Chapter 43
“Roar! Roar!”
Deep in the wilderness, a furious bear’s roar sent all creatures scattering through the forest, shattering the night’s stillness.
Just from that roar alone, the animals of the wilderness could sense the bear was now in a bloodthirsty rage.
“Howl! Howl!”
In response to the bear’s furious roars came the wolves’ howling under the moon.
Deep in the wilderness, a fierce battle between wolves and bear was underway.
This battle had created a blank zone for miles around, with no other animal daring to linger and watch.
For this was a clash between the King of the Wilderness and the wilderness’s most formidable pack.
Of course, the cause of this battle had been a porcupine.
A hungry black bear had gone out at night to forage and discovered a porcupine in the wilderness, which it captured.
But at the moment the black bear captured the porcupine, a wolf pack had also been watching it for a long time.
The hungry bear, of course, would not abandon its captured prey, and immediately roared at the wolf pack to scare them off.
But the starving wolves, their bellies empty, paid no heed to the bear’s threats—instead of giving up the prey, they added the bear to their menu.
When neither side would yield, a battle became inevitable, and thus, unseen by any, a bear-wolf war erupted deep in the wilderness.
Enraged, the black bear charged straight at the wolf pack, heading for the wolf king, but the wolves, wary of the bear’s strength, avoided direct confrontation.
Instead, they waited until the bear paused, then launched surprise attacks from behind, tearing at its hind legs and even its rump.
The bear, in pain, immediately turned and struck back at the wolves behind it.
The gray wolf directly in the bear’s rear reacted a fraction too slow and was slammed to the ground by a single paw.
“Whimper… whimper!”
The crushing force of the bear’s paw sent the central gray wolf into a howl of agony; it took a long time before it could limp back to its feet.
But as the bear turned, other wolves struck from behind, leaving its back torn and bloody.
This was the wolf pack’s constant fighting style: never frontal assault, always coordinated ambushes, minimizing their own casualties.
After several exchanges, the black bear now felt an unprecedented sense of peril—and fear crept into its heart.
Then, despite taking another wound, it spun and bit down hard on a gray wolf’s throat.
The wolf, its throat seized, collapsed with a final howl and never rose again—this strike by the bear was swift, precise, and brutal.
Yet this ferocious attack stunned the surrounding wolves, clearly shaken by the bear’s violence.
Soon, the wolves’ eyes turned blood-red, as if their companion’s death had stirred them into even greater savagery.
But the bear, lacking courage, took advantage of the wolves’ momentary shock and fled.
“Howl!”
The wolf pack, however, had no intention of letting this bear—responsible for their comrade’s death and already wounded—escape.
At the wolf king’s roar, the pack surged after the bear.
The wolves’ speed surpassed the bear’s, but they still feared its strength and counterattacks, so they chased while only lunging to tear off a bite when the chance arose.
The bear, meanwhile, felt despair—under the wolves’ pursuit, it might truly die tonight.
…
…
“Roar! Roar!”
In his sleep, Xiao Yi unconsciously smiled—exhausted from a full day, after a brief chat with his livestream audience to ease his loneliness, he had fallen asleep.
In the wilderness, with no phone or computer, Xiao Yi’s biological clock had effectively reset.
Since the clumsy bear hadn’t come yesterday, Xiao Yi had lowered his guard today, assuming it wouldn’t come today either.
Yet as he drifted in and out of sleep, he thought he heard a bear’s roar.
Even so, he didn’t wake immediately—he didn’t believe that clumsy bear would dare come so brazenly to bother him.
In his dream, Xiao Yi helplessly complained: why, even in sleep, could he not escape the memory of that clumsy bear’s roar?
“Roar! Roar!”
“Howl! Howl!”
“Something’s wrong—this isn’t a hallucination!”
As the sounds came again, Xiao Yi jolted upright—since nearly being killed by that clumsy bear while asleep, he had never again slept deeply in the wilderness.
Just now, he’d heard the bear’s roar again, mixed with wolf howls, and instantly went on alert.
He silently cursed inside: “Not again! Not only is the clumsy bear coming for revenge, but now the wolves have allies too?”
Of course, this chorus of howls and roars had jolted awake everyone in Xiao Yi’s livestream who’d been staying up to watch him sleep.
“Didn’t the god just fall asleep? Why did he suddenly sit up?”
“Damn, did you hear that noise coming from the god’s livestream?”
“Yeah, sounded like bear roars and wolf howls—will there be another surprise tonight?”
“I think you’re overthinking it. After all, he’s out in the wild—bear roars and wolf howls are normal, right?”
“That’s true. Yesterday, Xiao Shen just killed a wolf; surely no beast in the wilderness would be this stupid.”
“If a bear and wolves really show up tonight, that’d be great—I want to see the god go berserk again, it’s so energizing.”
“Can’t you just wish him some peace? Sure, him hunting beasts is thrilling, but don’t ignore the danger!”
“Roar! Roar!”
“Howl! Howl!”
“Damn, do you feel like the bear roars and wolf howls are getting louder?”
“Now that you mention it, I felt that too—could they really be getting close to the god’s camp?”
“I’m checking! No way! Are a bear and wolves really coming to visit our god today?”
…
…
As the livestream viewers debated, Xiao Yi’s face grew darker by the second.
Even the livestream audience could tell from the sounds that the bear and wolves were drawing nearer to his camp.
How could Xiao Yi, right there at the scene, not notice?
This might really be trouble today.
Xiao Yi now only hoped the bear and wolves were just passing through—but how had they ended up together?
At this point, Xiao Yi’s sleepiness vanished entirely; he gritted his teeth, grabbed his wooden staff, and stepped outside his shelter.
He’d just finished building the heated bed today—he would not allow anyone… no, any beast to destroy it.
Whoever dared destroy it would be his greatest enemy—if any fool had the audacity, then today, Xiao Yi would open the slaughter.
But what came next left Xiao Yi stunned.
