhu's son stepped forward, 'Are you Mr. Wang, the investor?'

'Wang Jianguo.' The man corrected, 'From the sci-tech innovation fund.'

He walked into the courtyard, his gaze sweeping over the triplets and finally resting on the projection. 'This wheelchair, was it designed by the kids?'

'We three did it together.' Zhao Yang pointed at the screen, 'The power system is Zhao Xing, AI interaction is Zhao Chen, and the structure and materials are mine.'

Wang Jianguo stepped closer, examining those parameters carefully. His brows furrowed tighter and tighter, then he suddenly turned: 'Can I try it?'

'Of course.' Zhao Yang tapped the remote, and a silver-gray wheelchair slid out from inside the house, stopping in front of him.

Wang Jianguo sat down, and the wheelchair automatically adjusted the backrest angle. Before he could react, a voice sounded in his ear: 'Detected high waist pressure for the user; suggest activating support mode. Execute?'

He jerked his head up: 'It can speak?'

'Not just that.' Zhao Xing walked over, 'The camera can recognize faces and judge mood. If you frown for more than ten seconds, it will remind you to rest. On slopes it automatically switches drive mode, saving power on flat ground and providing power uphill. It can climb up to a thirty-degree incline, stronger than any model on the market.'

Wang Jianguo tried pushing the control lever. The wheelchair started smoothly, barely shaking as it passed the threshold. He increased speed, and the wheelchair turned nimbly, braking precisely.

'This…' he stopped, his voice trembling a little, 'This is more advanced than what I saw in Germany last year.'

'The cost is only one-third of that.' Zhao Yang added, 'We use domestic motors and recycled aluminum alloy, and the housing is a mold we made ourselves.'

Wang Jianguo stood up, turned to look at the triplets, and asked, 'How old are you?'

'Ten years old.' The three answered in unison.

He fell silent for a few seconds, then took out a contract from his bag: 'I want to invest a sum of money. Five million, for a fifteen percent stake, in exchange for preferential cooperation rights to your core technology.'

Sha Zhu's son took the contract and flipped through it quickly. Zhao Chen also leaned in, reading line by line.

'Here.' She pointed at a clause, 'We cannot allow third parties to copy our algorithm.'

'Right.' Zhao Xing pointed at another spot, 'Test data must be encrypted and cannot be uploaded to public platforms.'

'And this clause.' Zhao Yang added, 'Any changes must be confirmed jointly by all three of us.'

Wang Jianguo listened, his expression gradually changing. He had originally thought he was just making a perfunctory visit, seeing if he could pick up a cheap project. But the terms these kids proposed were professional, as if they had ten years of experience.

'You… do you really know what you're doing?' he asked.

'We do.' Zhao Chen lifted her head, 'What we want to do is let people walk on their own, not sell equipment.'

Wang Jianguo took a deep breath, picked up a pen, and signed the contract.

Just as he put pen to paper, Zhao Jianguo walked out from inside the house, a lollipop sticking out of his mouth.

'Signed?' he asked.

'Signed.' Wang Jianguo handed over the contract, 'This is the most nervous contract I've ever signed in my life.'

Zhao Jianguo didn't take it, only glanced out the window. A small thing flashed under the tree shade, like a metallic reflection. He narrowed his eyes but said nothing.

The contract was handed to Sha Zhu's son, who grinned: 'From today on, we're an official unit.'

Wang Jianguo put away the copy, then glanced at the wheelchair again: 'Can I take a set of materials back? I need to submit the project approval report when I return.'

'Sure.' Zhao Yang handed over a USB drive, 'But don't let anyone else see the source code.'

'Understood.' He took it, turned, and walked toward the car.

After the car drove off, Zhao Xing finally let out a breath: 'Did he really invest?'

'He really did.' Sha Zhu's son stuffed the contract into his briefcase, 'We'll go to the bank tomorrow to open an account.'

Zhao Chen sat in the wheelchair, lightly tapping the armrest with her fingers: 'We need to start mass production.'

'First make ten units.' Zhao Yang said, 'Find ten people in different situations to trial them and collect feedback.'

'The power interface needs to be standardized.' Zhao Xing pulled out a small notebook to note, 'Also, the charging piles need to come with a simple installation kit.'

As they were speaking, Zhao Jianguo walked over and tossed his lollipop stick into the Garbage Rule bin. 'That robot outside, is it Xu Da Mao's?'

The three were stunned.

'Which one?' Zhao Yang asked.

'The one in the corner with an antenna on its head.' Zhao Jianguo pointed, 'It's been filming just now.'

Zhao Xing rushed over to check. A small robot lay on the ground, its shell blackened, the camera on its head emitting light smoke, wires exposed.

'Burned out?' Zhao Yang picked it up, 'How much did it record?'

'I don't know.' Zhao Xing flipped over the storage card at the bottom, 'But the signal was interfered with; it probably couldn't transmit.'

'Why would Xu Da Mao sneak‑film that?' Zhao Yang frowned.

'Just curious what we're up to.' Zhao Xing took the robot apart, 'It's an old model with poor processing power; it can't even decrypt encrypted video.'

Zhao Jianguo stood at the side, silent. He saw the robot's chest engraved with a number: X-07.

"Keep it for now." He said, "Next time we return it to him, we'll say it got lost on its own."

Zhao Yang laughed out loud: "Dirty trick."

Zhao Chen lowered his head, looking at his wheelchair. "From now on, we'll have to draw the curtains for meetings."

"Right." Zhao Xing nodded, "Let's make another signal shielding cover and install it on the roof."

Sha Zhu's son put his briefcase on the stone table, loosened his tie. "I'm saying, shouldn't we set up an office? We always hold meetings in the courtyard, like a street stall."

"No need." Zhao Yang shook his head, "The laboratory is fine. Add a few screens and hook up to the remote conferencing system."

"What about the name?" Zhao Xing asked, "We have the company, now we need to name the department."

"R&D department is mine." Zhao Yang raised his hand.

"Testing department, I'll take it." Zhao Xing patted his chest.

"User feedback and AI training." Zhao Chen said, "I'll handle that."

"Then what am I?" Sha Zhu's son scratched his head.

"Chairman." The three said in unison.

He laughed: "That title sounds quite pleasant."

Zhao Jianguo leaned against the doorframe, watching them noisily divide the work. Sunlight shone in the courtyard; the smart wheelchair stood still, its screen lit with a line of text: "System self-check complete, ready."

Zhao Chen reached out and touched the screen.

The wheelchair softly replied: "Welcome back, Zhao Chen."
