Chapter 785
"The signal is perfectly fine; we can see your situation."
"Command, we have not received any communication from Team One."
"Understood. Mission objectives remain unchanged. Continue forward. If you discover any anomalies, evacuate immediately."
"Received, mission continues."
The communication ended, and the Second Assault Team entered cautiously.
Long after the last agent had entered, the front door had still not closed.
"Second Assault Team, offline."
"Hell... what on earth happened!"
Following the human voice was the sound of a fist slamming heavily onto a desk.
Just then, a humanoid figure, as if condensed from the ancient night, slowly walked out from the open doorway.
It wandered aimlessly through the snow at the entrance for a while, then returned to the farmhouse.
"Agent Morris, prepare for action!"
"Morris received, approaching 1983-1."
Not long after, a nimble figure, clad in snow camouflage, arrived quietly, hunched over.
After observing outside the door for a while and confirming there was no risk, he immediately entered the farmhouse.
Shortly after that, the front door closed.
And then, the world fell back into a deep sleep.
It seemed as if no Foundation agents had ever visited; the traces of their presence were soon smoothed over by snowflakes.
The world continued its cycle; the cruelty of winter and the power of the blizzard seemed particularly biting at this moment.
The cold wind continued to howl, and snowflakes, like countless dancing ghosts, swirled and fluttered.
The sky grew dark, and from time to time, the booming sound of accumulated snow snapping tree branches could be heard.
The distant hills were covered in snow, like silent observers.
On this vast land, only one farmhouse emitted a warm light from its windows.
The entire file seemed to have been muted; neither within the footage nor at the command center outside did anyone speak for a long time.
After a long while, following a sigh, one person said:
"... Mobile Task Force Chi-13... total annihilation."
"Update the 'SCP-1983' file, Keter class."
Another person said:
"Casualties for the Mobile Task Force have been reported, and the SCP information has been updated."
The first person continued:
"Do not schedule any new investigation missions before spring."
"File clearance level raised to Level 3."
"Additionally, designate this area as a restricted zone, maintain 24-hour continuous surveillance, and prohibit all unauthorized personnel from entering."
"The death incident in ██ County is to be covered up externally as an attack by a large wild beast."
"Received!"
If the total annihilation of the first team could be attributed to the agents' lack of vigilance, leading to some accidents that ultimately invited destruction.
Then, the silent disappearance of the second team and the lone agent.
That could only prove that beneath the exterior of this farmhouse, it was actually an extremely dangerous area, or even a nest of anomalies!
Or perhaps, it possessed certain highly dangerous characteristics internally, dangerous to the point where agents couldn't even transmit information or attempt to escape.
"I'm so wise for not starting a game immediately, but deciding to finish this file first, so I won't be unable to sleep at night."
"The characteristics of this SCP are actually a bit like 'God-hiding'; isn't its name 'Gateway to the Dead'? Maybe it connects to another space behind it, and once the agents enter, they enter the dead zone and get completely lost inside."
"But in the 'SCP-2935' file, even when agents go to another world, they can still communicate; there's no reason for the connection to suddenly cut off, right?"
"Don't argue! Don't argue! If you have any opinions, you can immediately open the 'Foundation Grand Game', select 'SCP-1983', choose the agent identity, and go in for a stroll."
As everyone's thoughts flew, the screen transitioned.
The space had not changed; what had changed was time.
The blizzard of the past had disappeared, and this land was no longer buried by accumulated snow.
Spring had arrived.
The scenery around the farmhouse had naturally undergone tremendous changes.
The fields were covered in a layer of fresh green, the grass was dotted with colorful wildflowers, and the tender green leaves swayed gently in the breeze.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, spilling around the farmhouse, forming mottled light and shadows; squirrels were jumping, and a herd of deer passed through the woods.
Even the farmhouse itself seemed to have been awakened by the breath of spring.
Under the sunlight, the exterior walls were no longer old, and the wooden window frames and door panels were illuminated by the warm sun.
Only, the front door was left with just a white frame, and the door itself was nowhere to be seen.
Behind the doorway was still a darkness so thick it couldn't be dissolved, feeling even more damp in the spring.
At this moment, a man wearing a D-class personnel uniform appeared on the screen.
His chest badge was engraved with 【D-14134】, clearly his designation.
He carried a small camera and walked up to the farmhouse.
"Warden?" he joked.
"We hear you, D-14134." The command center's voice came through the communicator. "You just need to check as many places as possible, and try to return afterward."
"Understood."
D-14134 looked at the farmhouse that seemed to devour people, took a deep breath, slowly raised the pistol in his hand, and held it close to his body.
The sunlight shone on him, gilding his silhouette with a layer of gold.
A moment later, he moved forward slowly, crossed the threshold, and officially entered.
The 'Equilibrium' setting is a bit impressive:
"He is clearly 'One', yet he splits himself into 'Two'. He controls two 'Others', yet he kneads 'Himself' together."
