Chapter 222: Wu Xian: Guaranteed Win! (Request Monthly Votes! Request Subscription!)
【Enter the beam within thirty seconds. Target locked. The Mummy is now transmitting…】
As the familiar light flared, that drowsy sensation returned once more.
And as always, Wu Xian made no resistance to the Master God's hypnosis, letting it transport him into the world of The Mummy 1.
In this brief slumber, he unconsciously replayed the movie's plot once again.
The story begins in 1290 BC… At that time, the High Priest Imhotep and Queen Anck-su-namun, beloved concubine of Pharaoh Seti I, captivated by each other's beauty, could not resist falling into an affair. One moonless, wind-blown night, they jointly painted a green crown upon the Pharaoh's head.
As is well known, some acts have only zero or infinite repetitions. After tasting the sweetness, their lust grew fiercer, like low-budget action films, sneaking secret meetings time and again, even exchanging glances right before the victim's eyes.
Finally, during one of their secret meetings, the victim—no, Pharaoh Seti I—discovered the truth and immediately ordered Imhotep's execution. But he spoke too slowly; instead, Imhotep and Anck-su-namun teamed up and killed him. Yet Anck-su-namun was soon cornered and slain by the Pharaoh's guards who arrived upon hearing the news.
To revive his beloved, Imhotep led his followers to steal Anck-su-namun's corpse from the tomb, entered the City of the Dead, Hamunaptra, retrieved the Book of the Dead, and attempted to summon her soul back from the Underworld.
Just as the ritual was about to succeed, the Pharaoh's guards burst in and disrupted it, forcing Anck-su-namun's soul back into the underworld.
Afterward, Imhotep and his monk followers suffered brutal punishment: the monks were buried alive and turned into mummies, while Imhotep received the most horrific penalty in Egyptian history—being devoured by insects.
His tongue was cut out, his body wrapped entirely in bandages, and he was sealed alive inside an iron coffin, where countless sacred scarabs slowly devoured his flesh, leaving him conscious as his body was eaten away piece by piece.
Because this punishment was so cruel, it was said those who endured it accumulated boundless hatred. If the seal were broken and they returned from the Underworld, they would gain limitless power and become a monster capable of destroying Egypt.
Thinking of this, Wu Xian's mind conjured the image of Imhotep's mummified corpse from the film, and he opened his eyes to see a dim sky obscured by sand.
He sat up and instinctively glanced at his teammates, surprised to find the Master God had assigned no new members this time—his heart eased slightly; at least he wouldn't need to protect rookies in this team battle.
He then raised his hand to read the task prompt on his Lunhuiwanbiao, his brow slightly furrowing.
"Seize the Book of the Sun and the Book of the Dead, aid Imhotep in reviving Anck-su-namun. If the scriptures have already been used by non-canon characters, kill the bearers of the Sun and Death Seals to reclaim usage rights… Damn, we've got the villain's script. The Master God's up to something."
Wu Xian muttered. Though Imhotep and Anck-su-namun would eventually become Lunhuizhe and join the Zhongzhou team in the standard timeline, in the normal course of events, Zhongzhou should have been their enemy.
Could it be that Zhongzhou was too strong, and Imhotep was no longer worthy as an opponent, so the Master God simply placed them on the same side to hand them an easy win?
"No—given the Master God's nature, the other three teams' tasks are almost certainly to eliminate Imhotep and seize the Book of the Sun and the Book of the Dark. That way, Zhongzhou must face three rival teams at once, balancing the combat power perfectly."
Wu Xian thought this through, considering the battles ahead.
Without doubt, the Emodui was the strongest among the three, with at least two fourth-rank fighters. Excluding himself as a BUG, Zhongzhou truly had no clear advantage.
Besides them, there were the Senzhou team and the Donghai team.
The former, like the Xihai team, was a standard breeder squad—only two Lunhuizhe were combat-capable. But whether in gene-lock development, bloodline rank, or equipment, any member of Zhongzhou now outclassed them easily—no real threat.
As for the Donghai team, they had never shone in the original work. Their only near-fourth-rank fighter emerged only in the late stages. At this point, even if they reached third-rank, it would be a stroke of luck—certainly not worth Wu Xian's attention.
He felt this match was already won. Unless the Master God shamelessly gave the Emodui or the other two teams epic buffs—while hiding them from its evaluation system—Zhongzhou had a very high chance of total victory, even if he did nothing but watch.
But even if the Master God was shameless, Wu Xian, this cheat, was even more shameless.
With his current power, equivalent to a high-level fourth-rank, he was a T0-tier force even in the final battle. If any unexpected crisis arose, he would personally crush it—no room for accident.
Guaranteed win!
Moments later, Zhongzhou's members gradually woke. Like Wu Xian, they were surprised no new members had been assigned—but quickly calmed, their eyes brightening as they read the task prompt on their Lunhuiwanbiao.
"Didn't expect we'd be on the same side as the villain boss. The Master God really knows how to have fun."
After reading the main quest, Zheng Zhe let out a bitter laugh. Though his enhancement path had been stolen by the clone, his kindness and saintly heart remained. The thought of aiding Imhotep made him feel uneasy.
"Why overthink it? Our task is to help Imhotep revive Anck-su-namun—not to help him destroy Egypt.
After completing the main quest, we just pin him down and beat him senseless, then use mind control to turn him good. That way, we complete the mission and save the world—perfect."
"Ah… that actually makes sense."
Zheng Zhe scratched his head and began chuckling foolishly.
"Don't rush the main quest—this horror film's focus is the team battle."
Chu Xuan said: "The Emodui arrived three days ago. Normally, they'd likely ally with the other two teams. Senzhou entered this world thirteen days ago—they've had ample time to build major influence. We must prepare for imminent combat."
Everyone nodded. Their previously relaxed expressions turned serious.
Five minutes passed. The Master God's protective barrier opened, and Zhan Lan, her hair now vivid red, closed her eyes.
The next instant, an unimaginably terrifying spiritual force erupted, spreading instantly over thousands of miles, soon engulfing the entire Cairo region.
"Hm?!"
Zhan Lan let out a soft gasp, suddenly opening her eyes as concentric purple ripples spread outward.
But immediately, crimson-gold light exploded, accompanied by a piercing, lofty phoenix cry, shattering the purple intrusion into fragments.
