Chapter 22: 22. Meng He's Reminder (Seeking collections, seeking recommendation votes!)

~7 min read 1,324 words

The next morning, Zhang Ran once again experienced the morning bustle of a modern office worker; starting from seven o'clock, the kitchen and bathroom became lively, accompanied by the occasional sound of urging.

By eight o'clock in the morning, everything was finally ready, and Zhang Ran had also woken up early, though he did not disturb Sicheng and his wife.

Once the meal was prepared, Liu Lu said with some embarrassment, "Well, sorry about that, our place is a bit small, and we disturbed your sleep."

After seeing the necklace last night, Liu Lu's attitude toward Zhang Ran had improved; after all, for Liu Lu, the impact of Zhang Ran's return was not as great as it was for Sicheng and the others.

Zhang Ran said nonchalantly, "It's fine, I'm awake too. You two hurry up and eat so you can get to work; just leave Taotao and Susu to me."

"No need to trouble yourself, if you have things to do, please go ahead, they can stay at home," Liu Lu said quickly, knowing that Zhang Ran also had things to attend to today.

Zhang Ran laughed, "What could I possibly be busy with? I'll probably need a long time to adapt to modern society. Alright, don't worry, I'll take good care of the two little ones, you two go to work with peace of mind."

Hearing Zhang Ran say this, Liu Lu didn't say anything more; she and Sicheng finished breakfast in a rush, then picked up the two little ones, helped them get dressed, wash their faces, and brush their teeth before heading to work.

However, before leaving for work, they left one thousand yuan for Zhang Ran, and Zhang Ran didn't say anything about it, simply accepting it.

"Grandpa." The little one, Taotao, called out sweetly when he saw Zhang Ran, while the little one, Susu, was more aloof and did not greet him proactively.

"Hey, Taotao and Susu, hurry up and eat. Once you're done, Grandpa will take you out to play," Zhang Ran said with a chuckle.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiaotao immediately became happy, "Grandpa is the best." He first buttered him up with sweet words, then the little one's big eyes rolled around, "Grandpa, I don't want to eat this, I want to eat fried chicken legs and french fries."

Even Susu, upon hearing her brother say this, looked over with her big eyes, showing the lethal appeal these things had on children.

However, Zhang Ran did not agree, "Not now, you have to eat the food Mom made."

The two little ones were immediately a bit disappointed, but then they heard Zhang Ran continue, "But we can go eat them at noon, how about that?"

"Awesome, Grandpa is the best." Zhang Xiaotao jumped up, and Susu's bright eyes also began to flicker with joyful light.

After finishing the meal, Zhang Ran washed the dishes and chopsticks, then took the two little ones out to play.

He first went to the mall, bought a Longhua mobile phone of the same model, and also registered a new SIM card.

Although he knew the effect of doing this wasn't actually very significant, the attitude that needed to be shown still had to be displayed.

In the morning, Zhang Ran took the two little ones to play in the small amusement park inside the mall.

Watching the two little ones having fun inside, Zhang Ran's mood improved a lot; Susu was not as cold as she was at the beginning, and when she was with the children, she had some of the liveliness a child should have, although it was still far less than Taotao, it was already a very good start.

When it was almost eleven o'clock, Zhang Ran brought the two little ones out and headed to the hotel where Meng He was staying.

Meng He had long since prepared lunch, and had also prepared the fried chicken legs and french fries that Zhang Ran wanted.

These were all specially made by the hotel chef, not things from a fast-food restaurant.

"Taotao, Susu, call Grandpa Meng and Grandma Lin," Zhang Ran said to the two little ones with a smile.

Taotao called out very obediently, while Susu hesitated before speaking, but it was already enough to make Meng He and Lin Meizhi incredibly happy.

During the meal, Lin Meizhi sat next to the two little ones, helping them pick up food and feeding them, and very quickly became familiar with the two little ones.

"Taotao, Susu, how about Grandma Lin takes you out to play?" Lin Meizhi said with a smile after seeing that the two little ones had eaten enough.

She knew that Meng He needed to discuss matters with Zhang Ran later, so she took the two little ones out first.

Both Taotao and Susu subconsciously looked at Zhang Ran, which gave Zhang Ran an inexplicable feeling in his heart; especially the change in Susu's attitude, which made a sense of accomplishment rise in Zhang Ran's heart.

"You go play with Grandma Lin, Grandpa and Grandpa Meng have some things to discuss, and I'll come find you in a bit," Zhang Ran said to the two little ones with a smile.

After Lin Meizhi and the two little ones went out, Meng He couldn't wait to say to Zhang Ran, "Brother Zhang, what are your plans for the future?"

Zhang Ran knew what he meant, but he said nonchalantly, "Let's not worry about that for now; I need to straighten out the affairs at home before I can free up my hands."

"But..." Meng He wanted to say something.

Zhang Ran said with a smile, "There are no 'buts'. Right now, the most important thing to me is my family; no matter what, nothing is more important than them.

As for the things you are worried about, there is actually no need to take them too seriously. What is mine will be mine, and no one can take it away."

Seeing Zhang Ran's confident appearance, Meng He was a bit dazed. Zhang Ran was like this back then; facing the rapidly changing tides, he was always this confident, as if no difficulty could stump him.

Even after being delayed for twenty-eight years, he remained just as confident.

Meng He didn't know what else to say, and in the end, he could only offer a reminder, "Brother Zhang, society today is different from twenty-eight years ago. I'm not talking about other things, but rather that all kinds of technological products and medical means are like this.

Look at the streets now, they are full of cameras; basically, every person is being filmed by cameras.

And there are all kinds of upgrades and replacements in medical facilities; there are very few things that cannot be detected."

Zhang Ran knew why Meng He was reminding him of this. Back then, if you wanted to make big money, you couldn't just do it by being honest.

In the early stages of development, everything was very chaotic, and even many things, if said out loud, no one would believe they could be chaotic to such an extent.

At that time, Zhang Ran was able to build such a large family business at a young age, without any backing, and even less of a background, by fighting alone; it wasn't just by relying on his grasp of the future trends.

Actually, when he was inside, the investigator said that the source of Zhang Ran's money had no problems, which was indeed true, but what he didn't say was that while the source of the money was fine, Zhang Ran was no pushover back then.

Almost none of those who went against Zhang Ran, especially those who used underhanded means against him or even wanted his life, ended up well.

But no one was ever able to find any connection between their affairs and Zhang Ran; it was all just subjective speculation.
