Chapter 17: 17. Father and Son Reunited
Zhang Ran followed the main group out and looked around, his eyes filled with a bit of trepidation and nervousness.
Before Zhang Ran could find the figures of his son and daughter, a voice quickly caught his attention.
"Brother Zhang, Brother Zhang, over here."
Zhang Ran turned his head subconsciously and saw a middle-aged fat man jumping up and down happily on the spot, waving his hands; he looked just like a big boy, lacking any of the composure a middle-aged man should have.
Zhang Ran was stunned for a moment, but he quickly recognized who it was, and a smile bloomed on his face before he strode over.
Meng He also rushed over and gave Zhang Ran a hug, though no one was paying attention to them at this moment; there were countless people here with displays far more exaggerated than theirs, so by comparison, their side seemed overly plain.
"Haha, Brother Zhang, I knew it, you would definitely be fine, haha, that's great, finally seeing you again." Meng He said incoherently after hugging Zhang Ran.
He was truly happy, extremely happy, even though Zhang Ran still looked just as he had all those years ago, appearing much younger than him.
Even after twenty-eight years of not seeing each other, and even though he had become a wealthy man, Meng He still felt not the slightest bit of estrangement toward Zhang Ran.
As for Zhang Ran, it was even more so, since for him, twenty-eight years was just a fleeting moment.
"Brother, it's so good to see you!" Zhang Ran said softly at this time.
Yes, it was good!
Only Meng He had come to pick up Zhang Ran this time!
But was one person too few?
No!
It was already plenty!
Zhang Ran believed that Meng He absolutely understood what his return meant, yet Meng He had still come, and without the slightest pretense, he had fully expressed his joy and excitement.
"Big Brother Zhang." Lin Meizhi's eyes turned red at this moment.
"Come, let's have a hug!" Zhang Ran released Meng He and opened his arms toward Lin Meizhi, a smile on his face, feeling no sense of distance at all.
Seeing Zhang Ran open his arms, Lin Meizhi could no longer hold back; tears streamed down her face as she tightly hugged Zhang Ran.
Meng Zixuan quietly came to her father's side at this moment and said to him, "Dad, is this Uncle Zhang?"
"Yes, this is your Uncle Zhang," Meng He said excitedly.
Seeing his father like this, Meng Zixuan didn't know what to say; your wife is currently hugging someone else, how are you not jealous at all?
If she didn't know how much her father loved her mother, Meng Zixuan would have really suspected that their marriage had fallen apart.
At this moment, both Meng Zixuan and Meng Mingxuan were looking with great curiosity at this Uncle Zhang who had always appeared in their ears but whom they had never met.
At the same time, there was a faint sense of excitement in their hearts.
Just as Zhang Ran and Meng He were embracing, Zhang Sicheng's family was also staring blankly at Zhang Ran, looking at this face that was five or six parts similar to Zhang Sicheng's.
Zhang Ran also discovered them at this moment and released Lin Meizhi; Zhang Ran and Zhang Sicheng looked at each other from a distance, both their eyes filled with trepidation and nervousness.
In the end, it was Zhang Sicheng who regained his composure first; he took a deep breath and walked over, holding the hands of Liu Lu and Zhang Xiaotao.
Zhang Ran also hurriedly stepped forward and looked at Zhang Sicheng, "You... you must be Sicheng." This was the first sentence Zhang Ran spoke, his tone filled with nervousness; it was almost the first time he had been this nervous since his rebirth.
Zhang Sicheng stared blankly at this father who had previously only existed in photographs; he was stunned for a long while before Liu Lu pinched him to remind him.
"Yes, I am Zhang Sicheng, this is my wife Liu Lu, and this is my son Zhang Xiaotao." Zhang Sicheng didn't know how he should address Zhang Ran.
Call him Dad directly?
Although that was indeed the relationship by blood, looking at Zhang Ran's face, which was even younger than his own, he really couldn't bring himself to say it.
And although he had done some mental preparation, he couldn't possibly accept it completely so quickly.
"Hello, I am..." Zhang Ran also didn't know how he should introduce himself to Liu Lu.
Fortunately, Liu Lu had long been mentally prepared and had accepted it very quickly, so she said with a smile, "Hello, you can call me Lulu or Liu Lu, either is fine."
Before Zhang Ran could speak, he heard a crisp child's voice, "Are you my grandpa? Why are you so young, younger than my dad?"
Zhang Ran lowered his head and saw a little boy looking at him with curiosity. Zhang Ran knew who this was and hurriedly squatted down, saying, "Yes, I am your grandpa, your real grandpa. I am young because some things happened."
"Grandpa." Although Zhang Xiaotao didn't understand what Zhang Ran meant by the latter part, he knew that the person in front of him was his grandpa, so he called out very readily.
"Yes!" Zhang Ran answered heavily; he didn't know why, but his eyes suddenly became a bit red.
In truth, he didn't know how to get along with Zhang Sicheng and the others, but facing this little boy, he suddenly felt a stir in his heart.
"Susu, come look, my grandpa has come to see me." The little boy suddenly shouted toward the back.
At this moment, an exquisite little girl had a somewhat cold look on her face; she didn't have the lively personality of a child, nor the excitement of seeing her grandfather.
"You are Siyan, right?" Zhang Ran stood up and said to Zhang Siyan.
"Mm." Zhang Siyan had always had a cold personality, and now she didn't know what to say, so she just gave a simple "Mm," then fell silent. A moment later, she pulled Susu's little hand and said, "Call him Grandfather."
There was a trace of reluctance on Susu's little face, but Zhang Ran could see a hidden trace of longing in her clear, large eyes.
"Grandfather." Susu called out reluctantly.
"Yes!" Zhang Ran responded heavily once again.
Zhang Ran was also mentally prepared for not seeing Zhang Siyan's husband; although the report hadn't investigated everything in minute detail, at the very least, Zhang Ran knew that the relationship between Zhang Siyan and her husband was not good.
"Look, I forgot." After the two sides finished greeting each other, there was a period of silence, and then Zhang Ran seemed to think of something and spoke hurriedly.
As for Meng He and his family, they were just watching quietly from the side; although Meng He had many things he wanted to say to Zhang Ran now, he knew this was not the time.
Then, Zhang Ran was seen pulling open his suitcase and taking out a necklace box first.
"Right, Liu Lu, this is for you, consider it a late welcome gift, please don't mind." Zhang Ran said.
Liu Lu subconsciously looked at her husband, and seeing Zhang Sicheng nod after a moment of silence, she knew that Zhang Ran was trying hard to bridge the relationship between them.
"Taotao, this is yours, do you like it?" Seeing Liu Lu accept the box with both hands, Zhang Ran's smile immediately bloomed, and he squatted down to take out the robot model from inside and handed it to Zhang Xiaotao.
In fact, the moment Zhang Ran opened the suitcase, Zhang Xiaotao's eyes had been fixed on this robot model, but he was usually well-brought-up, so even though he wanted it very much in his heart, he was holding back.
Seeing Zhang Ran give it to him now, and with his mother having accepted the grandfather's gift earlier, Zhang Xiaotao immediately hugged the robot model. This was a toy he had dreamed of, but it was very expensive, so he had never asked his mom and dad for it.
"Thank you, Grandpa, Grandpa is the best!" Zhang Xiaotao immediately kissed Zhang Ran on the face.
This made Zhang Ran instantly overjoyed, and a sense of accomplishment rose in his heart.
