Chapter 7: It's easy to do things in the dark, right?

~8 min read 1,427 words

Shen Li lowered her eyelids, her crow-feather-like long eyelashes casting a faint shadow: "Sorry, Teacher, I don't want to say."

Head Teacher: "If you have unspeakable difficulties and don't want to say, then forget it."

"I'm going to hold a class meeting in a bit. I want you to be the class monitor, and you can swap with Zhao Zhouyuan; she'll be the vice class monitor."

Shen Li still felt some resistance in her heart: "Teacher, I don't want to be the class monitor."

From elementary school to high school, Shen Li had always been the class monitor, the top of the grade, the top of the class—it had always been her.

But who would have thought that the excellent student who was once highly expected by teachers would fail those expectations and come to a third-rate vocational college.

"Then be the vice class monitor. There isn't much to do; just help the teacher call those students back to class, and keep an eye on things when I'm not here."

Shen Li raised her head, her eyes focused, feeling resistant: "I don't want to be the vice class monitor either."

The head teacher raised her voice a bit, probably because she had been rejected by her many times, and there was some impatience in her voice: "Shen Li! Can't you just help the teacher?"

"The school's Academic Affairs Office is checking the attendance. Look at them; our class has the fewest people coming to class."

"You're a good student; you know how to manage, and the teacher is very relieved to have you here."

Shen Li: "I don't want to, Teacher."

The head teacher completely ignored her chance to refuse: "That's decided. Go to class. I'll send the news about you being the vice class monitor to the class group in a bit, and you can join the class group while you're at it."

"Your daily task is to call students to class, and Zhao Zhouyuan will be with you."

Sigh!

Shen Li sighed secretly in her heart.

Zhao Zhouyuan was an administrator in the class group. She was squatting in the restroom playing with her phone and was the first to receive the message from the class group.

Shen Li wasn't in the group.

"Softie, that's great."

"Finally, someone is with me to catch the attendance rate."

Shen Li frowned.

On the highway to the resort.

Xu Zhouyuan was driving, and Zhang Zixin happened to be playing with her phone when the message from the class group popped up. She rolled her eyes at the message: "I'm truly speechless."

Xu Zhouyuan held the steering wheel and was driving seriously: "Wife, what's wrong?"

Zhang Zixin: "News from the class group."

Xu Zhouyuan smiled and said: "Class group? What are you adding that thing for?"

Zhang Zixin: "A Zhao Zhouyuan who catches me to go to class every day is annoying enough."

"Now there's another Shen Li as vice class monitor, and she's in my dormitory. If these two catch me together, how am I supposed to live?"

"This Zhao Zhouyuan is a lunatic; I couldn't stand her, so I moved out."

Xie Qin: "Add me."

Xu Zhouyuan was driving and looked at the rearview mirror amusedly: "Brother Qin, early in the morning, if you haven't woken up, should we nap for a bit?"

Song Yuewei, who was leaning on Xie Qin, was woken up. She rubbed against him and adjusted her posture to continue sleeping.

Last night they opened a hotel room, and a few of them played games in the hotel all night. Song Yuewei also accompanied him to play games all night, not sleeping for a night…

It just happened to be the weekend, so they thought about going to a nearby resort to play. Anyway, there was nothing to do.

(Zhang Zixin invited 'Dream of Three Thousand Girls' to the group.)

Xu Zhouyuan also brought Xie Qin into the group.

Immediately after, the head teacher suddenly sent another message that shocked everyone: Classmates, classmate Shen Li is a very excellent good student. I hope that in the next three years of university, everyone can get along well. If you have any questions about the subjects, you can ask classmate Shen Li.

Xie Qin skipped the group announcement and all that nonsense.

He read the paragraph about Shen Li carefully.

Xu Zhouyuan also glanced at it and smiled: "Ask the person who is last in the whole class?"

"This head teacher is really interesting."

…

Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, it was Sunday.

Zhao Zhouyuan's home was in the neighboring county. After class on Friday, she took a bus back and wouldn't be back until Monday. Shen Li was the only one in the dormitory.

In this university, the scenery was considered good. The artificial lake in front was flanked by a playground track, which was the favorite place for college couples to come.

In the afternoon dusk, the sky was dyed with a touch of rosy clouds, shining on this lake, and the lake surface was sparkling.

Shen Li sat quietly on the long stone bench, her eyes dull, looking at the distance, holding a plastic bag in her hand, which contained two barrels of instant noodles.

On the phone beside her was the 'sister's' Moments update.

"I'm really so happy. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for taking me to Antarctica to see the aurora. I feel like I'm the happiest child in the world."

"Wish Mom and Dad good health, love me forever! May our family never be separated!"

…

Shen Li looked quietly at the lakeside, her eyes blank, not knowing how long she had been sitting there in a daze.

The sky had darkened unknowingly, and there was no one on the playground.

She returned to the dormitory, touched the switch on the wall, and found the light didn't turn on.

She remembered that Zhao Zhouyuan had reminded her on Friday after school that there was no money in the electricity card, and she had forgotten to top it up.

All her cash had been spent on toiletries, so she could only go withdraw it tomorrow. The phone she used was an old-fashioned button phone that had long been phased out; it could only insert a card to make calls and send messages. Other than that, it had no entertainment functions. Her mother had bought it for her when she was young, fearing she would play games and delay her studies.

Just then, the door was suddenly opened.

The few people standing at the door were directly startled: "Damn!"

"Who is it! Pretending to be Sadako in the middle of the night, trying to scare someone to death!"

It was Xu Zhouyuan's voice.

Zhang Zixin hurriedly used her phone to turn on the flashlight and saw the person sitting in the seat: "Shen Li? Why aren't you turning on the light in the dormitory?"

Shen Li looked over slowly, surprised, and said apologetically: "Sorry, there's no money in the electricity card, I forgot to top it up, I didn't know you would come back." Her voice was very light and soft.

Such a soft voice made Xu Zhouyuan, who had just been startled, lose his temper instantly.

This was the girls' dormitory.

Shen Li didn't know how they got in. Later, she realized that in the entire dormitory building, it seemed she was the only one still living on campus, and others had already gone back on the weekend.

The induction light in the corridor was on, and she saw the tall figure of Xie Qin at a glance. His presence was hard not to notice.

"I think it's the vice class monitor, she must have calculated it, knowing Brother Qin was coming, so she deliberately did this. It's easy to do things in the dark, right?"

Shen Li didn't respond; they had always been like this, with no proper conduct.

Zhang Zixin took the electricity card. "You guys sit for a while, I'll go top it up."

"Ah, I remember, I don't have cash. Baby, do you have cash?" Zhang Zixin asked Xu Zhouyuan. In this school, cash was used to top up electricity.

Xu Zhouyuan felt his wallet and opened it. Inside were his ID card and a few bank cards. "I stopped using cash hundreds of years ago."

"Brother Qin, can I borrow some?"

Just then, Xie Qin slowly took out a black leather wallet from his pocket and took out a thick stack of red banknotes for her… ===== CHAPTER 8 =====
