Chapter 108: You think my two legs can outrun a carriage?
Hearing the sound, Qiao Sheng sprang to her feet and ran toward the direction it came from; upon arriving, she saw two young men climbing onto the carriage, preparing to drive it away from here.
And Shi Jin?
Qiao Sheng's gaze fell on the carriage.
She stepped forward to block the carriage, gesturing as she said: "Did you see a little boy? He's about this tall, he's fairly pale, with big eyes, wearing..."
As soon as she spoke, the two young men seated in front of the carriage knew she was looking for Shi Jin.
The young man holding the reins shouted irritably: "I didn't see him. Get out of the way, don't block our road, or don't blame me for being rude!"
That's a big reaction.
Qiao Sheng narrowed her eyes and said: "I suspect he's on your carriage."
As soon as she said that, the faces of both the two young men outside and the three inside the carriage changed.
"You're asking for a beating!"
The young man who had shouted at Qiao Sheng earlier swung a whip at her.
Qiao Sheng reached out and grabbed the whip the young man had swung at her; without waiting for him or the young man beside him to react, she pulled hard, dragging him down.
"Lowlife, you're courting death!"
The other young man seated in front of the carriage jumped down.
Qiao Sheng wasn't sure she could match them, but Shi Jin was likely on that carriage—how could she let them take him?
Fortunately, these young men knew little martial arts.
It didn't take long for Qiao Sheng to knock them to the ground, where they clutched the spots she'd hit and moaned.
The young man on the carriage grew uneasy; he seized Shi Jin and popped out from inside, shouting: "Don't come over—if you dare, I'll choke him to death right now!"
Qiao Sheng was wondering what to do.
Shi Jin's voice came from opposite: "You woman, why are you just looking? Hit him—he wouldn't dare choke me to death; if he did, he'd have to pay with his life!"
He had figured it out: they wanted to sell him.
They're after money—how could they dare kill someone?
Qiao Sheng thought Shi Jin made sense, so she walked toward them.
The young man holding Shi Jin couldn't hold on; he shoved Shi Jin toward Qiao Sheng, then the carriage driver took off.
The other young men hurried after them.
Seeing Qiao Sheng still holding him, Shi Jin said: "Put me down and chase them!"
"You think my two legs can outrun a carriage?"
Qiao Sheng set Shi Jin down, then took him to the yamen to report the incident; such matters are best left to the yamen.
Leaving the yamen.
After walking a distance, Qiao Sheng noticed Shi Jin hadn't kept up; turning, she saw him walking slowly behind her and stopped, asking: "Tired from running? Can't walk anymore?"
"I, I'm hungry."
Shi Jin whispered while holding his stomach.
Qiao Sheng scooped Shi Jin up and headed forward, found a noodle shop, got him a bowl of plain noodles, and also had the shop owner fry an egg for him.
The owner had just set it down.
Qiao Sheng pushed the bowl over, placed a pair of chopsticks on it, looked up, and saw Shi Jin gazing at her.
She said: "Why are you staring at me? Eat! Think it's not good, don't want to eat?"
Shi Jin picked up the chopsticks and began eating quickly.
He hadn't finished yet.
Qiao Sheng went to pay.
Shi Jin bit his lip and said: "Didn't you say I could eat whenever I figured things out? Why did you bring me here for noodles and have him fry an egg for me?"
