Chapter 217: Egghead Director: Captain America Was Resurrected by Rojie
On the top floor of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, the director’s office.
Nick Fury stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, staring at the rain outside.
Distant skyscrapers’ neon lights blurred into smudged patches through the downpour.
Lately, Director Egghead hadn’t slept a single peaceful night.
He spent every day playing “catch the mole,” only to discover seventy percent of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were Hydra operatives.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had become a sieve.
The irony? Because everyone was a mole, even Nick Fury himself had to act like a thief just to do something legitimate.
He felt more like a mole himself.
Fortunately, he still had a few trusted lieutenants.
Coulson was one of them.
So when the wreckage of Captain America’s plane was found in the Arctic,
Nick Fury didn’t hesitate—he immediately dispatched Coulson to the scene.
Only a loyal, reliable agent like Coulson could ensure the mission’s success.
But within days, Coulson’s report sent Fury’s blood pressure soaring.
The plane wreckage had been located, but nearby glaciers showed clear signs of artificial damage.
Captain America’s body was gone.
It had almost certainly been moved in advance.
And judging from the scene’s traces, this had happened just days ago.
Nick Fury’s face darkened.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had kept the operation under strict secrecy—no leaks, no slips—yet someone had still beaten them to it.
It could only be a mole.
Thinking of this, Nick Fury cursed under his breath: “Motherfucker, these traitors!”
He paced back and forth in his office, racking his brain for solutions.
Nick Fury couldn’t help but think of Rojie.
That guy knew every secret of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra, and his power was absurdly immense—he might be able to clean house.
But the moment the thought surfaced, Nick Fury shook his head.
He could never risk asking someone whose background he didn’t know.
Finally, Fury pulled out his phone from his pocket, scrolled to Tony’s number, and considered calling him.
Tony’s father was Howard Stark, founder of S.H.I.E.L.D.
He was, at the very least, an original shareholder.
Nick Fury trusted him.
Just then, a sharp ringtone blared.
The screen flashed with Coulson’s name.
Nick Fury frowned slightly and answered quickly: “Coulson, what is it?”
On the other end came the howling wind and Coulson’s ragged, gasping breaths.
His voice trembled with barely contained excitement.
“Director, we found Captain America!”
Nick Fury’s grip tightened on the phone: “Where’s the body?”
“Not a body—a living man!”
“He’s still wearing that star-spangled suit, talking to passersby.”
Coulson’s voice nearly cracked.
“Our agents captured clear footage—it’s definitely Captain America himself.”
Fury froze, his mind instantly switching to overdrive, spawning wild theories.
Could Hydra have cloned him using Captain America’s cells?
But how could Hydra possibly complete a clone in just a few days?
Before he could sort it out, Coulson lowered his voice and continued:
“Captain America’s appearance seems linked to two individuals S.H.I.E.L.D. is closely monitoring.”
“The magician Rojie and Spider-Gwen.”
Nick Fury slapped his forehead—he now understood the likely sequence.
He knew Rojie was running a superhero company.
It was almost certain Captain America’s return had something to do with Rojie.
Captain America had been resurrected by Rojie!
Nick Fury ordered: “Immediately attempt contact with Captain America. Reveal your identity if necessary.”
Coulson replied: “Understood.”
After hanging up, Nick Fury slipped his phone back into his pocket.
Already, he was plotting how to use Captain America’s reappearance to set a trap and expose every Hydra mole inside S.H.I.E.L.D.
Just then, his phone began vibrating violently again.
Nick Fury answered with a grim face.
Maria Hill’s voice came through: “Director, Eric is missing.”
“And so is the Tesseract.”
“What?”
Nick Fury nearly spat blood.
“The Tesseract just vanished?”
“That thing can destroy Earth—it’s not some discounted egg at the supermarket.”
Eric was an astronomer S.H.I.E.L.D. had invited to study the Tesseract.
Who would’ve thought he’d vanish with it?
How was this possible?
A frail scientist with no combat skills—how could he disappear under the watch of elite agents?
“Seal all exits immediately. Investigate everyone who touched the Tesseract in the past week.”
Nick Fury roared into the phone, veins bulging on his neck.
“Find the Tesseract—by any means necessary, even if Itachi have to dig up the entire planet!”
After hanging up, Nick Fury paced back and forth in place.
His first thought was Hydra’s traitors.
But he quickly dismissed it.
With Hydra moles everywhere inside S.H.I.E.L.D., they had no reason to risk exposure by stealing the Tesseract.
Then who?
Was there another faction eyeing the Tesseract?
Cold sweat broke out on Nick Fury’s forehead.
He couldn’t help but think of Rojie again.
Nick Fury gritted his teeth—he had no choice but to ask Rojie for help.
It was a last resort.
With moles everywhere in S.H.I.E.L.D., sending agents to find the Tesseract meant even if they found it, Hydra might intercept and hide it.
He had no other options.
…
The next morning, sunlight scorched the private beach.
Rojie leaned back on a lounge chair, sunglasses on, watching the trio standing before him like they were being punished.
S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Egghead Director stood stiffly in the center, his face hardened like charcoal baked in the sun.
On the left stood Steve, clutching his shield.
On the right stood Coulson, his bald head gleaming under the sun, even brighter than Fury’s.
“Well, Egghead, show up with a team to apply for superhero status?”
Rojie removed his sunglasses and squinted at Coulson’s shiny scalp.
“Bro, your hairline’s in serious danger.”
“How about the stage name ‘Baldman’?”
“Don’t rush to refuse—it’s borrowed from a powerful C-class hero.”
Coulson opened his mouth to respond, but Nick Fury cut in: “I’m here for serious business.”
“The Tesseract is missing. Hydra has deeply infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. I need your help.”
Steve snapped his head up, stunned.
Last night, Coulson had vividly recounted S.H.I.E.L.D.’s glorious history to him.
About protecting world peace, safeguarding Earth’s safety—Steve had been fired up.
Especially since the organization had been founded by his goddess, Carter.
Steve was very impressed, almost signing the employment contract on the spot.
Now he was told that S.H.I.E.L.D. had become Hydra’s nest.
It would be better to join Rojie’s Superhero Company.
