Chapter 266: Reexamination
This is putting people in a tough spot—dropping a bunch of bigwigs on us, and then not letting us cut back the project.
If that project fails, who's to blame?
"Aunt Wang, can I apply to quit the project team now?"
"Leaving the Jiedao is fine."
"I really can't handle this matter."
"Or have someone kick me out and let me go haul bricks—anything's fine."
Director Wang glared at him.
Then he said coldly.
"What do you think is good?"
"Those rules were set up by you originally—whoever designs it bears responsibility."
Seeing Yang Qing made him break out in a sweat.
Director Wang stopped joking with him.
"Alright, I've secured a demand for you: this year they must not interfere with your project matters."
Yang Qing rolled his eyes.
"Let's not talk about the cost increase these people bring first."
"Just saying they have meetings today and tomorrow—I can't keep up."
"Here in Beifang, construction simply can't happen in winter."
"If we can't finish construction within the year, it has to be postponed to next year."
"But Director, our scale now isn't what it used to be."
"Personnel and material costs are astronomical; a slight delay could swallow all the profit."
"If the project team goes bankrupt at year‑end, whose fault is it—mine or theirs? In the end they won't drag me out and kill me; I'll just be the scapegoat."
"I can't accept this."
"I've said before: this project is high‑efficiency; once efficiency drops, bankruptcy is near."
Director Wang was also in a bind, so he could only speak sternly.
"The matter's been decided—from now on it's all up to you; the project team has already separated from the Jiedao."
"If there's a problem, go straight to the city."
Yang Qing gritted his teeth.
"Then who should I go see?"
"I'll go find him."
Director Wang picked up the eraser on the desk and threw it over.
"Who you're looking for—you think you're somebody."
"Just do the work assigned to you; there isn't that much to do."
"When you finish this project in your hands, then come back to the Jiedao."
"I haven't given them your staffing plan."
Yang Qing finally stormed out of the Jiedao, angry.
"This damn thing—if I'd known, I wouldn't have blown the project up so big."
"In the end I screwed myself over."
He really was in a bit of a bind, like riding a tiger he can't dismount.
"What to do? We can only take it step by step."
He still wanted to finish the year‑end composition review, so he couldn't openly oppose these people.
"It's so hard…"
Back in the office, Yang Qing urged everyone to speed up task completion.
He himself, however, was there going in circles looking for a solution.
Wan Ling, not knowing where she got the information, came over.
"Brother‑in‑law, we've been upgraded—why do you still look so unhappy?"
"We're now a city‑affiliated unit."
As soon as Wan Ling said that, Yang Qing's eyes lit up.
"Exactly—I've got no experience dealing with these parachuted‑in bigwigs, I'm clueless, but Wan Ling and those Jiedao folks have experience."
"Let them handle the parachuted‑in people; I'll strive to finish the project early, then bow out."
"You know nothing—come over, I'll tell you what's wrong here."
"Those parachuted‑in people—they'll take over… blah blah…"
"In short, it'll be a hassle."
"You know why I'm so stressed, right?"
Wan Ling began to think seriously about a solution.
She's fairly familiar with this, so she should be able to come up with something.
After thinking a long while, Wan Ling came up with a 'solution' that isn't really a solution.
"Brother‑in‑law, why don't we split our people into two parts?"
"One: you take part of our old crew and station them at the worksite, personally overseeing coordination."
"Two: I'll take the rest and build a company framework with these people; I don't know how long we can hold out—it's up to fate."
Wan Ling's idea made Yang Qing's eyes light up.
Building the framework can also take a long time.
As long as I stay at the construction site and don't come back, they can only wait……
Hehe, this method is good.
For now, at least, this project team still belongs to me.
Even if they come over, they still need my cooperation.
I go to the construction site every day and just don't come back, letting them try to win over Wan Ling and her people; once they have Wan Ling's people arranged, we'll see.
Isn't there still this batch that he took away?
Maybe, with a bit more luck, the project is already finished.
As soon as he thought of it, Yang Qing jumped up and began summoning his confidants to discuss matters.
Actually, only Yao Yongsheng and six others haven't been summoned.
They belong to the group that is not welcomed.
A group of people discussed the whole day.
The next day, the office staff were reduced by half.
Wan Ling even told Yao Yongsheng about the parachute transfer.
Yao Yongsheng, upon hearing about the parachute transfer, felt terrible all over.
"I've put in so much effort, only to let others pluck the peach."
His plan was to first enter the project team, then drive out Yang Qing, marginalize Wan Ling, and gradually gain control of the whole group.
Before his beautiful dream could even begin, it died in the womb.
He actually got parachuted in?
"Fine, you ruined my plans, huh? We'll see how it goes."
Wan Ling also got another free helper.
On the third day, after the city people arrived, the company began constructing the framework.
However, this group never saw Yang Qing from start to finish.
They still thought the project team consisted only of these people.
Yao Yongsheng kept causing trouble, and the construction of the company's framework got off to a difficult start.
One month later.
The ice had completely melted.
The building materials were also fully gathered.
The project had already begun.
A group of people in the office, still clueless, kept arguing nonstop.
Things began to get on track, and Yang Qing came to the Jiedao once again.
Director Wang had been waiting for a while.
"Yang Qing, notice from above has come down, ordering the Jiedao to conduct another investigation into everyone's identity."
"For those who have already completed their class transformation, the Jiedao will report upward, and results should come soon."
Yang Qing was so excited he could hardly contain himself; he had finally waited for this.
That year, many people became civilians due to good performance, but after 1966, some of them were again struck back to their original forms.
Yang Qing made use of this period.
After 1966, he truly dared not stay here.
Jingcheng was the liveliest place where the small soldiers caused trouble.
Whoever caused trouble would end up miserable.
Yang Qing burst into laughter.
"Thank you, thank you, Aunt Wang."
"You are practically my reborn parents."
Aunt Wang pulled out a document.
"Please sign it quickly."
"Once you sign, I'll be busy; with so many people, our Jiedao may have to work for about half a month."
"After the higher authorities approve, come back to redo your household registration."
"Then you'll have no worries left behind."
Yang Qing nodded repeatedly.
"I'll listen to you, Aunt."
Aunt Wang waved her hand.
"All right, you can go now."
She was also very happy; she originally thought Yang Qing would be screwed over in the Long-term Rental project.
But then she didn't expect that this year a re‑examination would be held, granting Yang Qing, an orphan, a change of status— isn't that only natural?
