Chapter 113: What Level of Jujutsu Sorcerer Is Shengzai?

~6 min read 1,129 words

“So, Teacher Gojo, you’re saying that Higurashi and the other two will operate as a team, while from now on I’ll be acting alone like the second-year seniors, handling missions and exorcising curses by myself?”

Because his strength is too great, Higurashi and the other two are grouped together, while I’m assigned to operate alone?

“Exactly, that’s more or less the idea. Aren’t you thrilled?”

So far, among all current students at Tokyo Jujutsu High, those granted the privilege of solo operations are few and far between.”

Looking at Gojo Wu, who wore a satisfied smile as if proud of his own wisdom, Shengzai was momentarily at a loss for words.

To be honest, this arrangement was both advantageous and disadvantageous for Shengzai.

As everyone knows, according to the usual tropes of Rexuefan , joining the protagonist’s group certainly increases safety—even if the risk of death still exists, it’s still far better than being a generic extra.

But Higurashi’s body houses Menma Sueno, a madman, and last time I clearly offended him badly; keeping some safe distance from Higurashi might not be a bad thing for me.

After all, just like the slaughter-knife boy and the fox-faced ninja from the neighboring drama, they too started with something strange inside them.

Yet as the chosen one, what others see as an omen of misfortune becomes nothing but a pure cheat system for them.

Whenever they face an opponent they can’t beat, their internal “big boss” immediately logs in to fight for them—and as the protagonist, no matter how recklessly they act, they never die, leaving their companions to suffer.

Those with strong destinies fare better, but those with weak destinies often end up as mere excuses or fuel for the protagonist’s forced power-ups.

Shengzai hasn’t finished watching Jujutsu Kaisen, but he’s heard rumors that even Gojo Wu was eventually killed in the later arcs.

If Gojo Wu, who was absurdly powerful, got taken out, then clearly being part of the protagonist’s group isn’t absolutely safe in this series.

If that’s the case, Shengzai naturally stopped obsessing over forcing his way into the protagonist’s group.

After all, he’d already joined Tokyo Jujutsu High through Higurashi’s storyline; now he just needed to master the relevant jujutsu knowledge, and his future maneuvering space would be ample.

“Teacher Gojo, Shengzai is just a freshman like us, and he transferred to Tokyo Jujutsu High with me. Sending him out to fight alone is way too reckless.”

Why not pair Dingqi with Fukuroi, and let me team up with Shengzai instead?”

Exorcising curses is full of unknowns and danger—Higurashi had already fully experienced this over the past few days.

Although he knew Shengzai was strong, Higurashi still couldn’t help worrying about his best friend.

He even felt that Shengzai had joined Tokyo Jujutsu High largely because of him.

Hearing Higurashi’s words and seeing Fukuroi Hui and Dingqi, who remained silent but clearly agreed with Higurashi, Gojo Wu turned to Shengzai and asked: “What do you think? Do you have any objections to this arrangement?”

If you’re unhappy, I can…”

But before Gojo Wu could finish, Shengzai interrupted: “Since this is the school’s decision, I have no objection.”

And if Principal Yagumo and Teacher Gojo both suggest this, it must be because they believe it’s best for me. In that case, I trust both of you completely.”

After hearing Shengzai’s words, Gojo Wu paused for a moment, then smiled.

Originally, Gojo Wu had planned to explain the reasoning behind this special arrangement to Shengzai, but now it seemed Shengzai not only possessed strength but also intelligence beyond their expectations.

Correct. Assigning Shengzai to operate alone as a solo unit was, first, because Yagumo Zhengdao and Gojo Wu were certain Shengzai possessed such strength.

Second, operating this way would allow Shengzai to accumulate merit faster and strive for promotion to a Grade One Jujutsu Sorcerer sooner.

Given Shengzai’s talent and strength, he might not even need much time before the jujutsu world sees its fifth Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer.

Also, in recent years, curses have been increasing dramatically; for unknown reasons, curses across the world have erupted like a geyser, even showing signs of a revival of the jujutsu golden age.

Shengzai is extremely strong; at his level, he’s fully capable of handling Grade One jujutsu incidents alone, exorcising Grade One or even weaker Special Grade curses. Pairing him with Higurashi and the others would be a gross waste of resources.

Third, it’s because of Shengzai’s relationship with Higurashi and Menma Sueno.

Many in the jujutsu high command currently view Higurashi as a candidate for elimination, since they see him as a vessel for Menma Sueno and thus an unacceptably unstable variable.

While the idea of using Higurashi’s body to destroy Menma Sueno’s fingers sounds reasonable, what if Menma Sueno isn’t eliminated—and instead, feeding him fingers only helps him regain strength?

If not for Gojo Wu’s power, which exceeds conventional limits, the jujutsu high command would never have accepted such a reckless plan.

Gojo Wu and Yagumo Zhengdao both knew that Shengzai and Higurashi were childhood friends with an extremely close bond; if the jujutsu high command secretly moved to kill Higurashi and Shengzai found out, what would Shengzai do?

Or, if the jujutsu high command learned that Higurashi, the vessel of Menma Sueno, had an extremely close relationship with Shengzai—and that Menma Sueno himself had developed some interest in Shengzai—how would they handle Shengzai?

Gojo Wu and Yagumo Zhengdao both held great hopes for Shengzai; Higurashi was already under scrutiny because of Menma Sueno, and there was nothing they could do.

But at least until Shengzai had fully grown, Gojo Wu and Yagumo Zhengdao didn’t want the jujutsu high command’s old schemers to target Shengzai.

The best solution was to separate Shengzai from Higurashi—and there was another benefit: with Shengzai’s overwhelming power removed from the team, Higurashi and the others, now facing real danger, would grow faster and more effectively.

After finishing the meal, Shengzai was quickly taken away by Gojo Wu; as one of only four Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerers, Gojo Wu not only taught at Tokyo Jujutsu High but also handled numerous curse incidents.

After Shengzai and Gojo Wu left, Dingqi couldn’t help looking curiously at Higurashi and Fukuroi and asking: “Just how strong is Shengzai as a jujutsu sorcerer? Why did Teacher Gojo decide to assign him solo missions?”

Previously, Dingqi probably wouldn’t have been so puzzled, but during this curse exorcism mission, he’d already seen how dangerous the curses in Tokyo were.

The other two in the squad—Fukuroi aside—Higurashi, the newbie, had already shown strength no weaker than hers.

And yet even they needed to operate as a team of three; just how powerful must Shengzai be to operate alone?
