Chapter 1: Hey, a New Recruit at Last! (Seek Follow-Reads! Seek Collection!)

~7 min read 1,361 words

“Main God… full-body repair… reward points… deduct them as you see fit…”

Accompanied by a twisted, pained groan, a thick white beam of light plummeted from the void, instantly engulfing Wu Xian’s shattered body and repairing his wounds at a visibly rapid pace.

Flesh and bone grew continuously, enveloped and fused by a warm energy radiating vibrant life, yet Wu Xian still muttered in pain, his expression grotesque and terrifying, as if enduring unimaginable agony.

Thus, about three minutes passed; the new body was fully restored, but Wu Xian did not descend from midair, and the beam of light had shifted from pure white to a faint green tint.

Only then did the agonized groaning gradually cease.

Phew... Turns out unlocking the gene lock isn't easy at all; sure, the effects are powerful, but the side effects are way too severe—if I hadn't made it back to the Main God Space in time, I'd probably have dropped dead right then and there.

Whispering softly, Wu Xian lowered his head to gaze at the empty white space around him; after confirming no second figure was present, his expression finally relaxed, revealing a deep look of confusion.

Wu Xian, male, 23 years old, citizen of the People’s Republic of China, just graduated from university this year—the perfect age to become a servant to capitalists.

Yet Wu Xian had no interest in this; he'd rather be a lazy fish doing nothing but eating and waiting to die.

Fortunately, although not a second-generation rich, Wu Xian was a demolition second-gen; thanks to an apartment building inherited from his deceased parents, he earned a substantial annual income solely from rent.

At least until marriage and children, he needn’t worry much about money—perfect for living as a lazy fish.

Wu Xian had assumed this life would last a long time, but seven days ago, on a dark, windy night, a colorful bolt of lightning struck from the sky, piercing through the apartment ceiling and hitting him as he lay in bed scrolling short videos.

When he awoke from terror, he found himself in an unfamiliar environment, surrounded by many panicked men and women, as if caught in a mass kidnapping.

Moments later, several calmer individuals stepped forward and told them they were in the horror movie world of A Nightmare on Elm Street 1; anyone who survived seven days here would return to a place called the Main God Space and gain miraculous abilities, becoming true superhumans.

Wu Xian stopped listening after that; the mere term “Main God Space” had stunned him, and he instantly understood his situation.

He had been transported into the original Infinite Terror world—and had become a Lunhuizhe !

Wu Xian was speechless; he’d merely been scrolling a girl’s short video, hadn’t seen any “Do you understand the meaning of life?” pop-up, yet suddenly found himself in Infinite Terror?!

Was it because he was too lazy that even heaven couldn’t bear it, so the Main God Space was sent to jolt him awake?

But this was way too much!

Unfortunately, no one answered Wu Xian’s questions; the plot of A Nightmare on Elm Street had already begun.

In the original story, Zhang Jie once said that horror films like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Ju-On were the most difficult missions in the Main God Space; one misstep, and you'd laughingly get GG.

Indeed, before the third day of the plot, seven or eight of the newcomers who arrived with Wu Xian were already dead; by the seventh day, only Wu Xian, Zhang Jie, and the disguised guide remained.

In the end, perhaps due to the butterfly effect, during another attack by the villain Freddy, Zhang Jie—who should have become a half-guide—was severely wounded and died instantly; Wu Xian, under threat of death, broke through the first-level gene lock and barely survived.

Later, when the guide chose him to become the Zhongzhou Team leader, Wu Xian firmly refused, forcing open his gene lock to suppress his fear and enduring Freddy’s pursuit until the plot ended, being teleported back by the Main God.

After that came the scene at the start of this chapter…

“Clack!”

Feet hitting the ground, Wu Xian stood nearly naked on the Main God Space’s platform; since no one else was around, he paid no mind and eagerly looked up at the giant glowing sphere to check his rewards from the horror film.

“250 points… just repairing cost me over a thousand reward points? Damn! Bastard Main God, you’re a heartless bastard!”

Seeing his reward points displayed as “250,” Wu Xian was speechless, but after recalling his performance in A Nightmare on Elm Street, he wasn’t entirely surprised.

After all, except for his final-day burst, Wu Xian had played it safe as an old dog, shielding everyone in front of him, thus missing most of the plot and merely piggybacking on rewards from seasoned members’ team quests.

Add to that the reward points spent on body repair and gene lock aftereffects, and the numbers roughly balanced out… but hell no!

Two hundred fifty points? Are you kidding me? Who are you trying to annoy?!

Mentally cursing, Wu Xian began browsing the Main God’s exchange interface.

Without team leader privileges, he could only use the most tedious method—checking items one by one—and the selections matched his memories: dazzling and abundant.

Sci-fi weapons, cultivation, bloodlines, magic, martial arts, superpowers, items, food, entertainment products… truly everything imaginable was available.

In the Main God Space, only what you can’t think of is unobtainable.

Of course, the prerequisite is having sufficient reward points and side plot points; otherwise, no matter how good the item, you could only stare helplessly.

Thinking of his “250” reward points, Wu Xian reluctantly closed the exchange interface, then pulled up his personal attribute panel and the option to return to mission worlds.

The former needed no explanation; according to the Main God, his stats far exceeded those of an ordinary adult, even surpassing Olympic champions.

Clearly, this was the benefit of prolonged first-level gene lock activation.

As for the latter, the only mission world he could select was A Nightmare on Elm Street 1; the so-called real world simply didn’t exist.

“Of course, I knew my transportation to the Main God Space wasn’t ordinary—there must be hidden secrets I don’t yet know...”

Wu Xian gritted his teeth; frustration welled up, but suddenly a crushing wave of fatigue hit him, causing him to stagger in place.

In the world of A Nightmare on Elm Street, sleeping or dreaming was the greatest taboo; counting his last encounter with Freddy in a dream, he hadn’t closed his eyes for five straight days.

Now that he relaxed, he could no longer hold on; he collapsed backward onto the Main God Hall floor and fell into a deep, snoring sleep.

“Drip.”

Amid the sound of dripping water, Wu Xian opened his eyes to find himself surrounded by dark, profound chaos.

No up, no down, no front, no back—directions indiscernible, as if floating weightless in the universe.

Where was this? Didn’t I return to the Main God Space?

Recalling his ordeal in A Nightmare on Elm Street, Wu Xian’s heart tightened inexplicably.

At that moment, a path a yard wide appeared in his vision, glowing faintly, as if guiding him forward.

The instant he saw the path, his consciousness grew hazy; his feet moved involuntarily onto it, as if something ahead instinctively drew him.

Time passed—perhaps only an instant, perhaps an endless eon.

When he realized he’d reached the path’s end, the chaos had vanished, replaced by a pure, flawless white space; soft, moonlike mist radiated from all directions, exuding profound mystery.

Main God Space?

No! No giant sphere—and the feeling was completely different!

As Wu Xian grew wary, his shoulder suddenly felt heavy, and then, a strangely familiar voice spoke beside his ear.

“Hey, finally, a new recruit!”
