Chapter 35: Pitiable Little Thing

~7 min read 1,334 words

Brother Jie! Over here! Quick!

A group of lackeys surrounded Zhang Jie as they entered the arena, with more lackeys behind helping to carry the equipment.

Among the many underground boxing ring rooms, a large crowd surrounded a fighting platform, with shouts and cheers mingling together.

Seeing this scene, Zhang Jie grew annoyed, so he rushed onto the platform, quickly administered first aid to the injured, then ordered the lackeys behind him to carry the injured to his operating room.

In the underground boxing arena, only those who are valuable deserve the two words 'treatment'.

And this injured person was actually a foreman of the underground boxing arena, the kind who could earn a lot of money.

Just as Zhang Jie was about to leave and return to his operating room, a familiar figure appeared before his eyes.

That was on another platform: a girl like a madwoman, her body laden with a heavy prosthetic that was utterly mismatched to her petite frame, yet it did not affect her speed in the slightest.

It was Weiniya, who was on the platform trading punches with a big hulk.

All I saw was her wildly swinging her fists, with no technique whatsoever, no defense, leaving the big guy opposite only able to block passively.

Even if the big guy seized an opportunity and dealt a heavy, powerful blow to Weiniya's cheek, it could not stop her frenzied actions; instead, it only made her swing her fists even more recklessly.

She was fighting with her life on the line, unlike the timid quail image Zhang Jie had seen before; at this moment Weiniya bared her teeth like a wild wolf, her eyes flashing with ferocity and ruthlessness, as if a demon had come to claim her life.

The big guy opposite was starting to fear, but the opponent cared nothing for her own life; no matter how many times she was hit, all he got in return was ever more frenzied action, even if she had to use her teeth to tear a chunk of flesh from him.

But the big guy was no pushover; a dagger sprang from the side of his arm and stabbed fiercely at Weiniya's shoulder, yet she did not retreat, allowing the dagger to pierce her shoulder. The injured prosthetic shot out several barbed curved blades, digging deep into the big guy's back and drawing several striking streaks of blood.

Meanwhile, her other hand drew from her waist a dagger whose head was polished to a bright shine, but whose blade was mottled with rust, and she thrust it viciously into the big guy's back.

Although called an underground boxing match, there were actually no rules at all; as long as you could knock your opponent down, any means were employed.

Shock flickered in the big guy's ferocious eyes; he never expected the opponent to show no fear of knives, instead pulling out a specially made tetanus blade and stabbing it toward his back.

He grew afraid, for if he truly contracted tetanus so close to his spine, he would never be able to use a prosthetic again in this lifetime!

"I surrender! I surrender!"

The big guy shouted the words "I surrender," the blade's tip stopping just shy of piercing the skin before being withdrawn, and the crowd below erupted in a huge cheer.

"Hey Brother Jie, is that woman especially ruthless?"

"She's pretty reckless."

Zhang Jie watched Weiniya let her arm hang limp; before leaving the platform she timidly bowed to the big guy, then she withdrew her gaze.

He really hadn't expected this little thing to have such a huge contrast; no wonder a boss would be willing to have her fight.

But if the boss normally makes money, she ought to get a decent share as well.

So just how much money does she owe?

Zhang Jie began to take an interest in this pitiful little thing struggling to repay her debts.

"You spent money to buy a micro optical intelligent drone, using it to observe Weiniya's daily life."

"The next day, after Weiniya once again won a match with her suicide-style fighting, you launched the optical drone and locked onto Weiniya; the drone's optical camouflage kept her from noticing it."

In the footage, we see that after winning the match, Weiniya had just received a modest sum of prize money from her boss, looking left and right like a little cat, as if guarding against something.

One of her prosthetics had been smashed, now hanging limp and powerless at her side.

Suddenly, she seemed to spot a target she needed to be wary of; just as she was about to flee, she was intercepted by a hulking figure whose whole body was a high-tech prosthetic.

All I saw was her clutching the money tightly to her chest, pleading with the hulk, but he seemed unmoved, snatched the money she had been protecting in front of her, and when she tried to resist, he slapped her, sending her flying; she slammed hard into the wall and lay motionless.

That group laughed loudly and swaggered away.

And after that group left, Weiniya suddenly lifted her head, looked left and right, and after confirming everyone was gone, she hurried to another spot and dug out the little money she had hidden.

Just as Zhang Jie thought she would go repair her prosthetic, she instead ran into a hospital, handed the money in her hand to the doctor, and then went into a ward.

In that ward lay a girl with silver hair like Weiniya's, her body bristling with tubes, apparently unconscious.

Next, Weiniya muttered something at the bedside while wiping her eyes; seeing this, Zhang Jie immediately shut off the screen and let out a long sigh.

Leaning back in the recliner, Zhang Jie felt somewhat melancholy.

"Those people who came out just to snatch her money are probably the gang that came to collect debts by removing her prosthetic."

"Is the person on that hospital bed her sister? Or some other role?"

Just as Zhang Jie was pondering, the door of the clinic connected to the underground boxing arena was flung open, and an injured person was carried in, interrupting his train of thought.

By the time Zhang Jie finished his work, it was already approaching evening; he reopened the screen to see Weiniya rummaging through a trash bin for something.

Soon, a stale baguette was pulled out; Weiniya sniffed it, stuck it in her mouth, then she hauled out several near-scrap prosthetic parts from the trash can. She glanced around furtively, then darted off quickly.

The drone followed her left and right turns, eventually arriving at a prosthetic shop in the black market; the shop's owner seemed to have been waiting for her a long time, and Weiniya handed over the scrap prosthetic parts.

All I saw was the owner nodding, then having her lie on the prosthetic operating table; the drone followed inside, discovering that everything around the shop was filthy and chaotic, with various illegal modifications hanging on the walls, wires haphazardly strewn everywhere, and a welding torch placed before the operating table.

That man violently removed her already broken prosthetic, then took illegal modifications from the wall beside him, and using every crude method imaginable—electric welding, spray guns, even slapping on whatever prosthetics he had just removed—he affixed them onto her.

Zhang Jie's eyelids twitched; "Is this installing a prosthetic? Why don't you just say you're welding a rocket?"

In the end, an extravagantly styled prosthetic was welded on; compared to Weiniya's petite frame, it gave the impression of a dog riding Lu Bu.

And that quail was actually quite pleased, continually bowing to the owner, making Zhang Jie's veins bulge as he casually switched off the screen.

He truly couldn't bear to watch; little did he know that shortly after Zhang Jie turned off the screen, Weiniya spat out a mouthful of blood and her stature began to sway, on the verge of collapsing.
