Chapter 37: Vernacular Chinese is Better than Classical Chinese (Please Favorite, Please Recommend)

~8 min read 1,462 words

"Scene 5, Take 1 of *Temptation of Going Home*, action!"

The script supervisor held up the clapperboard and snapped it shut in front of the lens with a "pop."

Several days had passed, and the filming had officially begun.

On the set, inside a spacious bedroom with warm yellow lighting and cozy decor, Qi Hui walked to the bedside, his expression slightly weary in his black suit.

The Hong Shixian of this moment had just returned from an affair with Aili, feeling both exhausted and guilty.

Although the actress Li Caihua had not yet joined the crew, it did not affect the filming of this scene; the scenes involving the affair would be shot later.

Not only that, but on his way back from the affair, Hong Shixian had been bumped into by his brother-in-law, who warned him to treat Pinru better or he would risk his life to stop him.

By the bedside, Lin Pinru, dressed as a dowdy housewife, gently served her husband as he changed his clothes.

"Wife, you have to admit, your brother is quite a character," Hong Shixian, played by Qi Hui, leaned against the headboard and complained with a mix of speechlessness and frustration.

"Why does he want to risk his life with me every chance he gets?"

In the script's setting, Hong Shixian’s combat ability was not bad, far superior to that of his brother-in-law.

But hadn't he just finished having an affair?

He felt guilty and afraid, so he subconsciously sought comfort and understanding from his wife.

Lin Pinru sat on the edge of the bed; she did not know what was on Hong Shixian’s mind, thinking only that her husband and her own brother had gotten into a dispute because of her.

Looking at the somewhat childish man, she couldn't help but feel helpless yet amused.

"You know my brother's personality; he just likes to talk tough..." Lin Pinru’s eyes were like water, her lips unable to suppress a smile, feeling happy for her brother's protection and sweet because of her husband's affection.

Off-camera, the executive director was surprised: "Is this South Korean actress's acting this good? How is she performing so smoothly and naturally?"

"The male lead was a good choice." Director Lin chuckled, very satisfied: "Sometimes the chemistry between male and female actors is better than pure acting technique."

Hearing this, the executive director looked thoughtful and hurriedly took out a small notebook to jot it down; this was all knowledge.

"Hmm... no, the male lead is also acting very well!" The executive director looked up and suddenly said: "That feeling of exhaustion and guilt after an affair, and that sense of seeking comfort from the heroine while still being indifferent—it’s acted as if it were real..."

At this point, the executive director’s face darkened slightly: "Damn, what a scumbag!"

Why could such a thing be acted so well?

Director Lin chuckled, unconcerned. He could tell that Choo Ja-hyun had some feelings for Qi Hui, but Qi Hui didn't seem very interested in her.

This was a good thing; the early plot of the script was meant for Lin Pinru to be the underdog and Hong Shixian to be the dominant one.

Director Lin stroked his chin, thinking that when they reached the later part of the script—the part where Lin Pinru takes her revenge—he would break this layer of window paper for Choo Ja-hyun, which should also achieve a certain effect.

Anyway, since Qi Hui had no feelings for Choo Ja-hyun, breaking it early was a good thing for both of them.

But then again... Lin Tianyi was a bit puzzled; this was a foreign beauty, so how was that kid Qi Hui not moved?

Whether it was abroad, Taiwan, or Hong Kong, for a mainland man, marrying one would be considered punching above his weight, the kind of thing that brings honor to his ancestors.

He had even hoped that Qi Hui and Choo Ja-hyun would be lovey-dovey and create some buzz, but it was a pity.

Of course, he wasn't doing this for the sake of filming; he just felt that Qi Hui and Choo Ja-hyun were a perfect match and had potential!

"Is it acted well? I don't think it's that good, do you?" At this moment, Lei Jiayin’s voice came from behind.

The group glanced at him, and the executive director looked him over, asking in confusion: "Why do you look so drained?"

"Not just drained, but haggard too." Director Lin said: "You haven't been doing anything illegal these past few days, have you?"

"Big Head, if something goes wrong, you'll have to pay liquidated damages."

Lei Jiayin’s face turned black, and he hurriedly explained: "Nonsense, what bad things would I do?"

"My partner came to visit the set, and besides, I'm getting married in a few months."

He was so anxious that he even forgot to refute the nickname "Big Head."

"Oh, no wonder you're so drained." The executive director suddenly realized.

"..."

Lei Jiayin felt frustrated; he had just heard the director discussing Qi Hui’s acting, which was his specialty.

As a stage actor, he might be lacking in other areas, but his acting was definitely not bad.

But before he could steer the conversation toward Qi Hui’s acting and criticize him, these directors had retorted one after another.

Damn it!

"Lei Jiayin, get ready, your scene is next." The executive director shouted.

"Oh, coming." Big Head could only put away his frustration and walk quickly onto the set.

On the other side, Qi Hui found a place to sit down and caught his breath.

He didn't have a scene next, so he could rest for a bit.

He lit a cigarette and subconsciously took out his phone. Looking at the flip phone in his hand, he shook it helplessly, then operated the cursor to open mobile QQ.

It is hard to go from luxury to frugality; having grown accustomed to smartphones, he really couldn't get used to a feature phone.

And right now, let alone smartphones, even 3G networks hadn't been fully rolled out.

Beep, beep, beep~

"Senior, has the South Korean beauty arrived? Is she pretty?"

Just after logging in, Jing Tian’s message popped up.

Qi Hui had greeted her when he arrived, so Jing Tian knew the general situation of Qi Hui’s current crew.

"You should be in class right now." Qi Hui glanced at the time and replied immediately.

"Hee hee, no class today, sleeping in at home." Jing Tian hugged her computer, rolling around on her big bed at home, feeling very happy.

"Senior, you still haven't answered me." Jing Tian sent another message: "What does the South Korean beauty look like? Is she pretty?"

"She's just so-so, not even half as good as you."

Jing Tian’s pretty face flushed: "Then what am I like?"

Looking at the message on the phone screen, Qi Hui rubbed his chin, pondered for a moment, and quickly typed a line on the nine-grid keypad:

"Do you remember the debate over vernacular Chinese in our middle school history textbooks?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"Junior, I believe vernacular Chinese is more concise and convenient than classical Chinese."

"Senior, please give an example." Jing Tian was interested and decided to play along with Qi Hui.

"Bright eyes and white teeth, graceful and peerless, elegant and charming, virtuous and beautiful, with a lovely smile—all these terms can be described in two characters."

"Huh? Which two?"

"Jing Tian."

Looking at the message on the screen, Jing Tian froze, then her pretty face turned bright red, and even her earlobes were stained with a layer of pink.

"Ahhh... you bad person, how can you say that!" Jing Tian was so shy she rolled all over the bed.

Shanghai set.

After Qi Hui sent the message, he waited for a few minutes, but seeing no further message from Jing Tian, he couldn't help but scratch his head.

After thinking about it, he decided to send another message to see.

He immediately put the cigarette in his mouth, preparing to type a few more words.

But at this moment, Lei Jiayin suddenly leaned over: "Yo, buddy, why are you hiding here?"

"That South Korean beauty seemed to be looking for you earlier, why don't you go take a look?"

Qi Hui looked up and frowned slightly at him.

Being interrupted by Big Head like this, his mood suddenly turned a bit sour.

Lei Jiayin saw Qi Hui’s displeased expression and immediately realized he had been a bit presumptuous.

His Adam's apple bobbed; he wanted to apologize, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

He couldn't bring himself to apologize to a pretty boy like this.

Qi Hui slowly stood up, his gaze darkening slightly: "Is there something you need?"
