Chapter 4: Betraying the Triad's Interests, Just a Basic Operation!
Huang Wengang spent the whole night gathering intelligence, collecting almost all the information available on the surface.
Certain pieces of this information were of great help to the brothers in breaking the deadlock!
As a prosperous area second only to Hong Kong Island, Mong Kok had a highly developed entertainment industry with several red-light districts alone; too many triads gathered here to skim off the profits.
The first-tier triads alone included Hung Hing, Luen Wo, Tung Sing, Shuifang, and Wo Shing, while the remaining second and third-tier triads added up to nearly twenty.
Hung Yee was one of those third-tier triads, the kind that could fall apart at any moment.
Aside from the "building phoenix" business, Mong Kok was the most important source of illicit income for numerous triads.
What Wu Feng had his eye on was Shuifang, which ranked low among the first-tier triads.
Shuifang had a very important business in Mong Kok: providing protection for mahjong parlors.
Mong Kok's Portland Street had the largest mahjong parlor in all of Hong Kong Island, and they had even formed a chain of mahjong parlors under the "Rui" brand, with a fairly large one on Shanghai Street as well.
And the right to provide protection for that "Rui" brand mahjong parlor on Shanghai Street was in the hands of Hung Yee!
Regardless of whether Guanzaisen had any intention of intervening in the struggle for protection rights over mahjong parlors in the Mong Kok area, Wu Feng was going to pin that label firmly on him.
"Buck up, Tangge, you still have quite a bit of work to do today!"
After carefully calculating everything and reviewing the plan with his cousin a few times, Wu Feng realized there were no major loopholes and laid out the plan in his heart, though in the end, his cousin would still have to do the legwork.
There was no helping it; his own Cantonese still carried a fairly obvious Mainland accent, and it would easily arouse suspicion if he went out to do things, so there was no need to take such a risk.
Wu Feng also had his own business to attend to; he had to prepare some tools.
After all, this was triad business, and no matter what the final outcome was, it would be impossible to avoid a physical confrontation.
By the end of the morning, every hoodlum in Mong Kok knew that the newly risen Red Pole of Wo Shing, Guanzaisen, wanted to seize the protection rights for the "Rui" brand mahjong parlors.
Another piece of news also spread quickly: Zhong Ye of Hung Yee could not withstand the pressure from Wo Shing Red Pole Guanzaisen and intended to sell the mahjong parlors in his hands to the Shuifang Mong Kok Hall Master.
Of course, there were other true or false pieces of news and rumors to catch people's attention; this was the underworld!
Bang!
At his Tuodi on Shanghai Street, Guanzaisen kicked the coffee table in front of him, sending it flying far away.
"Damn it, which bastard is out there running his mouth!"
"If I find out who it is, I'll definitely skin him alive!"
Just a moment ago, he had been summoned to the hall's Tuodi on Portland Street and cursed out by Big Brother Long Gen.
Long Gen didn't actually doubt Guanzaisen's "soaring ambition," he was just annoyed that such a matter hadn't been reported to him, the Big Brother, in advance, and that it had been leaked until everyone in Mong Kok knew about it.
If Shuifang were to make a move at their hall in Mong Kok, the hall would be in a very passive position!
Being cursed at by his Big Brother for no reason was one thing, but what made Guanzaisen even more annoyed was that that old fossil, Zhong Ye of Hung Yee, actually wanted to sell the mahjong parlors in his hands to Shuifang?
He absolutely could not accept this!
Even if it meant offending the Shuifang Mong Kok Hall Master, he could not let him succeed!
It wasn't just a matter of face; it also involved real, tangible interests, and he absolutely did not want Shuifang's hands reaching over to Shanghai Street.
The Underlings in the room were all silent as cicadas in winter, terrified of being used as Guanzaisen's punching bag.
Just then, a commotion came from outside the Tuodi door.
"Damn it, what are you doing? Looking to die?"
Guanzaisen was in the middle of his rage and immediately started cursing toward the door.
"Brother Sen, two punks from Hung Yee are here, saying they have something to discuss!"
An Underling soon came to report, his expression quite strange.
"What the hell?"
Guanzaisen said unhappily, "Beat them up first and then kick them out; any stray cat or dog thinks they can show up here now!"
Before long, a few screams came from the entrance of the Tuodi, and thinking the Hung Yee lackeys had already been driven away, his mood eased slightly.
"Heh, Brother Sen has such a high opinion of himself; if I didn't know better, I'd think you were already the Chairman of Wo Shing!"
Just then, a strange, mocking voice came, the tone full of sarcasm.
Wu Feng and his cousin Huang Wengang casually pushed aside the Wo Shing Scum blocking their path and strode toward Guanzaisen.
"You're looking for death, kid!"
Guanzaisen roared, his tall, sturdy body lunging forward, a fist aimed straight at Wu Feng's face.
"Be careful, Ah Feng!"
Amidst his cousin's exclamation, Wu Feng's body suddenly dropped, darting out like a leopard; he raised an arm to block Guanzaisen's fierce punch while his other hand went straight for the man's chest.
Guanzaisen was worthy of being Wo Shing's most prominent Red Pole; when his strike missed, he immediately raised his knee to strike.
Wu Feng gritted his teeth, tensing his stomach to take the knee head-on, and a muffled grunt escaped his throat.
Forcing himself to endure the nausea from his churning stomach, one hand had already clamped onto Guanzaisen's carotid artery, while the other hand gripped a long object wrapped in newspaper, pressing it tightly against Guanzaisen's chest.
"Do you want to continue?"
The outcome was decided in a flash, and everyone was stunned.
"Hmph, if you've got the guts, just finish me off!"
Guanzaisen was limp and his face was flushed red; the look he gave Wu Feng was one of both respect and fear: "Are you a Mainlander?"
"I'm a proper citizen of Hong Kong, the kind with an ID card!"
Wu Feng pushed Guanzaisen away, and the newspaper wrapping the long object in his hand tore open, revealing the cold, chilling gleam of a Sanling Military Stiletto.
Whether others believed it or not, he believed it himself.
Guanzaisen staggered and sat down on a chair, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes as he prepared to call his brothers to attack together.
This was Wo Shing's Tuodi; how could he allow an outsider to run wild here?
"Brother Sen, you'd better think this through!"
Wu Feng sneered, grabbed the small backpack from his cousin Huang Wengang, and pulled the zipper open to reveal a dozen large firecrackers neatly arranged inside, their fuses already tangled together.
"With just a single spark, the firecrackers here are enough to send us all to the afterlife!"
With a swish, the Scum of Wo Shing who had been surrounding them with fierce, menacing looks immediately scattered far away.
"You're ruthless, kid!"
A flash of fear also crossed the eyes of Guanzaisen; having faced the threat of death twice, he lost his nerve and instinctively spoke to break the stagnant atmosphere: "Speak, what is it you want to discuss?"
Wu Feng did not speak, merely sweeping his gaze over the Scum of Wo Shing present.
"All of you get out! No one is allowed in without my orders!"
Guanzaisen was full of resentment, yet he could only do as Wu Feng wished. Running into such a ruthless man was just his bad luck; fortunately, the other party did not seem to want his life.
"My brother and I want to rise through the ranks quickly, and we hope to cooperate with Brother Sen!"
Seeing that all the Scum of Wo Shing had left, Wu Feng then dropped a bombshell: "As long as Brother Sen agrees to cooperate, that mahjong parlor under Zhong Ye's name will be the reward, and even the protection rights for that mahjong parlor of the Rui Faction can be transferred to Brother Sen!"
