Chapter 61: Don

~6 min read 1,156 words

The girl, belatedly realizing the impropriety of her actions, spoke up voluntarily: “I’m Makomo. I mean Itachi no harm—if Itachi’re upset, I’ll leave right now.”

Makomo?

Hearing that name, Chu Yang’s mind flashed with sudden recognition—he remembered the girl’s identity.

The mentor of the protagonist, Kamado Tanjiro, was Rengoku Saigetsu, the former Water Pillar and Makomo’s master.

This girl before him was Tanjiro’s senior disciple; according to the original plot, Makomo would eventually die at Mount Tomi.

The Gui who killed Makomo had been imprisoned in this mountain by Rengoku Saigetsu himself, so every final selection, it would hunt down Rengoku’s disciples as revenge.

The fox mask on her face was the mark of a disciple of Rengoku Saigetsu.

“Forget it, Itachi—”

Before Chu Yang could finish, several dark shadows suddenly lunged from the forest’s shadows toward them.

“Flesh! Fresh human flesh!!!”

These starving Gui had no trace of reason left.

In their eyes, Chu Yang and Makomo were the finest delicacies imaginable.

Clang~ Clang~

As the sound of swords being drawn rang out, Makomo immediately counterattacked; though petite and weak in strength, her speed was extraordinary.

In the darkness, a flash of blade light appeared, and instantly Chu Yang heard the roar of waves—the two dark shadows before them were decapitated, turning to ash.

The remaining Gui , sensing danger, immediately turned their weapons and charged toward Chu Yang.

“Heh, can’t even pick on the easy targets? No wonder Itachi’re doomed to be Gui .” Chu Yang sneered, drawing his halberd from his back and swinging it with crushing force.

With Chu Yang’s strength combined with the halberd’s weight—even without its sharp edge—it was enough to wound on contact and kill on touch.

Four or five dark shadows were cut cleanly in half by Chu Yang’s blow; their lower halves fell to the ground, howling in agony.

Makomo stared, dumbfounded.

What kind of insane strength is this?

It was easier than slicing tofu!

Chu Yang dragged his halberd forward, slowly approaching them, severing each Gui ’s head in turn; the Gui , writhing under the terror of death, emitted piercing screams that echoed long through the forest.

Makomo was utterly stunned.

How could this man be more terrifying than Gui ?

Couldn’t he just give them a quick death?

Makomo felt this boy was slightly frightening; she tiptoed into the darkness and vanished without a trace.

By the time Chu Yang had sent all the Gui to meet Yama, he turned around— the girl was gone.

“Hey! Don’t run!” Chu Yang, fearing Makomo might encounter the Hand Gui , immediately activated Kenbunshoku Haki to lock onto her location and chased after her.

Chu Yang, sprinting through the darkness with his halberd slung over his back, looked every bit a deranged serial killer— the girl turned pale with fear and ran faster than ever.

The two, one chasing, one fleeing, drew the attention of most of the Gui in the mountain.

Soon, a long line of dark shadows trailed behind Chu Yang.

“Damn it! What the hell are Itachi guys following me for?”

Chu Yang, furious at being mistaken for a monster, spun around and charged into the Gui horde, swinging his great blade to vent his rage.

In his fury, Chu Yang charged through the Gui , sweeping his halberd—four or five heads flew into the air; not a single Gui could stand against him for a single blow.

The scene resembled a famous Sanguo IP grass-cutting game.

In less than a minute, all the Gui chasing Chu Yang lay dead beneath his halberd; the watching shadows in the darkness vanished instantly.

Chu Yang ignored the onlookers and rushed toward the direction Makomo had fled. “Damn it, she runs fast! Shit, that guy who went to Hogwarts should’ve learned Apparition first!”

To clear obstacles ahead, Chu Yang, sprinting wildly, resembled a runaway bulldozer—he ran while furiously swinging his enormous halberd, cutting down every barrier in his path.

Occasionally, foolish Gui tried to ambush him; before they could even get close, they were chopped into pulp by his halberd.

With brute force behind it, the halberd was no longer a weapon—it was a high-power cutting machine.

“Run! A mad human is coming!”

“That guy’s got a giant cleaver—he’s almost shaved the whole mountain bare!”

“Don’t get near him—he’ll kill Itachi!”

The Gui of Mount Tomi scattered in panic; even when encountering other trial participants, they paid no attention—only fleeing for their lives.

Watching the Gui flee in terror, the young swordsmen taking the trial stood frozen…

“Help! Don’t come near me!”

“Why are Itachi always chasing me? I just glanced at your blade—is that really worth it?”

Makomo, sprinting ahead in panic, was nearly crying from fear—she couldn’t understand why a swordsman, instead of killing Gui , was chasing her.

“I’m trying to save your life!” Chu Yang, furious, flushed red, his expression now even more “kindly” menacing.

As a straight man, Chu Yang always spoke plainly—he never hinted.

“Itachi’re kidding a fool! To me, Itachi’re the greatest danger!” Makomo didn’t believe him for a second—he was covered in blood, wielding a giant cleaver—who’d believe him?

The chase continued; some Gui drawn by the commotion attacked in groups.

They couldn’t catch Makomo, so they targeted Chu Yang instead.

Makomo plunged deeper into the forest.

This time, Chu Yang lost her—completely lost track of her.

Yet no one expected that this very failure to catch her would lead Makomo straight to the Hand Gui !

It had just devoured a trial participant; after digesting its appetizer, its appetite surged again!

The Hand Gui stared greedily at Makomo—cute, beautiful, skin smooth and tender; such a girl would be the most delicious meal.

In the instant they met, they both looked at each other.

Makomo sensed the opponent’s overwhelming power; her expression turned grim, but she was confident she could slay this terrifying Gui .

“Hehe…” the Hand Gui chuckled softly, its face twisting into a more grotesque grin as it imagined the girl’s final struggles.

The wheels of fate turned slowly…

On the other side, Chu Yang, having drawn a massive wave of hatred, was engaged in an unusual massacre.

His fury at being mistaken for a monster found the perfect outlet.

Frantically swinging his halberd, Chu Yang didn’t even need to use sword techniques—he simply churned the Gui before him into meat paste like a meat grinder.

To the Gui , his enormous halberd was even more terrifying than Death’s scythe; they watched their comrades first decapitated, then crushed into pulp.

Frenzied!

Terrifying!

As for cruelty… not a single Gui could match this burly boy!

The Gui trembled in fear, and the young swordsmen taking the final selection trembled in terror.

Under the moonlight, Chu Yang stood atop a mountain of corpses and blood, drenched in crimson!

Bathed in moonlight, he looked like a blood-red monster!

He was more terrifying than the Gui !!!
