Chapter 371: Someone Fell Into a Pit
371. Chapter 371: Someone Fell Into a Pit
"Hmm."
Qiao Sheng grabbed the brown sugar in the paper packet and put it into her mouth.
Zhang Meilan didn't leave; she and Qiao Sheng started chatting idly, while also scanning their surroundings.
Qiao Sheng now was even more convinced that this woman was problematic.
Send her away.
Qiao Sheng stood at the doorway, peeking outside through the crack, and saw Zhang Meilan and Jing Jizong walking out. She narrowed her eyes, slipped through a window, and quietly followed them.
Not long after.
Qiao Sheng saw them heading toward a corner.
Make sure no one was around.
Qiao Sheng crept closer, and as the distance shrank, she heard Zhang Meilan say, "Master, that medicine, that damned girl has already taken it. Should we inform Lei Ming now, or tell him later?"
"What's the hurry? Let's wait until she faints,"
Jing Jizong replied.
Are they really her biological parents?
Qiao Sheng grew even more suspicious.
She could never be what they want.
She racked her brain.
Qiao Sheng decided to leave this home.
She returned to her room.
Qiao Sheng went to a side cabinet and began sorting her clothes; she didn't know what she had until she started, then realized she owned only a few garments, let alone any money.
How could she go without food?
Qiao Sheng went to the kitchen and took a few steamed buns she hadn't finished at noon before she left.
When she came out,
Jing Tao happened to walk out of the room they were staying in; fortunately she reacted quickly and immediately turned back into the kitchen.
Just as she was about to exit the kitchen again,
a sound came from outside.
It was the voices of Jing Tao and Zhang Meilan talking.
"Mother, you… "
Jing Jizong cut him off: "We'll talk later."
Qiao Sheng thought it was bad, glanced around, slipped out through a window, and headed straight for the back door.
By the time Jing Jizong and the others realized she was gone,
she had already fled out the back door.
Within less than half a minute of running out, Qiao Sheng saw Jing Jizong and the others had already caught up; they were surprisingly fast.
She feared they would capture her and take her back.
Qiao Sheng darted this way and that, fleeing toward the distant mountains.
Her body was indeed not what it used to be; she became breathless after only a short distance, yet she didn't give up and kept running.
She couldn't tell whether her luck was good or bad.
She hadn't even reached halfway up the mountain.
Qiao Sheng came across a wild boar that looked rather small; she didn't know if it had escaped on its own or was alone.
The boar, upon seeing Qiao Sheng, charged at her.
Qiao Sheng hurriedly climbed a tree.
The boar circled the tree, and after a few rounds began ramming the trunk; fortunately the tree was sizable, so its force couldn't topple it, only made the tree sway.
It couldn't reach Qiao Sheng.
The boar lingered there for a while before leaving.
When Qiao Sheng saw it had gone far, she quickly descended and left.
Because.
She was moving fast and didn't watch her footing, and soon fell into a pit a few feet deep.
Fortunately there were no sharp bamboo sticks below.
Otherwise,
she'd probably have been stuck like a wasp's nest.
Qiao Sheng struggled to rise; the moment her right foot touched the ground, a piercing pain shot through it. Staring at a pit twice her own height, she felt completely helpless.
How could she be this unlucky!
She wanted to shout but feared attracting beasts.
She weighed her options.
Qiao Sheng sat down and began waiting.
Since someone dug such a pit here, they would surely come to check.
She waited for several hours.
As the sun was about to set, still no one arrived.
Qiao Sheng couldn't help but grow anxious; if a wolf came at night, she'd be doomed.
She could think of nothing else and shouted at the top of her lungs.
"Help! Someone fell into a pit…"
