Chapter 518: with translation of chapter title
The expedition team's main objectives are three: first, to prove that the "super-space jump" technology truly exists, which has already been proven.
When the Dijiang first reported back to base after jumping near Jupiter, it transmitted the photos taken at that time back to Earth.
Moreover, after jumping past Pluto, it also transmitted back a large number of photos taken along the way.
Because once the spacecraft flies out of the solar system, it is unlikely to maintain stable communication with Earth.
Second, to find a planet inhabited by extraterrestrials and obtain large amounts of visual and physical data.
According to Tuogelanmu's description, the technological level of the vast majority of planetary civilizations in the universe is at the stage of cold weapons or firearms, posing no threat to the expedition team; the real danger comes from celestial bodies, black holes, and other matter in the universe.
Third, to seek special minerals on various planets, such as a metal similar to vibranium; if large quantities could be mined, it would inevitably bring earth-shaking changes to Earth's technology.
The Dijiang performed another "space jump"; after a shudder, Wu Jing and the others looked out the window again to find themselves in a completely new region of space.
Looking back at the solar system behind them, it resembled a raw egg without its shell, wrapped in a thin, almost transparent membrane.
"Is that the legendary solar system barrier?" the female reporter played by Reba exclaimed upon seeing the image on the display.
"That must be it; it's said to be composed of a large amount of hydrogen atoms. If we used the previous spacecraft, we'd die of old age before we could fly out of the solar system!"
"It's truly amazing—there actually exists space-jump technology, and it's so simple; earlier humans never discovered it!"
Wu Jing laughed, "It's not that they didn't discover it; perhaps our ancestors, when conducting experiments, met with accidents and died!"
Reba nodded in agreement, because although the Luokesulan resemble humans somewhat, their physiological differences are actually very large.
Perhaps because they began interstellar travel early, their bodies are better suited to various harsh environments; even in high radiation, low temperature, or oxygen-deficient conditions, they suffer little effect.
When discussing this, Wu Jing sighed, "I used to doubt evolution, but after seeing those Luokesulans, I suddenly find it quite convincing!"
Reba asked, "Do you think humans will eventually become like them?"
"What's wrong?"
"They're hideous!"
As the two were speaking, the spacecraft shuddered again, and the pilot suddenly said, "No, not good—we seem to have jumped into the asteroid belt!"
Wu Jing shouted, "How are you flying this thing!"
The pilot defended himself, "The Luokesulans' star chart has no special markings in this direction!"
Wu Jing glanced at his watch and said solemnly, "The second jump will occur in ten minutes; we must ensure we don't collide with any celestial body, or we're all done for!"
At the same time, the scene switched to show numerous small celestial bodies hurtling toward them; the Dijiang was like a rat racing against traffic on a highway, constantly dodging left and right.
In the dire situation, the captain played by Wu Jing took the control stick, maneuvering the ship left and right, and managed to hold out until the Dijiang could perform another space jump—only to end up completely lost.
The spacecraft arrived at an unknown star system; after some probing, they discovered signs of life on several planets.
The Dijiang dared not venture too close to the star, ultimately selecting the farthest planet that showed signs of life.
Upon entering the atmosphere, they saw a world of ice and snow, with many medieval‑style castles dotting the ground.
"There won't be elves or orc‑like creatures here, will there?" Reba muttered, looking at the image on the display.
"Who knows—really, nothing would surprise me!"
Then they saw many soldiers rushing out of the castles, and furthermore many "women" forming a formation on the open ground before the castles, beginning to chant softly.
Wu Jing stared blankly at the screen and said in a deep voice, "This place couldn't be a magical civilization, could it?" As he spoke, countless streams of white vapor rose from the ground; the camera panned down to reveal a massive array of white cold air centered on the castle, extending a hundred li in all directions.
The Dijiang's display showed a blank white expanse, but its radar could detect countless ice chunks hurtling toward it.
"Pull the ship up quickly!" Wu Jing ordered.
The pilot hastily pulled the stick, and the Dijiang surged upward.
Yet inside the array, wind and snow raged, with innumerable giant ice blocks; despite the Dijiang lurching left and right, it was still struck by many ice chunks.
Fortunately, the spacecraft was made from the nation's most advanced aerospace materials; aside from the violent vibrations felt by those inside the cabin, it had suffered no other damage.
Inside the castle, Liu Yifei, making a cameo as the Ice Snow Queen, sat upon her throne, listening to her subordinates' report.
"I don't know what material that outside ship is made of, but our formation can't affect them at all!"
Liu Yifei said, "It seems they discovered some vibranium ore somewhere, built a ship, and came here to test its effectiveness!"
"What about us?"
In the one‑by‑one check, there is no mistaken version!
Liu Yifei snorted coldly, "Of course we're keeping them here—no matter whose ship it is, once it arrives here it belongs to me!"
"Long live the queen's wisdom!"
Then Liu Yifei rose to her feet, floating in midair; a deer‑like monster came running, she mounted it and rode out to the castle exterior, where she made a few gestures and chanted a spell.
The cold density within the array instantly increased several levels; a huge ice spike shot up from the ground, freezing the Dijiang at its tip.
Inside the cabin, everyone watched as the water in the bottles froze into ice, and speaking produced white mist.
"Quick, max out the ship's power—if we keep lowering the temperature we'll all die!" Wu Jing's deputy said.
The pilot fumbled with the controls; the Dijiang's twin rear fire nozzles erupted in intense flames, merely melting some ice at the tail, while the cabin temperature stopped dropping further.
"Make it bigger, open it wider!"
"Open the forward flame nozzles too!" Wu Jing roared.
The officer in charge of ship‑borne weapons, upon hearing this, finally reacted and opened all the ship's flame nozzles.
Scorching flames spewed out, quickly melting the solid ice.
Wu Jing then ordered, "Ram our way out!"
The pilot obeyed, saying, "Actually we can now perform a space jump!"
Wu Jing sneered, "They nearly killed us the moment we arrived; if we don't give her a lesson, they'll think we're easy prey!"
"Fire!"
Wu Jing ordered, and the Dijiang unleashed full firepower, pouring bullets down onto the troops below.
The Ice Snow Queen played by Liu Yifei let out a cold chuckle, "Not bad!"
With a flick of her slender jade hand, a massive ice shield condensed in midair, blocking every bullet fired from the Dijiang.
The spectators in the venue watched the lively scene, exclaiming: "Liu Tianxian played this ice-snow queen, how awesome!" (End of chapter)
