Chapter 31

~8 min read 1,488 words

Xie Qin rested his head on his hand, looking in her direction, "Good classmate."

Shen Li noticed his movement, turned her head, and glanced at him.

Xie Qin gave her a signal with his eyes.

Shen Li lowered her head and noticed the pen by her feet.

She bent down, picked it up, and handed it to him.

Xie Qin reached out and took it.

Less than ten minutes later, the pen was flicked to her feet again.

Master Xie: "Hey~"

Shen Li stopped her work, bent down, and picked it up for him again.

Xie Qin took it slowly, as if on purpose, holding his hand up until her arm felt a bit sore.

"If you do this again, I won't help you pick it up."

Xie Qin spoke to her slowly: "Why, good classmate? Do you have an issue with me?"

Shen Li: "You're doing this on purpose."

Xie Qin admitted it quite frankly; he was indeed doing it to tease her, "I am doing it on purpose. Are you going to hit me? I'm the boss of the school, do you dare hit me?"

"Be careful or I'll report you to the teacher for school bullying."

"..."

Shen Li tossed the pen to him, and Xie Qin caught it.

Xie Qin: "Why are you so fierce? Girls should be a bit more gentle."

She had never seen such a boring person.

This Thursday class was the one everyone wanted to skip the most. The head teacher stood guard at the door, afraid that halfway through the class, students would slip back to the dorms.

The spot-check team would also come to various classes from time to time to check attendance. If a class had too few people and didn't meet the attendance requirement, the head teacher would have their monthly performance bonus deducted.

So, they were very strict about this.

Sure enough, in a short while, the head teacher caught someone trying to sneak away.

In the class, Shen Li was almost the most worry-free student; ever since the day she reported to school, she was conscientious and never late.

Her daily task was to send messages to those who hadn't come to class.

As soon as class ended, people left in twos and threes, and soon the room was empty.

Shen Li was still packing her books.

Beside her, Xu Zhouyuan woke up first and kicked Zhou Mingyu's chair, startling him, "Damn, are you sick? You scared the hell out of me. What time is it... is class over?"

"Still sleeping? Class is over, big brother, planning to stay the night?"

Zhou Mingyu was a bit dazed from sleep, but that kick woke him up; he just couldn't open his eyes. He stretched and let out a comfortable "Ah."

"Brother Qin, what are we eating for lunch!"

As he turned his head, he saw Shen Li walking out of the classroom with her bag.

Zhao Zhouyuan followed Shen Li.

Several of them turned back, laughing.

Xu Zhouyuan started running his mouth again: "Brother Qin, has your charm faded? Sister-in-law doesn't seem to be familiar with you at all!"

Xie Qin grabbed a book from the table and threw it directly at him, "Damn it, I'm letting you talk too much nonsense."

"Shut your mouth."

The next day was Friday; there were basically no classes in the afternoon, only the morning was fully scheduled.

But Friday was also the day with the fewest people in class; only a dozen or so showed up. The head teacher basically turned a blind eye, and by the last period, most people chose to skip class and go back.

Tomorrow is the weekend, and most people's minds aren't on their studies.

The 8:00 AM classes made everyone feel listless. Zhao Zhouyuan had pulled an all-nighter reading a novel the night before, sleeping for less than four hours, and had been up since 7:00. She still had no energy when she got to the classroom.

The head teacher handed the attendance sheet to Zhao Zhouyuan, asking her to have those who came to class sign in every day. For those who didn't come, if they were late three times, they would call their parents.

After the head teacher posted the announcement in the group, more people started showing up for class.

Master Xie had also suddenly changed his ways; from the military training at the start of the semester to the first week of school, one could rarely see a shadow of Xie Qin.

Recently, he had been attending classes more and more diligently.

Zhao Zhouyuan took the registration book and turned to have Shen Li sign first.

Shen Li signed her name in the last column.

Zhao Zhouyuan: "Ruanruan, aren't you going back this weekend?"

When she asked this, Xie Qin and his group happened to walk in through the back door. Master Xie, who kicked the door open, had a lollipop in his mouth, hands in his pockets, looking arrogant and lazy as he pulled out a chair and sat down.

Shen Li slowly answered her, "Yeah, not going back."

"Well, that makes sense. Wuchuan is indeed quite far from Haishi. Then I won't keep you company this weekend."

Shen Li responded somewhat coldly: "Mm."

Zhao Zhouyuan got up to find others to sign. When it was finally Xie Qin's turn, she was a bit afraid, fearing he might suddenly lose his temper like last time.

However, thinking that their relationship had eased and wasn't as stiff as before, she gathered her courage and walked up to Xie Qin, "Xie Qin, sign here, you need to sign in."

"Where." Today, Master Xie was exceptionally easy to talk to.

"Here." Zhao Zhouyuan pointed with her finger to where he needed to sign, then handed him the pen.

Xie Qin took the pen without looking at her, signed his name with a flourish, and tossed the pen onto the table.

"Good classmate..."

"..."

Ignoring him?

"Good student."

"..."

Hiss.

"Shen Li!" Xie Qin stretched out his long legs and kicked her desk.

Only then did Shen Li respond, "Is something the matter?"

"Nothing, just calling you."

Shen Li: "..."

During class, Shen Li listened to the lecture, while Xie Qin played games for the whole period. When he wasn't playing, he would watch Shen Li beside him.

When the class ended, Shen Li got up to go to the restroom. Xie Qin suddenly got up too and followed behind her; Shen Li didn't notice.

Zhou Mingyu, Qiao Lang, and Xu Zhouyuan were playing cards. Seeing the person follow her out, they felt Xie Qin was beyond saving. Zhang Zixin didn't know how to play, so she sat beside Xu Zhouyuan, shopping on her phone for cosmetics.

Xu Zhouyuan: "What is Brother Qin doing? Following her even to the bathroom?"

Zhou Mingyu: "It's over, he's fallen in love."

When Shen Li came out of the restroom, she saw Xie Qin openly smoking in the school hallway, his back turned, hands resting on the railing, with a boy she hadn't seen before beside him.

The smoke around them wasn't very thick; the wind blew it away quickly.

Shen Li washed her hands at the sink.

The one talking to Xie Qin was Zhang Shanfeng, who had been in the same high school as Xie Qin. His brow bone was rugged, not as sharp and soft as Xie Qin's.

Back in high school, Xie Qin was the big brother, and Zhang Shanfeng was the second brother. They hadn't caused few troubles together in that high school.

Now that they were in junior college, it wasn't as strictly managed as high school, and these two still walked around Chengde University as they pleased.

Zhang Shanfeng's grades were a bit better than Xie Qin's. He had filled in the Computer Science Department blindly, and to his surprise, he actually got in.

The cutoff score for the Computer Science Department was higher than that of the Philosophy Department.

Xie Qin: "... Stop instigating me, I don't fight anymore."

The computer lab wasn't far, just in the classroom diagonally opposite the Philosophy Department's room, so he happened to run into him.

Zhang Shanfeng put his hand on Xie Qin's shoulder: "Really not coming? It's those idiots from the Civil Engineering Department at Beijing University of Technology. Remember Chen Sizhe? He was at the Fourth High School and even fought you for the position of boss. During the basketball game at the start of the semester, he almost made your brother crash into the basketball stand; he nearly lost his life."

"You even had a fight with him before. He's got Jiang Sixue now and spends his days bragging to others about the dirty business he does with her in bed."

Xie Qin was listless: "Forgot, no impression."

Zhang Shanfeng: "The one from the Fourth High School, the one you said was very pure, you two used to date..."
