Chapter 9: This is a Madman
Yi Zhonghai was not lying; he had originally been considerate because they were all neighbors, but this time Zhao Gangzi had truly gone too far.
He did not have even a shred of noble character.
Not only did he hit women, but now he would not even spare the elderly.
Even Shazhu had been beaten and injured!
However, Zhao Gangzi was not the least bit intimidated; he merely looked at Yi Zhonghai coldly, and that fierce gaze made Yi Zhonghai retreat repeatedly in alarm.
"What are you trying to do? I am the First Uncle!" Yi Zhonghai said in a panic.
But then, Yi Zhonghai suddenly straightened his back.
Because the comrades from the Public Security Bureau had arrived, and they were followed by people from the Street Office!
If Zhao Gangzi caused trouble in the Siheyuan, he would definitely be taken away; this was beyond doubt!
"Who is causing trouble here? Don't you know what era this is?!" The Public Security comrade wore a grim face, scanning the courtyard incessantly.
"Officer, you have finally come. If you hadn't arrived, this old woman would have been beaten to death by this villain! Oh, my heavens!"
Jia Zhangshi wailed and sobbed, grabbing the Public Security comrade's leg, accusing the victim first and biting back.
Seeing that their savior had arrived, Yi Zhonghai, who was standing to the side, hurriedly joined Qin Huairu in adding fuel to the fire, painting Zhao Gangzi as a heinous villain and a cancer of the peaceful era.
"Rest assured, if he really is a gangster, we will not ignore it!" the Public Security comrade kept reassuring them.
"Make him pay! This dog thing must pay money, and as for my Dongxu's matter, he cannot escape responsibility for that either!"
"He must work like an ox or a horse for our Jia Family!"
Jia Zhangshi pushed her luck.
She stood in the courtyard, pointing at his nose and cursing.
"Heh, you really are not human," Zhao Gangzi laughed out of extreme anger, then said coldly: "I, Zhao Gangzi, have always acted upright and honorably, yet you are the ones climbing all over me!"
"My father, Zhao Dehan, sacrificed himself for the country's construction, and you old hag actually dare to insult him! If I don't hit you, who should I hit?"
"You can scold me, but if you dare to speak ill of my father, I won't let you off easy, even if I have to risk my life!"
The more Zhao Gangzi spoke, the angrier he became, and his eyes even turned red, while the Public Security comrade to the side fell into deep thought.
"Comrade, is your father Zhao Dehan? The Locksmith Zhao Dehan from the Rolling Mill?" the Public Security comrade asked.
"But we heard his son was a madman?"
The Public Security comrade was somewhat puzzled.
But the comrade from the Street Office on the side knew the full story and hurriedly recounted some of the recent events.
How Zhao Gangzi's madness had been cured overnight, how the Jia Family usually bullied him, and some neighbors in the Siheyuan who still had a conscience also stepped forward to restore the sequence of events.
At this, even the Public Security comrade felt somewhat indignant.
But constrained by his position, he quickly softened his tone and then said: "We have a general understanding of this matter; Jia Zhangshi was in the wrong for insulting Zhao Gangzi's father first."
"Although hitting people is wrong, considering he has an illness, we will not pursue it today."
"I hope you people will not make unreasonable trouble again!"
The Public Security comrade looked at Jia Zhangshi and the others; his meaning was already very clear.
But Yi Zhonghai was still somewhat unwilling and had to say: "Comrade, this Zhao Gangzi is a cancer in our Siheyuan! You cannot..."
"He is just a madman!" Jia Zhangshi interrupted.
"Our Dongxu's matter definitely cannot be left at this!"
But just as Jia Zhangshi finished speaking, she realized something was wrong.
She had heard that the current laws stated that if one had a mental illness, one would not go to jail for hurting people.
Sure enough, the Public Security comrade continued: "You all said he has a mad illness, so naturally we cannot pursue it too strictly. Besides, old lady, you were the one who provoked him first."
"In this day and age, we handle matters not only by evidence but also by reason!"
"But his mad illness was cured long ago." Jia Zhangshi was not reconciled.
But the crowd ignored her; instead, they walked to Zhao Gangzi's side and shook his hand with a solemn expression, which left Zhao Gangzi completely bewildered.
He had originally thought he would have to spend a few days at the station, never expecting the Public Security comrade to be so reasonable.
On the other side, Jia Zhangshi, Qin Huairu, and the others watched this scene, their anger rising rapidly, and the Hatred Value on the System Panel reached an extremely considerable level.
"Comrade, your father was a hero!"
The Public Security comrade patted Zhao Gangzi's shoulder very seriously.
Zhao Gangzi also sighed; although he was a transmigrator, he had inherited the original owner's memories, and he felt everything as if it were his own.
"Then what about this matter?" Zhao Gangzi asked.
"Rest assured, the people's police serve the people; we will not wrong a good person!"
Zhao Gangzi was happy now.
Not only had Yi Zhonghai's little tricks failed, but they had also helped him resolve his predicament.
Jia Zhangshi and the other person on the side were itching with anger; now, not only had they been beaten for nothing, but there was not even a single person speaking in their favor.
The most miserable one was Shazhu, who failed to show off in front of Qin Huairu and had his hand bone cracked by Zhao Gangzi.
He had just started working at the Rolling Mill and was about to be evaluated for a title; if nothing went wrong, he could have been promoted to a Level 9 Chef, but now, given the situation...
He probably would not even be able to flip a ladle.
"This hateful Zhao Shazi, I didn't expect him to have connections with the police. Damn it, he's going to be the death of me!" Shazhu grumbled as he sat in the Hospital corridor, half his arm wrapped in gauze.
At the same time, he felt some lingering fear; this Zhao Gangzi was actually stronger than him, and if there were any more conflicts in the future, he really didn't know what might happen.
And with Jia Dongxu in this state, it was hard to say if it was truly because of the beating Zhao Gangzi gave him last time that he happened to have an accident while working.
"Hmph, Zhuzi, don't worry!"
"Although the police can't deal with that guy Zhao Gangzi, the Jia Family sister-in-law won't let him off either. If nothing goes wrong, they should be making a scene again by now," Yi Zhonghai sneered.
Although the First Uncle looked honest and simple on the surface, in reality, he was the most calculating person in the entire Siheyuan, thinking every day about how to scheme against others, to the point where he had schemed the hair right off his own head.
Over at the Jia Family.
Although the public security officers would not handle this matter, Jia Zhangshi did not let it rest there.
Someone had to be held responsible for what happened to Jia Dongxu.
The Rolling Mill had already made it very clear; at most, they would pay a little money and cover some medical expenses or something similar.
Since Zhao Gangzi had indeed hit Jia Dongxu the day before the accident, it could be linked to some extent; even if she could not get the Zhao Family's house, she could at least make Zhao Gangzi pay one or two hundred.
It would not be in vain that she had been beaten up several times.
However, Jia Zhangshi had also learned to be clever; she no longer pointed fingers and cursed, but instead spread Zhao Gangzi's evil deeds everywhere, making the matter seem true even if it were not.
"Mom, is it really useful for us to do this? Dongxu is still lying in the Hospital right now, and it costs quite a lot of money every single day!" Qin Huairu said, holding Huaihua, feeling somewhat worried.
But Jia Zhangshi was not intimidated in the slightest, cursing and grumbling: "That little brat has hooked up with the public security officers; the whole lot of them are no good, as long as we bite down and don't let go."
"Even if he were Huang Shiren, he would still have to cough up some grease!"
