Chapter 138: Knocking People Into the Sky
The Oracle candidly admitted that she and her bodyguard Sai Ruofu are not humans.
Neo's expression was somewhat bewildered, more so helpless; he and Morpheus both regarded the 'Oracle' as humanity's hope.
Who would have thought the Oracle is actually a segment of code in the Matrix world—this is quite absurd!
The audience in the venue felt their brains were burning.
"What is the Oracle, a virus born in the Matrix system?"
"Why would she help humans?"
"There must be a conspiracy!"
"Can't it just be a twist like this, with the Oracle as the big villain?"
The last time I saw two identical characters on the silver screen was in Cheng Long's elder brother's《Twin Dragons》.
Inside the ship, Neo's real body twitched and jerked.
Neo swung the steel pipe—either smashing people into the wall or launching them into the sky—his lethality instantly surged, and the scene became ever more spectacular.
The communications officer said, "He doesn't look like an agent."
The Oracle then cleared his doubts: "Just like those birds, at certain points we write programs to control them, and also write programs to control the trees' movement, the wind blowing, the sunrise and sunset. Everything in this world is controlled by programs."
Inside the Matrix, Neo resisted Smith's 'assimilation' with his own strength.
"Holy shit, they're almost identical!"
"Programs robbing programs?" Neo looked bewildered, "Why?"
Neo struck swiftly with a flurry of punches and kicks.
Just as he stepped forward, someone tapped his shoulder; turning his head, he saw yet another Smith.
Each of them spoke a line in the same tone and continuity, as if all the Smiths present were merely bodies, with a single soul wandering between them and speaking.
Neo, off guard, still had his steel pipe knocked away; he dodged through the crowd but was eventually pressed to the ground.
Trinity and the others worried, not knowing what had happened to Neo, wanting to believe that the outcome would soon be clear.
Smith grew more and more agitated, surprising Neo when another Smith suddenly appeared and walked toward him, naturally continuing the sentence.
Immediately, more and more Smiths walked toward Neo.
A 'Smith' was knocked flying and fell to the ground, saying if there were more people, immediately more and more people came running, opening the door and rushing in.
At this moment, the big screen seemed to show countless Smiths.
"You've certainly heard this before: it's whenever someone says they saw a devil or an angel. Every time you hear about vampires, werewolves, or aliens, it means the system is absorbing their programs, making them do things they shouldn't."
However, this 'key‑maker' was kidnapped by an early advanced program; he is called 'Merowenjia'.
A computer‑savvy audience member thought, 'He also needs "admin" privileges to delete hostile programs!'
On the screen, before leaving, the Oracle said the most important words: to save Zion, one must reach the source.
Just then a girl passing by saw the scene before her and was so frightened that the food in her hand fell.
If Neo wants to delete hostile programs, he must go to the giant computer, i. e., the system core.
"Yes, you must go there, and there clear your hostile programs!"
Neo was hit off‑guard and flew backward.
His head shook, and he turned into another agent's likeness.
"That is the giant computer?"
This dialogue of the two was truly somewhat hard to understand for people in China in 2002, especially those with little computer knowledge.
Just as the door through which the Oracle left closed, a heavy‑pressure background music began.
Hu Bei then said: "It's too wonderful; this shot is a bit like the one in《Kung Fu》!"
"It's so realistic, you can't see any flaws!"
In the end, Neo could only choose to believe.
Seeing this, those 'Smiths' all lunged forward.
But the more important question is, how can we still believe the Oracle?!
The Oracle then candidly said, "That's up to you—judge for yourself whether to believe me or those words!"
Then she handed him a red candy, asking, "Want some candy?"
"Holy shit, this is too exaggerated!" Yuan Hong couldn't help but remark.
And other programs, you can always hear their voices.
Immediately she gave Neo an address, telling him to arrive at the designated time, saying "Good luck, kid" before leaving.
And when a virus program faces system deletion, it can hide in the system folder.
Neo's subconscious reply—over on the ship, Morpheus and the others were staring at the green alphanumeric data on the computer.
"Why delete a program?"
Neo said: "I've never heard of that!"
"They each have their own reasons, but when a program faces deletion, they usually choose exile."
On the big screen, Neo could hardly hold his own; after being slammed into the wall, he casually pulled up a steel pipe from the ground.
"Maybe it was sabotaged, maybe it was replaced by a better new program! Whenever this happens, a program can choose to come here to hide, or return to its source."
However, due to technical issues, the filmed effect looks somewhat fake.
Just as he pulled out the opposing hand, several other hands pressed onto his shoulders.
Those programs, each doing their duty and loyal to their posts, are invisible; you can't even ever feel their presence.
Neo turned his head and saw the black pigeons that had been in the square all take flight; the bald‑headed Yuan De, playing Smith, dressed in a black suit, sunglasses, and shiny leather shoes, walked over.
The so‑called vampires and werewolves are viruses—one can directly infect ordinary files (humans), the other can easily destroy or delete (kill) ordinary files.
In Stephen Chow's《Kung Fu》, the shot of knocking people into the sky is borrowed from this scene in《The Matrix Reloaded》.
But being good at computer games makes it easier to understand; that is, in this virtual world called the Matrix.
But then the bald-headed Yuan De, playing Smith, suddenly attacked, thrusting his hand straight into Neo's chest, and black substance spread from his hand.
Then the two started saying things like "Do you know whether I will eat or not?", "If you don't know, then I'm not the Oracle", "But you already know, so how would I choose?" and other rather tongue-twisting lines.
His purpose in coming here was only one: to take Neo's life.
However, in this world, because 'Kung Fu' was filmed first, Zhou Xingxing hasn't seen it, and Jiang Heng hasn't mentioned it, so although the male lead fights the axe gang, nobody gets sent flying into the sky.
Especially when Ma You and the daredevil appear together in dialogue, their gazes never meet.
People piled up into a small hill, pressing Neo down firmly underneath.
To reach the source, one must obtain the help of the Keymaker.
He casually swung and hit one of the Smiths that had rushed over.
The Oracle's answer is that by coming you have already made a choice; you just want to know why you made that choice, which still sounds somewhat philosophical.
After getting up and knocking away several Smiths, he didn't expect that as soon as the door opened, more and more Smiths would rush in.
The camera turns, and Smith keeps talking, explaining the relationship between him and Neo: I killed you, you killed me.
At this moment, the interlude is somewhat like Mission: Impossible, all being of that intense kind, and Neo handles it fairly easily.
The audience speculates and discusses, and Neo is also speculating.
The camera looks down from above, but see the Smiths swarming forward, only for Neo to easily resolve it.
But he still has many doubts.
This Smith easily assimilates the agent, and together they charge into the battlefield.
Even the actors in the guest seats were shocked by the scene before them.
He has now been deleted by the system, no longer an agent, and has gained independent consciousness.
The cement that was brought up shattered, becoming a handy weapon.
"Mr. Anderson, have you received my gift?" Smith called Neo by his work name.
"This is the inevitable ending!" one Smith said somewhat arrogantly.
Immediately, a famous scene in film history was born: the 'human-shaped hill' was blown up, and a gang of Smiths flew into midair.
Neo ultimately flew away like Superman!
