Chapter 232: with translation of chapter title

~8 min read 1,435 words

In 2005, China's military weapons were not yet that advanced, yet this did not hinder some compatriots' yearning for high-precision modern weapons.

Mechs are indeed somewhat sci-fi.

But it seems that drones and robot dogs could actually be realized.

Many people stared wide-eyed at the drones and robot dogs' battlefield performance in the film.

Some excited audience members said, "Director Jiang should hand over his design drawings to the state; maybe then they could be researched!"

All Director Jiang drew was the appearance; it probably isn't of much use, right?

It's also a kind of idea, though!

On the big screen, swarms of robot dogs and drones flooded the sky, continuously strafing the two monsters.

Although the two monsters aren't hurt, their intelligence is still somewhat inferior to humans'.

They should just do what they're supposed to do and ignore these disturbances, yet they stopped and launched a full-scale battle.

A single swipe of its massive claw can smash several drones, and lifting a leg can kick away multiple robot dogs.

Its tail can sweep sideways, and the sprayed venom corrodes.

The two monsters are annihilating these unmanned weapons with extreme efficiency, yet they can't withstand the overwhelming numbers rushing in.

Inside, a scholar's eyes lit up: "At the end of the day, isn't this just a contest of industrial strength? With China's scale, once its industry is developed, no one can match it!"

Someone nearby said, "I think if Director Jiang could make a futuristic war film, it would also be great to watch!"

I heard Lao Han say there's such an idea, called something "Lian", and they're all super-powered soldiers!

No matter what they're called, they're all super-powered warriors!

Or maybe we should film more futuristic weapons; just watching them gets the blood pumping!

On the big screen, inside Busan's secret base, two giant mechs set sail.

It still follows the first film's "meet-up" style: night, rain, a huge transport plane flying while being hoisted.

Actually, shooting this way isn't just to save on special effects costs; it's also related to the story's style.

This kind of film about giant monsters descending to destroy the world already has a bit of an apocalyptic style, so dark skies and rainy nights fit the atmosphere well with the story.

Just like the visual style of supernatural and horror films, which are gloomy and eerie.

If you swapped it for a big sunny day, that atmosphere would disappear.

Pacific Rim 2 completely flopped, and this is also a reason.

The atmosphere was great in the first film, but in the second, several major battle scenes took place in bright sunshine, instantly cutting down the apocalyptic vibe.

It's like under a big sun, there's a person wearing a hat and a black cloak, with fangs, claiming to be a European vampire count who wants to drain everyone's blood in the city.

How would the people around react?

They'd definitely think you're crazy!

At night, it might actually scare people, but during the day everyone would just think you're cosplaying.

Moreover, the original Pacific Rim 2 has another important problem: too much screen time is devoted to infighting among the mechs, while the monsters get too little exposure, leaving the audience initially bewildered and feeling no sense of pressure.

The problem is that audiences expect to see mechs battling monsters in this film; since that isn't delivered, they'll surely curse it out loud.

This version, directed by Jiang Heng, puts more thought into the battle scenes than the plot, with fewer conspiracies and scheming—just get straight to the action!

Xianggang, the Skydome Hunter Mech Base.

General Huo gazed sternly at Huang Xiaoming and Liu Yifei before him, saying, "Your support this might not even reach the battle before it's over!"

"We should also develop a sixth-generation light mech, cutting deployment time in half!" Huang Xiaoming muttered.

General Huo's eyes bulged, looking very intimidating.

"You don't understand; the sixth-generation light mech is just a sham put out by the arms giants of the US, Japan, etc., to make more profit."

They thought closing the passage would let them rest easy and make money safely, but they never expected the monsters to arrive so fast. The Tango Wolf II couldn't even last twenty minutes.

Huang Xiaoming and Liu Yifei remained silent, and after a few seconds Liu Yifei said, "We understand!"

"Return safely!"

"Okay, Dad!"

Liu Yifei and Huang Xiaoming strode toward the mech's cockpit.

Gao Xiong, who plays General Huo, stands there gazing at his daughter's back, his eyes full of worry.

An audience member sighed, "This old man probably opposes the sixth-generation mech because he fears it isn't safe enough and could endanger his daughter's life."

"That's possible!"

"But speaking of that Tango Wolf, it's also too fragile in combat!"

As the audience chatted, Liu Yifei and Huang Xiaoming had already changed into pilot uniforms and arrived at the mech's cockpit, which still used the old-style joystick linkage.

After the hatch closed, the full view of the cockpit was revealed—a huge, red, helmet-shaped steel giant.

Then the cockpit plummeted rapidly, clanking as it connected with the equipment below.

Afterward, the hundred-meter-tall giant mech seemed to come alive, its arms, legs, and feet moving in sequence.

The audience then realized that this "Storm Crimson Red (Upgraded Version)" was entirely red, heavy and stout, wielding a huge hundred-meter-long miaodao, resembling a mighty iron general.

"Holy cow, this mech design is too cool!"

"It's so huge, it feels even more formidable than the previous Hazardous Wanderer!"

"I feel it could take on two Tango Wolves at once!"

As the audience chatted, the Storm Crimson Red on the big screen was already being lifted by eight giant transport planes and flown to Japan.

At the foot of Mount Fuji, the two monsters' feet were surrounded by piles of drones, helicopters, and robot dog corpses, stretching far and wide, making viewers' scalps tingle.

At the Tokyo base, Aso Jiro watched the footage sent back on screen, his face a picture of grief.

"How much longer until they arrive?"

"Three minutes left? The problem is we've run out of drones and robot dogs; if we can't keep them restrained, those two will soon be able to climb Mount Fuji."

Asa Jirou closed his eyes, "Order the Ground Self-Defense Forces to go up, we must contain them!"

Hi!

The soldiers who had been watching the battle from afar were already scared stiff by the gruesome scene; not running was already good military discipline.

Upon hearing the commander order them to die, someone immediately protested.

The officer on the scene shot one, then ordered the rest to step forward.

The soldiers, helpless, grit their teeth and opened fire as they advanced.

As a result, the two monsters turned and charged; in an instant they killed a large number, and the remaining soldiers, seeing this, turned and fled, some even dropping their guns.

However, the monsters turned and continued running toward Mount Fuji, when suddenly a booming sound came from above; the camera panned, and it turned out two tall mechs were being flown in, suspended by a huge transport aircraft.

On the ground, the two monsters, one lunged fiercely, leaping into midair and swinging its claw to strike the left mech.

Inside the cockpit, Meigen Fukesi and a white young man playing the mech pilot hurriedly raised their arms, and the mech raised its arms in sync to block this fierce strike.

The problem was that the mech was suspended in midair by the transport plane; the monster's lunge grabbed the mech and they both fell to the ground, rolling and knocking down countless trees.

The several transport planes connected to the mech were dragged down and crashed, exploding one after another, shooting up flames into the sky.

The remaining several transport planes, carrying another mech, rushed out of the fire produced by the explosion, intending to land.

Another monster that had been charging for a long time suddenly opened its mouth and spat a stream of blue liquid, which directly hit the torso of another mech; the mech's torso was instantly corroded into a large hole, exposing the internal mechanical devices, some of which still sparked with electricity.

The monster then lunged again, its huge claw directly aiming at the large hole corroded by the strong acid, and it pierced straight through the mech.

Inside the cockpit, smoke and fire rose everywhere; the two pilots inside were dazed, completely unsure what to do.

The audience at the venue also felt dazed; the plot started off this intense, the monsters are kinda fierce!
