Chapter 57: Meeting Moved Up
"Who?"
The two female agents asked in unison.
No one answered outside the door.
Dang dang dong~
The knocking grew more urgent.
The two female agents exchanged a glance, grew wary, lifted their skirts, and swiftly drew their daggers.
They knew well that firing recklessly would ruin all their plans.
One of the female agents gripped her dagger reverse-handed, tiptoed, and cautiously walked to the door.
She then flung the door open, but there was no one outside; just as she was about to look left and right, a figure appeared before her.
The next second.
She felt a piercing pain in her abdomen, then her whole body flew backward, slammed heavily to the ground, her head lolled, and she fainted on the spot.
Chen Yongren immediately stepped inside, hooked the door with his toe, and closed it.
A man with two women—this kind of thing should be done behind closed doors.
Seeing this, the other female agent immediately raised her dagger in her right hand and stabbed at Chen Yongren.
Chen Yongren lightly sidestepped, dodging the blow, punched the dagger from her hand, then seized her right arm and gave her a shoulder throw.
A muffled 'Bang!' sounded.
The female agent was slammed hard onto the floor by Chen Yongren, pain bringing tears to her eyes, and her right arm was dislocated by him.
Before her scream could escape, Chen Yongren instantly clapped a hand over her mouth, swallowing her shout, and meanwhile grabbed her chin.
In just a few seconds, both female agents were laid flat on the ground.
Upon entering, Chen Yongren even found time to extend his perception, locking onto them.
After dealing with the two female agents, the system notification sounded.
But Chen Yongren was about to interrogate the female spy, and didn't bother with whatever reward the system gave.
As the saying goes, good things come in pairs; Chen Yongren kindly dislocated her other arm as well.
The female agent's cheeks flushed, she went limp on the ground, having lost the strength to struggle, like meat on a chopping board, left to Chen Yongren's mercy.
After confirming she carried no poison, Chen Yongren ran his hand along her thigh and pulled out a shotgun and a wooden-handled grenade.
This little vixen, with such a slim figure, still hides things quite well, huh?
Seeing Chen Yongren's slightly mocking gaze, the female agent felt both ashamed and angry, wishing she could devour his heart.
Yet, amidst her anger, she harbored a few doubts: his actions showed he knew her spy identity.
But how could this man see through her?
Chen Yongren first turned her over, then skillfully drew his waist belt, and in a few quick motions bound her hands and feet.
He also picked up the dagger from the floor, cut a strip from the bedsheet, and gave the unconscious female agent the same treatment, leaving them lying on the ground.
Looking at the unconscious female spy, Chen Yongren lifted his foot and kicked her in the abdomen.
A coughing fit sounded; the female agent on the right gradually woke, lifted her head to see a person sitting before her, and slowly recalled what had happened before she passed out.
Both female agents simultaneously had the same question pop into their minds.
How does he know we are Japanese agents?
"Because I can smell the foul odor on you." Chen Yongren said disdainfully.
Hearing this, the two female spies felt a jolt in their hearts.
How does he know what I'm thinking?
"Because I just know." Chen Yongren looked at them and smiled, saying, "Where is the pangolin? Answer correctly and you'll be rewarded."
Pangolin?
The two female agents were stunned.
The female agent on the right:
"I will never tell you that the section chief is at Fujita Bookstore in Hongkou!"
The female agent on the left:
"The section chief is indeed at Fujita Bookstore in Hongkou; too bad you'll never guess it."
The two female agents silently thought to themselves, then said aloud:
"Dream on; I will never tell you the section chief's whereabouts."
"That's right; I see you're capable. I advise you to simply defect and join the Locust Army—your skills are excellent, and the Pangolin Section Chief will surely entrust you with important duties."
Both of them mentioned the same location.
Fujita Bookstore must be the old devils' hideout.
Damn pangolin, today I'll braise you.
"No matter, I already knew." Chen Yongren looked pityingly at the two female agents before him and sneered, "Hongkou District, Fujita Bookstore?"
"How do you know?!"
The two female agents widened their eyes, looked at Chen Yongren in disbelief, and spoke in unison.
The answer came as two flashes of cold light.
Having gotten the answer he wanted, Chen Yongren swiftly slit their throats.
The two female agents' expressions showed shock; their bodies slumped to the ground, dead with eyes unclosed.
Before leaving, Chen Yongren searched the room again, finding in their two suitcases 528 yen and 50 silver dollars.
"Damn poor ghosts, that's all the money they have?" Chen Yongren spat fiercely, cursed as he stashed the money into the system, then went downstairs.
At this moment, there were fewer guests in the lobby.
The Party Affairs Office and Riben agents were still sitting in the lobby.
Chen Yongren was preparing to meet up with Zhang Haifeng and Lin Dayou.
Suddenly, a noisy sound came from outside the street.
Through the large glass window on the first floor, Chen Yongren could clearly see five or six police trucks from the Huajie Police Station driving in from the right side of the street.
About ten officers jumped out of the vehicles, and fifty or sixty police lined up, beginning to enforce martial law outside the hotel.
More police cars kept arriving outside the street, and the number of police stationed outside kept increasing.
A man wearing a chief's insignia led over twenty people in as he marched in.
The sudden commotion attracted many onlookers.
Those Riben spies wore a wary expression, couldn't help but reach for their waists, ready to draw their guns at any moment.
Lin Dayou and Zhang Haifeng were also completely baffled.
"It's fine, it's fine, please stay calm," the hotel manager apologized to the lobby guests while quickly walking over to the chief, saying, "Chief Li, what's going on? What's going on?"
"Who knows? I was just playing cards when I suddenly received the bureau chief's order to put the Huamao Hotel under martial law," Chief Li said impatiently.
The two of them didn't avoid anything, directly discussing it in the lobby.
Chen Yongren keenly sensed something was off.
He was doubtful in his heart.
Then he saw two black sedans approaching from opposite directions, stopping at the entrance of the Huamao Hotel.
Two figures stepped out of the cars respectively, and under the escort of the guards, they walked toward the interior of the Huamao Hotel.
The gate opened.
One wore a Zhongshan suit, the other a proper Western suit.
A group of guards led the way, protecting the two in their midst.
Mayor Yu, General Zhang?
"Damn, the meeting was moved up?" Chen Yongren didn't expect Mayor Yu and General Zhang to appear suddenly.
Not only Chen Yongren, but the Riben spies in the lobby, including those disguised as waiters on the first floor, were all dumbfounded.
It seemed they hadn't expected the target to appear suddenly.
But immediately afterward, they reacted, reaching to draw their pistols from their waists.
The three Riben spies disguised as waiters had already been gradually approaching Mayor Yu and his group.
"Damn!"
"Danger!"
Chen Yongren hesitated not at all, quickly drew his Browning pistol, and pulled the trigger on those 'waiters'.
