573. Chapter 573: Let Him Take Part in the Selection

Xiao Shitou originally didn't want any throne.

But the emperor's decree gave him the throne.

If he didn't want it,

their country would fall into chaos.

He could only take over.

Shi Qing's feelings were the most complicated, and at the same time she felt relieved; fortunately Feng Hui did not say that Xiao Shitou was her son, otherwise, could the empress tolerate him staying alive?

Little did she know.

Feng Hui had actually guessed it, but he wasn't sure at all whether Xiao Shitou was their child.

However, for him it was no longer important.

He has now been sentenced to beheading, just awaiting death.

If it had been the case originally.

He must have been terrified, but now he isn't at all, because Qiao Sheng and the others promised him they wouldn't let anything happen to his family.

As soon as Xiao Shitou became emperor, he immediately made Shi Lin a Prince of Equal Rank; as for Qiao Sheng, he also gave her a title, and he likewise bestowed titles and rewards on all the other officials who had achieved merit.

San Bao was eating the snacks Xiao Shitou gave her, blinking her eyes as she asked him.

"Xiao Shitou big brother, have you really become emperor?"

"Hmm."

Xiao Shitou rubbed San Bao's head and said, "If you want snacks in the future, just come to my place; I'll have plenty."

San Bao's eyes instantly curved into crescent moons.

Er Bao said from the side, "Xiao Shitou big brother, what about me?"

"You and Da Bao are the same."

Xiao Shitou replied without any hesitation.

He originally wanted Qiao Sheng and the others to enter the palace and live with him, but how could their status allow that?

Finally.

Xiao Shitou thus decided to go home once every few days.

Xiao Shitou's age is about the same as Feng Hui's, so he is roughly seventeen this year; being emperor at that age, the harem naturally cannot lack women.

Just a few days after he ascended the throne, officials in court memorialized, urging him to hold a concubine selection.

Speaking of the selection,

Xiao Shitou thought of Yao Lingyu.

Over these years,

Yao Lingyu has always been good to him and likes him a lot.

Just that.

He doesn't have romantic feelings for her.

But if he must choose someone.

Xiao Shitou would actually prefer to choose her.

At least she's familiar, right?

When Xiao Shitou told Qiao Sheng about this.

She looked at him and asked, "Xiao Shitou, have you really decided? Do you know that Yu er likes you? If you marry her and then leave her hanging, that's absolutely unacceptable. In that case, you wouldn't be repaying kindness—you'd be taking revenge!"

Marrying her and then leaving her hanging.

Xiao Shitou is no longer the Xiao Shitou of before; he naturally understands Qiao Sheng's meaning.

"But…"

Qiao Sheng continued, "But what? You're not young either; it's time to find someone, or do you have someone you like?"

"Someone you like…"

Xiao Shitou's mind flashed with the image of San Bao.

He was completely stunned.

This.

How could this be possible.

San Bao is still so young.

When Xiao Shitou replied, he stammered, "Mother, I don't, I don't like anyone……

"Don't call me Mother; if outsiders hear, they'll talk about us."

Qiao Sheng said to Xiao Shitou.

Xiao Shitou felt a bit choked up: "I just want to call you Mother, when there's no one else around."

She couldn't win against him.

Qiao Sheng could only let him have his way.

Leaving Qiao Sheng's place.

Xiao Shitou didn't know where to go, walking and walking, when Yao Lingyu came: "Your Majesty."

Yao Lingyu had been raised well by Qiao Sheng, her skin fair and tender as if water could be wrung from it.

Upon seeing Xiao Shitou, she was very happy.

"Lingyu."

Xiao Shitou walked toward her.

Seeing that he only greeted himself and didn't say anything else, Yao Lingyu felt a bit sad.

Xiao Shitou waited a moment before speaking: "Yao Lingyu, do you have someone you like?"
