Chapter 27: 27. Zhang Ran's Promise (Seeking collections, seeking recommendation votes!)

~8 min read 1,414 words

"You don't know, the situation when Zhang Sicheng and I first met, I want to laugh just thinking about it, hahaha." Liu Lu started laughing as she spoke.

At the dinner table, Liu Lu, as the initiator of the conversation, tried hard to liven up the atmosphere; and sure enough, she started telling Zhang Sicheng's embarrassing stories now.

Hearing Liu Lu's words, Zhang Sicheng's face immediately began to flush red, "You're not allowed to say it, didn't we agree never to bring this matter up again?"

Clearly, Liu Lu's topic was something Zhang Sicheng really did not want to mention.

"Hmph, you're allowed to do it but I'm not allowed to talk about it? I'm going to say it." Liu Lu rarely showed a hint of a mischievous smile; she wanted to see the scene of her husband having his embarrassing stories exposed in front of his own father.

Of course, this wasn't actually the point; the point was that Liu Lu was also using this method to let Zhang Ran understand Zhang Sicheng a little better.

"Now that you put it that way, I'm actually interested. What kind of earth-shattering things could he have done back then?" Zhang Ran became interested.

"Cough, cough, you're the one who told me to say it. You don't know, the first time Zhang Sicheng and I met was at the hospital. I had just become an intern nurse, and the first patient I received was him."

"You wouldn't know, Zhang Sicheng was quite the lovesick fool back then. For his girlfriend at the time, he actually slit his wrists to commit suicide, haha. But halfway through, it hurt so much he cried for his parents and called 120. I still want to laugh when I think of that scene now." Liu Lu laughed out loud while speaking.

Zhang Ran also looked at Zhang Sicheng with some astonishment; he hadn't expected his son to be so 'capable' back then.

Zhang Sicheng felt very uncomfortable under Zhang Ran's gaze and muttered, "I was young then and didn't know any better."

"Hmph hmph, didn't know any better? Then who still keeps his ex-girlfriend's photo? Do you really think I don't know?" Liu Lu hummed.

"Cough, cough, that was in my younger days, it's all in the past. I'll go throw it away right now," Zhang Sicheng said with a dry cough.

He hadn't expected his wife to have discovered it. It wasn't that he was still pining for his ex-girlfriend, he just hadn't had the heart to get rid of it at the time, and later it just served as a memento. Who would have thought he'd have his old accounts settled in front of his father now.

"No need to throw it away, who told me I'm not as good-looking as her," Liu Lu said huffily.

"This matter was Sicheng's fault; I apologize to you on his behalf," Zhang Ran said with some apology.

Liu Lu wasn't truly angry; how could she possibly be angry over this? If she were going to be angry, she would have been long ago. It was just that since the conversation had reached this point, it was a bit of an instinctive reaction.

Hearing Zhang Ran say this, Liu Lu immediately felt a bit embarrassed, "Um, I'm not angry, I'm just joking, please don't take it seriously."

To tell the truth, although Liu Lu wasn't the type to be exceptionally beautiful, she was very pleasant to look at, and her personality was generous, gentle, and understanding. She could be called the ideal type for a man to marry.

In any case, over these past few days, Zhang Ran was very satisfied with his daughter-in-law.

Zhang Ran looked at Liu Lu and said with a serious expression, "Liu Lu, no matter what happens, our Zhang Family will never let you down."

"Please don't say that, Sicheng treats me very well," Liu Lu said hurriedly. She didn't know the significance of Zhang Ran's words right now; if she had known, she definitely wouldn't be so calm.

Because Liu Lu started it, Zhang Sicheng also let go afterward and took the initiative to tell some of his own embarrassing stories. Not only his own, but he didn't even spare Siyan's.

In any case, this meal was eaten very happily, and the atmosphere in the house was getting better and better.

When resting at night, Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu fell asleep very quickly, especially since smelling that faint, delicate fragrance made them sleep even more sweetly.

By the time Zhang Sicheng woke up in the morning, he felt his whole person had become energized. There was none of that usual morning feeling of being weak and limp; he felt his whole body was full of strength.

Previously, Zhang Sicheng had actually been suffering from some insomnia due to company matters, but last night he had slept exceptionally well.

"Honey, how did you sleep last night?" Liu Lu had also woken up by this time.

"Very well, I haven't slept this comfortably in a long time."

"Me too. Do you think it's the effect of those three orchids of Dad's?" Liu Lu said thoughtfully.

"Maybe, but it's probably psychological. If they had such a big effect, they wouldn't be so unknown."

"That's true." Hearing Zhang Sicheng's words, Liu Lu didn't think about it anymore and started to get up to cook.

Time passed slowly just like that, and everything seemed to be quite good, but things aren't always able to go as one imagines.

What Zhang Ran had originally intended was to slowly improve Zhang Sicheng and the others' lives, slowly let them accept it, and incidentally cultivate their abilities.

Especially after that conversation Liu Lu had at the dinner table, Zhang Ran felt this even more. He didn't want to cause this harmonious family to become chaotic because of his own reasons.

Even if that person was his own son, Zhang Ran still didn't feel at ease; very few people can maintain their original heart in the face of sudden wealth.

However, there is a saying that plans cannot keep up with changes.

Zhang Sicheng's home was only sixty or seventy square meters. It was fine when their family of three lived there before; although it was a bit crowded, it was still livable.

But after Zhang Ran returned, plus with Susu there, it appeared quite crowded.

What was even more critical was that because the place was too small, it led to all sorts of inconveniences. First and foremost was the bathroom issue; using the toilet and taking a shower were both big problems.

It was fine at the beginning, barely able to force an adaptation, but after a slightly longer time—not even that long, just over a week—Zhang Ran felt all sorts of discomfort.

Then there was sleeping. Zhang Ran slept in the living room, which meant that whether it was Zhang Sicheng or Liu Lu getting up at night, they had to be extremely careful, and Zhang Ran also felt uncomfortable.

It wasn't just him; actually, Zhang Sicheng and Liu Lu were the same, it's just that no one said it out loud.

Therefore, Zhang Ran had to start considering the housing issue. This problem had reached the point where it had to be solved; otherwise, if some family conflict arose because of living arrangements, that was not something Zhang Ran wanted to see.

So after Zhang Ran got up in the morning, he first sent the two little ones to school, and then prepared to start buying a house.

Zhang Ran was not familiar with Shanghai, but that didn't matter; wasn't there still a follower?

These past few days, Meng Mingxuan hadn't received a summons from Zhang Ran, so he had been playing on his own.

He wasn't bored either; although Shanghai wasn't his home base, he had friends he knew there, and he still spent his days very freely.

This morning, he was still in his dreams when he was woken up by Zhang Ran's phone call. At first, he thought it was a friend and was just about to hang up, but after seeing the caller ID, he immediately became energized.

"Zhang Shu, do you have any instructions?... Alright, I'm coming right over." Meng Mingxuan washed his face, cleared his head, and immediately drove over to where Zhang Ran was.

This was the first time Zhang Ran had asked him to do something; he couldn't afford to be slack.
