Chapter 94
Royal secret?
This is definitely worth listening to.
Because the royal family is practically the foremost secular power on the White Continent.
Every royal family has at least two Five-ring Sages guarding it, and possibly even hides higher-ring terrifying mages with special abilities.
Luosen may have Ten-ring power, but his mature technique accomplishment stops at Four-ring, so his knowledge of royal secrets is no different from that of an ordinary Arcane Master.
I thought that after returning to the political study of Crescent Castle, Weige would directly tell him.
But I didn't expect her to whisper softly: "Lord, this secret is no trivial matter; I cannot speak it outright, nor can I even ponder it deeply."
Because the sages sponsored by the royal family have already locked onto the relevant secret with a powerful and mysterious fate spell.
If one thinks deeply about it, the related thought fluctuations might trigger the fate spell, thereby inviting the sages' scrutiny; therefore, utmost caution is required.
This remark made Luosen slightly surprised, but he did not doubt it, for he knew that high-ring spells with similar functions indeed existed.
He himself would even resort to a few such tricks, of course, with many loopholes.
He whispered: "How many sages does the royal family have?"
He knew there were two: the Frost Envoy Lafengge and the Arcane Soul Fugujialuo, both formidable experts with astonishing spell accomplishments.
I'm not entirely sure either, but there should be three. One is said to be very old, and to keep living he just sleeps all day.
She paused, then whispered softly: "Lord, we must meet in dreams to safely speak of the related secret."
The problem is, how do we meet in dreams?
"Dream Meeting" is a three-ring soul spell, very unstable, and requires both parties to perform some very deep coordination to ensure a stable encounter.
That aside, the key is that while dreaming, one's true soul form will inevitably be revealed.
Luosen's true soul form would frighten people.
But the royal family's secret also genuinely stirred Luosen's heart.
Given Weige's demeanor, this secret is likely to cause a tremendous upheaval in the Levinde Royal Family.
If a secret of this level fell into the hands of someone with intent, its effect could practically overturn a kingdom.
So, the current problem is to exchange one's own secret for the other's secret.
Shall we exchange?
As he pondered, Weige saw Luosen remain silent for a long time, thinking he dared not listen, and she lightly sighed: "Lord, I have put you in a difficult position."
Saying that, she was about to turn and leave.
"Wait." Luosen called out to her.
"Why would you take such a huge risk to tell me this secret?"
Weige earnestly said: "Because I want to save my mentor. He is not only my mentor, but also the foster father who raised me."
All my knowledge, even my life, were given by him. Even my successful escape from the palace and evasion of assassins' pursuit was thanks to his protection.
"I must save him; this is the meaning of my life."
Strangely, while saying these words, Weige's face was icy and indifferent, showing no emotional fluctuation, as if she were merely stating a fact.
But Luosen faintly sensed the undulations deep in her soul, and immediately understood the reason.
She was deliberately suppressing emotional fluctuations to avoid detection by the sages' fate spell.
No wonder she always appears stern.
"Lord, actually I was greedy, because I originally thought there was no chance to save him; merely surviving was already the limit of my ability."
"But now I believe you, Lord, have the ability to help me."
Luosen's eyes flickered: "I am merely an intermediate mage, Miss Weige."
Weige pressed her lips and said something somewhat astonishing.
"Based on my past experience, I have dealt with many true sages, and I know some hidden manifestations of powerful souls."
"Your lordship's disguise is indeed nearly perfect, but in this world nothing can be perfectly disguised as something else."
"If we had only just met, I would of course notice nothing, but over the past two months we have seen each other almost every day."
Having spoken to this point, it is already quite clear.
Weige, this extraordinarily insightful genius apothecary, has seen through some of Luosen's disguises from a few clues.
As to how much she has seen through, it is certainly not much, but as time together grows longer, she will surely know more and more.
This is something that can never be completely avoided.
If you wish to borrow the power of the sages, you will inevitably be subject to their scrutiny, and the reason sages are sages is because they possess a pair of wise eyes that perceive the true nature of the world.
Given that, Luosen also laid some cards on the table: "Well, I do have decent magical power, but I don't have particularly high spell accomplishments."
Weige nodded lightly, not at all surprised: "I understand, after all, you are still young, Lord."
"Oh~ What if my youth is a disguise?"
"Soul aura cannot be disguised, Lord; perhaps I am not as keen as you, but you constantly sway before my eyes and often display magic, and I am not blind."
Luosen shrugged: "Then what age do you think I am?"
"Probably twenty years old."
"Then how strong do you think my magical power is?"
"Probably five rings, roughly the peak of five rings, possibly even six rings."
"On what basis?"
"Sage Levin, he is likely a spell construct you created."
"Miss Akali and the Black-Iron Guard should be the same, and even the one standing before me now is also."
"Sometimes I even suspected that Princess Selena might be one as well, but later I found out she isn't; she is purely someone whose heart you have captured."
Luosen curled his lip, feeling that this apothecary was truly sharp.
Weige, the steward, people sometimes are too clever and will bring big trouble.
Yeah, so I've stirred up big trouble, but since it's already like this, I don't mind stirring up one more.
So, Lord, do you still want to know the secret?
Luosen pondered, then said: "To be frank, I possess Six Rings power."
The absolute gap in power between Six Rings and Ten Rings is actually not large; the latter is roughly about sixty percent higher than the former, a bit less.
But for the strong, a little higher means boundlessly higher; in the eyes of Weige, who has achieved Three Rings, she naturally cannot tell the difference between them.
No matter how clever she is, it's useless, because there is nothing to compare against.
But Six Rings was already enough to astonish Weige; her eyes lit up: "Oh, what an astonishing magical accomplishment!"
Luosen earnestly corrected: "It's not a magical accomplishment, it's power cultivation."
"My magical accomplishment isn't high. For example, I'm not confident I can break the Sage's Fate Spell you just mentioned." "Moreover, I also want to question the safety of the 'Dream Meeting' spell, because I know some fate spells can penetrate the dream barrier."
This clearly exceeds Weige's knowledge bounds; she couldn't help but frown: "What should we do?"
I happen to have an absolutely safe method.
What method? To save my mentor, I'm willing to give everything, even my life!
Weige's tone showed a hint of urgency; she could barely contain her emotions.
Luosen quickly raised his hand and pressed down gently: "Quiet~ patience~ don't rush."
You go to your dwelling and wait for me.
Weige did so without hesitation.
A few minutes later, Luosen's puppet remained in the government office, while his true form walked out of the Magic Method Laboratory, turned invisible, and entered the wooden house where Weige lived.
He saw Weige sitting on the leather chair in the living room, looking uneasy.
Luosen appeared beside her, startling her, but she immediately forced herself to endure.
After looking closely at Luosen, she whispered: "This is truly the lord, not a puppet."
Luosen sat beside her and raised his hand to press on her shoulder, stopping her from standing up.
"'Dream Meeting' is a superficial contact of souls; information might leak in between. But if I wrap my soul around yours for deep mingling, it can guarantee absolute safety."
A Ten Rings soul can almost completely block the undulations of lower-ring souls.
Weige whispered: "What should I do?"
"Close your eyes and listen to my orders."
Weige immediately complied.
Luosen lowered his head, pressed his forehead against her smooth, fair forehead, simultaneously surged his power, and uttered the true soul-language: "Can you hear my voice, Miss Weige?"
"No need to answer; close your eyes, follow my guidance, step by step forward, that's all."
Weige took a deep breath and proceeded step by step as instructed.
After an unknown amount of time, she felt her vision go black and entered a space of absolute darkness and absolute silence.
Immediately after, a flash of light, and a person appeared in this space.
This person was wrapped in deep purple misty light, and the mist surface occasionally burst with tiny electric arcs.
Upon closer look, it was actually Luosen; aside from the light mist, his whole body appeared naked, with no clothing visible.
She immediately lowered her head to look at herself and discovered she was the same.
She also noticed the light on her body was very faint, almost invisible.
Weige gazed at his body, a thought flashing in her mind: "So this is the soul of a Six Rings Dharma Sage, truly magnificent."
Soon after, she noticed some bodily details, subconsciously opened her eyes to look, and suddenly understood.
"It's no wonder he could win the princess's heart, being so great."
Strangely, though it was just a thought in her mind, she ended up hearing her own voice.
"Our souls face each other, with no secrets; your heart's voice is your voice." Luosen laughed.
"Here too it's absolutely safe; you can freely speak your secrets."
"Alright."
Weige gave an embarrassed laugh, collected herself, and began to recount the royal secret.
"The Queen Dowager is thirty-three this year, a greedy, licentious, foolish woman. Long ago she had an affair with the Ice Envoy Laifeng, giving birth to the current little king, Xila."
Luosen was shocked: "The little king isn't the old king's child?"
"Everyone thought so, but it's actually not."
"To conceal this, the Queen Dowager needed my mentor's unique magic elixir, but he of course refused, so he was controlled and forced to make medicine for her."
"Tsk tsk~ interesting, really interesting~"
Levinde, the old king, feels stifled—he's been cuckolded, and even his kingdom has been usurped.
These secrets are indeed astonishing; if used well, they could lightly turn Levinde into a puppet, or heavily cause his downfall and fragmentation!
In short, this is a king bomb! Luosen immediately promised.
"Weige, if there's a chance, I'll find a way to rescue your mentor, as long as he's still alive then."
"He must still be alive; they need his medicine."
"Understood."
Luosen immediately withdrew from the deep soul space, patiently sitting beside Weige waiting.
About ten minutes later, Weige woke up; upon opening her eyes, she stared intently at Luosen.
"Lord, will you kill me to silence me?"
Luosen shook his head: "Of course not."
"But I have probed your secret."
Luosen smiled: "This secret is meant to deceive fools; I never thought of deceiving a trusted mage."
After saying that, he rose to leave, but before he could get up, he was grabbed around the waist by her.
A low voice came from behind.
"Lord, a person is lonely; the clearer the mind, the lonelier, because there is no one with whom to truly communicate."
Luosen startled, turned to look at Weige, understood her thought: "You intend to prove your complete loyalty to me through action?"
"That's unnecessary; you've already proven it."
Weige replied: "I know, but I am also a woman."
"I have devoted my life to magic; I do not intend to marry any man, but that does not mean I do not need a man's comfort."
Luosen's gaze swept over her unusually mature body, then he nodded in agreement: "Fine, but once the new Magic Method Center is built, you must move out of Crescent Castle immediately."
He did not want to have two women in one castle.
"I will."
One hour passed in silence.
Afterwards, Luosen quietly returned to the lord's long house, thinking: "This secret is truly exciting, but I have no use for it now, and it's even hard to arrange covertly."
Because Levinde is too far, his power cannot reach there.
"We must immediately find a secret route that can quickly reach Levinde and put our pieces in place."
Opportunities have always been reserved for those who are prepared.
The main text will not add extra female side characters; there will be no unnecessary emotional interactions later. Adding this detail is mainly for writing side stories.
