Chapter 248. The Crafty Paladin

~8 min read 1,426 words

Watcher's Eyes was the only Epic skill in Issac's Arsenal. It wasn't actually a fallen titan ability but rather something he got from his experience while being corrupted.

Opponents seen by Issac would have their body and soul violently erupt in flames with the very fire that burned in his eye sockets.

This fire, powered by Issac's mana, was the same as Hellfire that demons of Wrath Hell could wield.

It couldn't be extinguished with normal mana. Although Holy Power was effective, you had to be swift in containing the fire.

For the High Paladin who had no idea about the skill, it was already too late. Like a dried old tree which caught a spark, silver flames burned Jacob's entire body midair.

"Noooo!" The paladin touched his chest and screamed, desperately channelling his holy power.

The flames flickered but didn't go out. The fire immediately turned his clothes to dust. The smell of flesh being roasted swept the air as Jacob fell to the ground.

The dark summoners quickly surrounded the High Paladin's body which was still burning. Seeing those silver flames made chills run down their spines.

''So that's the true strength of a fifth circler…" Minerva muttered.

With her vast array of spells, she'd thought she could put up a decent fight against opponents of such caliber. But the earlier battle in the air had made her reconsider.

All of this happened in less than a few minutes. She didn't even have the time to engage in the fight.

'I wonder when I can reach the fifth circle…' Minerva thought as Ash flashed beside her.

"Careful, he's not dead yet." Zevik and Isaac descended, closely watching the burning body of the paladin.

After a while, the silver flames finally died and a pile of ashes remained. There was a white cross necklace on top of it, seemingly unaffected by the fire.

"That's it? Is he really dead?" One of the summoners voiced and others looked closely again

Zevik grabbed the cross pendant and held it before his face. Neither him nor the Hell Knight could sense anything from it.

Actually, a miniscule amount of holy power still remained in the accessory and it was being stimulated by a foreign signal.

"I suppose we really caught him off guard." Ash loosened his frown and turned to the fifth circlers.

Minerva also turned her eyes away from the paladin's ashes.

"We should inform Master Jake about this." She bit one of her fingers. Just as she was about to use the communication technique, Zevik suddenly raised his hand.

"Wait." The assassin looked toward the sky and his eyes widened. "The sword!"

"What do you mean?"

"The sword of the paladin. It isn't an ordinary weapon. How could this pendant be intact while the sword burned to ashes?"

Tens of miles away, a lone longsword flew above the skies at an extreme speed. A yellow projection repeatedly flickered on top of it, silver fire still burning on it.

This was Jacob's true soul.

As a High Paladin of the Church of Light, he obviously had some means to save himself. Although his body was gone, he could still live in a vessel for a short period.

Once he reached the main diocese, the priests could help him form a new holy body. Although he wouldn't be a fifth, or even a fourth circler anymore, at least he could live.

"Thankfully, those fifth circlers were fooled by the fake presence I left in the pendant." Jacob patted his shoulder, finally extinguishing the last bits of the hellfire.

"That Hell Knight's skill is extremely dangerous. So many powerhouses had gathered to kill me… I must inform Joseph about this!"

Dungeon of Sins, early in the morning.

"Teehee~ This new batch of intruders aren't too shabby." Lena mischievously smiled, floating around a large viewing crystal with her eyes closed.

Many different groups of adventurers were currently resting at Wincester, the newly built town on the 15th floor. Among them, most were humans with quite a few beastkins and only some elves.

The adventurers who could reach until here were at least 1st circlers. However, there were some unranked individuals as well.

Prominent party leaders boasted strength at the 2nd circle, but those at the 3rd Circle could be counted on one hand.

The building of this town started about two weeks ago but it was already big enough to accommodate thousands of adventurers.

The main reason for this was due to Ruxa's genius strategy. After the monsters laid the foundation, she allowed adventurers to discover it.

These adventurers had always wanted a place to rest and regroup. So, they were immediately thrilled by the prospect of building a safe haven inside the dungeon.

With the help of Erin who spread the information to various parties through her blood slaves, Ruxa could acquire new manpower. That also made this 2nd Circle gorgon to temporarily come to terms with the vampire girl.

With the help of hundreds of adventurers, the construction of Wincester Town was completed within the last three days.

At present, there was a shortage of monsters in the dungeon. Getting free workers and keeping the adventurers busy at the same time - Ruxa had really killed two birds with one arrow.

"Ah~ I wonder how the master will reward me…" the gorgon dressed in a green one piece blushed, cupping her cheeks with both palms.

"Tsk, what reward? You nearly revealed your true form to that C-rank party yesterday!" Erin folded her arms beneath her breasts.

"If anything, the master should punish you instead!"

"Punish…" Fiona bit her lips, wearing a longing expression on her face.

Seeing her, Jasmine's beastly ears stood straight.

'Eek, this weirdo…' The panther girl hid behind the dungeon fairy who wasn't paying attention to the women in the living hall.

''What's she watching?'' Jasmine's collar bell chimed as she leaned her head toward the glowing crystal.

Just like Lena, she also placed her palm on it and closed her eyes. Immediately, a vivid scenery of an alleyway at Wincester appeared in her mind. At the same time, faint sounds were transmitted.

"Fuck~ Annhh!"

In the alleyway, an adventurer couple was openly making love. Young and inexperienced, they only lasted a few minutes, causing Lena to pout in dissatisfaction.

"Useless!"

As the scenery went blank, Jasmine opened her eyes, deeply gazing at the cute girl with translucent wings.

'Since when did this little fairy become such a pervert…?'

While the living hall was lively, Yunna, Amelia, Perry, Calliya and the twin priestesses were all gathered at Ariel's room.

At the moment, Rose and Elena were examining the fox woman's large belly.

"Lady Ariel, I can feel your child moving…"

"Hmm, she's been pregnant for more than four months. It should be about time," the dark elf commented, twirling her white hair.

'I wonder if master can make it back on that day…' This thought was shared by every woman in the room.

About twenty miles away from Driftin City, the first wave of monsters tore through the smaller settlements, guided by a dragon.

Jake sat on top of Yvonne, bored from fucking on the altar. Actually, he had captured some girls from the villages that came after Alediff City.

However, Jake hadn't done anything to them yet. There was a requirement of 9 innocent souls in the bloodline awakening ritual.

After asking the system assistant, Jake learned that these souls shouldn't have committed murder and had to be virgin. Any one who fulfilled that condition worked.

Jake could easily examine memories of someone lower ranked than him, so finding such people wasn't that difficult. As for why they were all girls, it was just his personal taste.

Currently, it was around five in the morning. The sun hadn't come out yet and the ground was wet with dew drops glistening in the moonlight.

"Looks like we're close." Jake got off from Yvvone's back and flew beside her.

The huge red dragon suddenly began shrinking. As her beastly features disappeared, her body morphed into a humanoid form.

"Should I…" Yvonne spoke, conjuring a fiery blade.

"Not now." Jake chuckled and patted her head.

Grabbing the dragon girl's waist, he pulled her closer and flew toward the distant city at a greater speed.

Below the two flying figures, the roars of hungry beasts mixed with the cries of more than a hundred thousand disembodied souls.

Pulled by thin invisible threads, these souls followed closely behind the demon lord in the air, overtaking the monsters.
