Chapter 117: Two-Faced Sōna: Everything Is Under My Control

~6 min read 1,021 words

As the vessel for Two-Faced Sōna, Suguru’s initial limit might have been two or three of Two-Faced Sōna’s fingers.

But if the vessel itself grows stronger, then the vessel’s own limit will naturally rise as well.

That’s why the Tokyo Jujutsu High, despite still having other sealed fingers of Two-Faced Sōna, didn’t rush to have Suguru swallow them all immediately.

Even before arriving at this Tokyo juvenile detention center, Two-Faced Sōna had sensed the presence of his own fingers.

Moreover, in Two-Faced Sōna’s view, this was a rare opportunity—if his plan succeeded, he could discard this damned vessel Suguru and fully revive in this era.

The most troublesome one, Gojo, is currently not beside Suguru and his companions; according to Two-Faced Sōna’s calculations, if Suguru swallows three of his fingers now and he’s released, he should be able to struggle a little.

And as long as during this brief moment when Two-Faced Sōna emerges, he swiftly kills Suguru’s companions—especially Shengzai Wen—and makes Suguru witness it.

Then Suguru will inevitably shatter mentally; three fingers are already Suguru’s current limit, and with his mind collapsing, this combination will give Two-Faced Sōna an 80 percent chance of directly replacing Suguru.

The power of three fingers might still be insufficient to defeat the previous Gojo, but that’s not a big problem.

After all, he’s not here now, and by the time he finds this place, I’ll already be long gone.

First kill that insolent Shengzai Wen, then when I’ve gathered the rest of the fingers and restored my strength, I’ll return to settle the score with Gojo—crush him beneath my feet!

Immediately after Suguru and the other two entered the Cursed Object Domain, a cursed spirit with a white humanoid upper body and a black serpent lower body suddenly appeared before them without a sound.

When they sensed the overwhelming pressure radiating from this cursed spirit, the trio froze in place, unable to move.

Meanwhile, Two-Faced Sōna, seated upon the bone throne inside Suguru, grinned so wide his mouth nearly twisted.

He had genuinely feared that if the Special-Rank cursed spirit here was eliminated first by Shengzai, his plan would be ruined.

Though he’d had little contact with them, Two-Faced Sōna could sense that, unlike the carefree Suguru and Fushiguro, who appeared calm but was easily impulsive and quick to escalate, Shengzai was far more cunning and intelligent.

Even before entering this place, he had keenly sensed that the cursed spirits here shared a similar aura with himself—and had stopped Suguru from entering.

If Shengzai were beside Suguru, Two-Faced Sōna had no confidence he could successfully obtain this third finger.

Even when Shengzai was still beside Suguru, Two-Faced Sōna didn’t dare surface—he only emerged after Shengzai left, to manipulate Suguru.

I have to admit that his plan has been going quite well so far.

To Two-Faced Sōna, the Special-Rank cursed spirit before him was pathetic enough to be scraped off his foot, yet it was more than enough to overwhelm Suguru and the other two novices.

The facts proved Two-Faced Sōna’s guess correct: although Suguru and the others had excellent potential and talent, they had yet to grow into their power.

Freshmen just entering school facing off against a Special-Rank cursed spirit—even if the spirit was also a novice—the gap in cursed energy was undeniable; the trio had no chance but to be brutally slaughtered.

Fushiguro’s summoned Jade Dogs were obliterated in a single strike.

Kuki’s nails, coated in cursed energy, couldn’t even pierce the spirit’s defense!

Suguru swung his blade, Tuzu Mo, slashing at the spirit’s neck—sparks flew, and a metallic clang echoed through the air.

Yet the Special-Rank cursed spirit showed no damage at all, and instead grinned at Suguru with a twisted smile.

The next instant, a blur flashed before him; when Suguru felt searing pain in his arm, he realized his right hand—the one gripping the blade—had been cleanly severed by a palm strike.

Seeing Suguru, now bleeding profusely from his severed arm, Fushiguro and Kuki’s faces twisted in horror, and they charged at the Special-Rank cursed spirit with their weapons.

But sadly, when Fushiguro’s black sword and Kuki’s hammer struck the spot where the spirit had just been, the spirit had vanished.

The next second, both Fushiguro and Kuki were struck hard in the abdomen, their bodies flung backward at incredible speed, crashing into the walls and leaving deep craters.

“Suguru, you’re truly weak. With this feeble, powerless state of yours, you can’t even protect your own companions, let alone help those in need.

Because of your stubbornness, not only will you die now, but your companions will die with you.

Why not hand over your body to me? This trash? I could kill it effortlessly. Do you really want to watch your friends die?”

As Suguru and the others neared annihilation, Two-Faced Sōna surfaced again at the perfect moment.

Since he’d been inside Suguru all along, he knew Suguru’s weaknesses perfectly—unless pushed to the brink of death, Suguru would never surrender control of his body.

Due to massive blood loss, Suguru’s consciousness was already fading; seeing Fushiguro and Kuki embedded in the walls, he struggled inwardly but weakly spoke: “Control… of my body… I’ll… temporarily give it to you.”

“But you… must promise… me… that while you control me, you won’t harm Fushiguro or Kuki.”

Two-Faced Sōna hadn’t expected that even as Suguru’s mind blurred and he teetered on the edge of death, he still remembered Fushiguro and Kuki’s safety.

According to his original plan, Two-Faced Sōna intended to kill all of Suguru’s companions.

But if he agreed to Suguru’s condition, the only one left to kill would be Shengzai Wen.

“No problem. I accept your terms.”

After only a brief hesitation, Two-Faced Sōna agreed to Suguru’s deal, because in his view, Fushiguro and Kuki weren’t essential targets.

Just two insignificant nobodies—Shengzai was Suguru’s true friend and emotional pillar, and also Two-Faced Sōna’s prime target; killing Shengzai alone would be enough!

As for why Suguru only forbade harming Fushiguro and Kuki and didn’t include Shengzai, Two-Faced Sōna assumed it was simply because Shengzai wasn’t present here.
