Chapter 97: Enhanced Tyrannomon

~6 min read 1,040 words

What’s that Shengzai guy doing flying so high?

Seeing Shengzai stop midair atop his toy dragon at a hundred meters, confused Takemichi again turned to his “expert” companion and asked.

But this time, Fukumitsu Megumi didn’t answer, because he didn’t know what Shengzai intended to do.

Earlier, when Shengzai had summoned his dragon-shaped shikigami to rise into the air, Fukumitsu had assumed Shengzai planned to retreat from the battlefield.

After all, if Shengzai took the two fingers of Sukuna away, the cursed spirits gathered here would naturally disperse quickly without the high-grade cursed object to draw them.

But before he could voice his opinion, Fukumitsu realized Shengzai’s strange behavior didn’t look like a retreat at all.

“Takemichi, get far away quickly! There are too many cursed spirits—killing them one by one is too slow. I’m going to use my ultimate move now!”

Hearing Shengzai’s shout from above, Takemichi and Fukumitsu froze for a moment; before Takemichi could react, Fukumitsu’s shikigami, Nue, grabbed the still-dazed boy with one claw and flew him to the rooftop of another classroom building.

As for Fukumitsu himself, with the help of his two Jade Dogs, he leaped swiftly across the rooftops, evacuating from the danger zone Shengzai had warned about at maximum speed.

The overwhelming power of the “Weihuo Hu” and “Kangjin Long” shikigami had already convinced Fukumitsu of Shengzai’s strength.

Though he didn’t know what Shengzai meant by “ultimate move,” it was surely some powerful technique.

So rather than stay and get in the way, it was better for them to retreat to safety and give Shengzai room to operate.

Watching Fukumitsu’s swift and efficient reaction, Shengzai in the air couldn’t help but smile faintly.

No wonder he’s the most reliable man in sorcery, next to Nanami.

“Alright, allies have withdrawn. Sasaki-senpai and Ikaguchi-senpai should’ve left this building too.”

“Now, let’s test just how strong I am right now—using these cursed spirits as targets!”

At first, Shengzai planned to concentrate his cursed energy in his feet and emulate a certain stylish goddess with a devastating aerial kick.

But then he realized that while a kick’s destructive power was immense, it was better suited for a boss with concentrated defenses.

He was already skilled in hand-to-hand combat, and with his current cursed energy strength and the advantage of falling from the air, that kick might even kill a high-grade cursed spirit outright—even without a domain.

Unfortunately, his opponents weren’t high-grade cursed spirits, but numerous low-grade ones; using such a move might not wipe them all out, and could even destroy the entire building.

After a moment’s hesitation, Shengzai ultimately decided to use Plan B.

Shengzai extended one hand forward; as the surrounding temperature surged dramatically, a fireball began swelling visibly in his palm!

At first, the fireball in his palm was about the size of a soccer ball, but soon it expanded geometrically like an inflating balloon, reaching a diameter of two meters.

The fireball in Shengzai’s hand wasn’t a sorcery technique—it was his ability from the Digital World.

During their last ability-sharing session in the Dream Realm, Gomamon had already evolved into a Champion-level Tyrannomon.

The fireball now in Shengzai’s hand was Tyrannomon’s ultimate move: “Super Flame.”

The orange fireball, five meters in diameter, was held aloft by Shengzai’s single hand—its volume now larger than Shengzai himself.

But this wasn’t the limit; as Shengzai poured cursed energy into the “Super Flame,” the already two-meter-wide fireball swelled again like it had been injected with steroids.

Three meters, four meters, five meters—when the massive fireball reached five meters in diameter and Shengzai held it above his head, even from a hundred meters up, Takemichi and Fukumitsu far below could see it clearly.

The intense heat radiating from the fireball made the surrounding air feel scorching, and since it was midnight, the fireball hovering in midair looked like a miniature sun.

“Fukumitsu, are all sorcerers really this powerful?”

Compared to the shikigami and martial arts before, the sheer scale of Shengzai’s fireball now stunned Takemichi far more.

Since he’d never met any other sorcerers, and seeing both Shengzai and Fukumitsu summon shikigami and use martial arts, he’d assumed all “sorcerers” were like this.

But faced with Takemichi’s question, Fukumitsu didn’t know how to answer—because even he couldn’t figure out what kind of monster Shengzai was!

Powerful shikigami, impressive martial skill, physical prowess—and now this astonishing fire technique!

Logically, most sorcerers specialize in only one technique, right?

It’s not that sorcerers can master only one technique, but most need to spend enormous time and energy to refine even one technique to a high level.

Not everyone is Sukuna, the King of Curses, with the talent and time to learn and master other techniques.

Shengzai’s age is roughly the same as theirs; his shikigami’s combat power is already incredible, yet his martial skill and physical condition are equally outstanding.

Fine, his martial skill is impressive—after all, techniques and martial arts are different; maybe he’s just naturally gifted in physical ability, like Takemichi.

But now, Shengzai has shown exceptional ability in techniques beyond his shikigami—Fukumitsu could only call him a beast!

“Kangjin Long, use Wind Control!”

Shengzai hurled the fireball, over five meters in diameter, from the sky; at the same moment, the Kangjin Long he rode circled in midair and summoned a powerful wind.

Kangjin Long, one of the Eastern Azure Dragon constellations, excels in wind manipulation. Here, no longer bound by the rules of the SAO game world, both “Weihuo Hu” and “Kangjin Long” could now unleash their full potential.

Wind fueled the fire, fire rode the wind—so when Shengzai’s five-meter-wide fireball struck the ground, the already terrifying flames became even more horrifying.

The instant the fireball hit, it was like a boulder crashing into a calm lake; the explosion’s firewave spread outward like ripples, swallowing every cursed spirit nearby.

Even from a great distance, Fukumitsu and Takemichi saw the cursed spirits, with nowhere to flee, reduced to ash in the flames, and felt the scorching heat waves rushing toward them, their faces filled with shock.
