Chapter 66: Reforming the Alliance—Yet (Seek Follow-Read! Seek Follow-Read!)
“You bastard!!”
Being pointed at and called a waste, anyone would be unable to swallow such humiliation.
Especially since the other party was the very culprit who had plunged them into danger—this double insult made the members of the Yinzhou team burn with rage.
In an instant, the atmosphere turned tense as a drawn bowstring; everyone except Shiva Gantian and Arot took up combat stances, as if waiting only for their captain’s order to chop the vile breeder into minced meat.
Unfortunately, Shiva Gantian clearly had no such intention—he merely gave Yuri an intense look, then turned gently to the blonde girl: “Xuenai, are you alright?”
“Captain, I’m fine...”
A weak voice rose as Xuenai lifted her head toward Shiva Gantian, forcing a strained smile—though with blood streaming from all seven orifices, it looked faintly horrifying.
“Hah!”
Yuri let out a sarcastic laugh upon hearing this.
“Fine... yes, if I’d arrived just a moment later, you wouldn’t be dead now—but you’d be a puppet under someone else’s control. If that counts as ‘fine,’ then I’ve got nothing more to say.”
Shiva Gantian’s expression darkened. “Was this the work of the Zhongzhou team’s mental control specialist? Is his power truly that terrifying?”
This time, Yuri didn’t sneer—he grew slightly serious: “Hmm... not that strong, actually. I can sense his mental energy is vast, but his technique is crude—barely at the level of a first-stage gene lock.”
Logically, it shouldn’t produce such an effect. If I’m not mistaken, the Zhongzhou team’s mentalist must have exchanged for some item that drastically boosts total mental energy.”
Even so, the fact that I had to team up with your mentalist just to barely hold him off proves Zhongzhou team’s strength... Hmph. It seems the Master God’s assessment is still accurate.”
Here, Yuri turned again to Shiva Gantian, asking coolly: “So, did the Master God issue a notification? How many did Zhongzhou team lose? Any gene-lock users among them?”
“...No. Zhongzhou team suffered no casualties.”
Shiva Gantian spat out the words like squeezing toothpaste, his gaze piercing Yuri with icy murderous intent.
Yuri paid no mind to the killing intent, but his brow furrowed at the news that Zhongzhou team had lost zero points.
“Even newbies can be protected? Unless Zhongzhou team already has twelve veterans, each capable of withstanding a nuclear blast, then they must possess either a large-scale defensive item or spatial teleportation ability—this is troublesome...”
“Yuri, it seems our two teams must truly ally.”
Shiva Gantian stared at Yuri, who was muttering to himself, his eyes deep: “From just now’s Shitan , it’s clear Zhongzhou team’s strength is not to be underestimated. Just that mentalist alone can hold off two of your Xihai team members.”
As for the rest of Zhongzhou team—even if only one or two are combat-capable, they can slaughter your bred ‘pigs.’ Then even if you survive to return to the Master God’s space, your losses will be catastrophic.”
Yuri narrowed his eyes, tightening his hand on Xuenai’s head, then smirked: “You’re right—but don’t forget, it was you who threw the nuke at Zhongzhou team. Now it’s you who’s in the red. Clearly, Zhongzhou team is the most profitable target.”
Even if we Xihai team can’t match Zhongzhou, we still have the power to fight to the death. If worst comes to worst, we can simply stay out of it, focus solely on the main quest, and still return loaded with rewards.”
Yuri wasn’t exaggerating. Xihai team, having killed four Yinzhou members, now had a positive score of two points—4,000 reward points.
He and the other breeder, Reinhardt, had each earned an additional 8,000 reward points and four C-rank side quests.
If they completed the main quest next, it would be another hefty payout—no need to fight Zhongzhou team to the death.
In fact, they’d already made backup plans: Xihai team’s captain, Reinhardt, was currently attempting to destroy the curse’s source. Once done, Xihai team could leave this wretched world outright, ignoring the team battle entirely.
“True enough... but don’t forget—we can fight to the death too!”
At that moment, Shiva Gantian’s eyes glowed crimson; behind him, the Buddhist wheel emitted a faint golden light, and from nothingness slowly emerged a ten-meter-long two-headed cobra, looking down on Yuri, its twin jaws spewing fire and lightning, radiating deadly menace.
Not far behind him, a white man in a lab coat grinned savagely, fine fur sprouting across his face, his mouth elongating forward like a humanoid wolf.
“So, you’re thinking of fighting me?”
Yuri sneered, clearly dismissive.
“Indeed, we can’t hold you.”
Shiva Gantian glanced at Yuri’s silver battle armor, speaking calmly: “But don’t forget—I can have Xuenai stop resisting her mental energy right now. Let Zhongzhou team detect this place, then I’ll surrender her to them.”
I could even help Zhongzhou team trap you and your captain, letting them easily harvest the reward points from your ‘pigs.’ All we need is three heads—to reduce our point deduction...”
“Do you think, if you were Zhongzhou team’s captain, you’d refuse such a generous offer?”
Silence fell. Everyone stared at Shiva Gantian as if he were insane.
“Are you mad?”
Yuri’s face darkened; for the first time, he truly regarded the Yinzhou captain: “You gain nothing from this—and Zhongzhou team won’t let you off easily...”
“No gain? Fine. Living matters more than anything. As for Zhongzhou team’s revenge... hah, who cares? At least I’ll take one down with me!”
Shiva Gantian locked eyes with Yuri: “Fight or not—it’s your choice. Decide now.”
Yuri said nothing, studying Shiva Gantian for a long moment, then smiled: “Good. You’ve earned the right to ally with me now...”
“Then I’ll accept your offer on behalf of my captain. I’ll fully assist you in crushing Zhongzhou team—but one condition: all of you must obey my orders.”
“No problem!”
Shiva Gantian smiled, about to speak further—
But suddenly, a familiar chill surged, making everyone’s hearts tremble.
Shiva Gantian’s Buddhist wheel flared brightly; Yuri’s pupils contracted, and in his free hand, a white talisman stone appeared.
Boom!!
White smoke exploded—a silver staff crashed down toward his skull!
