Chapter 42: Getting Married After Finishing This Show (Seeking Collections and Recommendations)

~8 min read 1,460 words

It was hard for Qi Hui not to be surprised; in the world of adults, an apology is no easy feat.

To apologize means to admit one's mistake.

To admit one's mistake means to pay compensation!

Both face and money are lost the moment an apology is made.

Need one look further than those two on the subway who accused others of filming them because of the reflection on their shoes? Years have passed, and they still refuse to apologize.

They are more stubborn than those who have never caught COVID!

Meeting Qi Hui’s surprised gaze, Lei Jiayin took out a brocade box, handed it to him, and said with a pained expression, "This is a small local specialty; I hope you’ll accept it."

Qi Hui raised an eyebrow, took the box, and opened it to find a piece of deer antler.

Qi Hui glanced at his somewhat sickly complexion and suddenly realized; no wonder he looked pained—he had likely acquired it to nourish himself.

Qi Hui chuckled, "Mr. Lei, you’re joking. It was just a small misunderstanding, a minor spat. It’s nothing major; I didn’t take it to heart."

"I accept it, so don't overthink it."

As he spoke, he pulled out a pack of soft-pack Zhonghua cigarettes, opened it, and handed it to him.

Seeing this, Lei Jiayin was slightly pleased; he took one, lit it, and began to smoke.

Just as he was about to return the pack to Qi Hui, Qi Hui waved his hand: "Keep it."

"It’s the last pack I have, so don't mind that."

He usually smoked Liqun himself, and the soft-pack Zhonghua were only for handing out; unfortunately, he only had one pack left today.

"Heh, how could I?" Lei Jiayin waved his hand, a smile appearing on his large face. He knew that the grudge between him and Qi Hui had been set aside.

There would be no risk of backstabbing or setting traps for each other in the future, and their work together would go smoothly.

He had been agonizing over this all day, nearly becoming introverted.

"Oh, right, this is an invitation. I’m getting married soon," Lei Jiayin said, taking out a red invitation and smiling. "Come have a drink when the time comes."

"Oh?" Qi Hui gave a dry laugh. "So that’s what you were waiting for? Now I have to give a cash gift."

"Haha, so the cost of my deer antler has been recouped," Lei Jiayin joked.

"Do you need me to be your best man?" Qi Hui flipped through the invitation and asked with a smile.

Lei Jiayin quickly said, "That won't be necessary!"

With Qi Hui’s appearance and demeanor, which rivaled Leon Lai’s, if he were to be the best man, who knows how many cousins and sisters-in-law would be overjoyed.

That would only cause him trouble.

Besides, if Qi Hui stood next to him, the audience would easily get confused about who the groom was—Qi Hui would steal all the spotlight!

"Fine then..." Qi Hui nodded. "But isn't the timing a bit tight?"

"Isn't it right around the time our production schedule ends?"

"That's right," Lei Jiayin nodded. "I'm getting married as soon as we finish filming this show."

Qi Hui: "..."

Brother, that’s a jinxed thing to say!

Back in his room, Lei Jiayin took a shower, ready to collapse into bed. He was currently replenishing his kidneys—ahem, he meant nourishing his body—and didn't want to stay up late.

However, thinking about the show Qi Hui starred in airing today, he realized he knew very little about him.

He immediately opened his computer to Baidu to look up Qi Hui’s show and, incidentally, look up the man himself.

That night, he hadn't talked much about Qi Hui with his partner.

He wasn't a pervert; who would spend time with their fiancée and talk about another handsome man instead of being lovey-dovey?

So, until now, he didn't know much about Qi Hui.

Soon, related reports appeared on the webpage, along with videos of the fugitive arrest and a photo of Qi Hui with a silk banner.

"Holy crap... he's this fierce?" Lei Jiayin was dumbfounded; he realized Qi Hui was no simple man.

He immediately opened a video site and found the TV program promoting *Lurk*.

On the show, Director Jiang Wei spoke multiple times about Qi Hui’s act of courage.

He even mentioned Qi Hui helping to film the action scenes, which drew gasps from the host and the audience.

Under the video, netizens were buzzing with discussion:

"I almost forgot, isn't this the show that was 'lurked'?"

"Holy crap, it finally aired."

"What's going on? Isn't Qi Hui the lead? Why is it Liu Huaqiang?"

"Watched two episodes, Qi Hui hasn't appeared yet, but it's pretty interesting."

"Is he an actor? Why is he doing the director's work?"

Online, although Qi Hui hadn't appeared in *Lurk* yet, he had already become famous, sparking countless expectations.

"Impressive..." Lei Jiayin grinned and couldn't help but mutter.

A hint of respect grew in his heart; not falling out with Qi Hui was perhaps a very correct decision.

The next day!

Filming continued, but unlike yesterday, this scene included shots of Li Caihua.

"3, 2, 1, action!"

At the command, Hong Shixian, played by Qi Hui, and Aili, played by Li Caihua, walked downstairs arm-in-arm, tugging at each other.

Hong Shixian tried to break free, but Aili clung tightly to him.

After struggling twice, Hong Shixian simply couldn't get away.

"Very good, cut!" Director Lin shouted. "Next shot."

"3, 2, 1, action!"

The clapperboard clapped, and Aili, who was arm-in-arm with Hong Shixian, suddenly changed expression; without a word, she hid behind a pillar in the lobby.

Qi Hui acted out a look of confusion and doubt, and then his expression shifted to one of guilt and awkwardness.

The transition between the two expressions was extremely fluid.

This scene was the precursor to the fight scene from yesterday.

Hong Shixian and Aili were walking downstairs after having an affair in the office when they ran into the brother-in-law, Lin Yide.

Aili was startled and hurried to hide; Hong Shixian was first confused, and only then felt guilty when facing Lin Yide.

"Very good, cut!" Director Lin shouted, very satisfied with the performances of Qi Hui and Li Caihua.

The executive director patted Lei Jiayin, who was off-camera: "Your turn, continue with yesterday's fight scene."

"Alright..." Lei Jiayin nodded and took a deep breath.

"Next shot, Qi Hui, Lei Jiayin get ready, extras in position," Director Lin commanded, directing the actors' movements.

"3, 2, 1, action!"

Slap!

The clapperboard clapped, and filming officially began.

"What kind of attitude is that? I must have been blind to let my sister marry you!" Lin Yide roared in anger.

Then, he suddenly gathered his strength and swung a wide punch at Hong Shixian, played by Qi Hui.

Qi Hui timed it perfectly, tilting his head and covering his face with a look of shock.

An enraged Lin Yide swung again, hitting Hong Shixian in the face.

"How can you hit people!" Hong Shixian pointed at Lin Yide and roared: "Security, security!"

"Hit you? I'll even kick you!" Lin Yide was incredibly angry, clawing and kicking, but was ruthlessly dragged away by security.

"Don't force me to fight back!" Hong Shixian warned viciously.

"Very good, cut!" Director Lin was overjoyed; he hadn't expected to get it in one take.

Had Qi Hui and Lei Jiayin really buried the hatchet?

"Makeup artists, it's your turn," the executive director shouted. "Hurry up."

Makeup was needed for Hong Shixian’s bruised face, and this scene still required a few more shots.

Soon, the makeup was finished, the shots were completed, and Lei Jiayin could rest for a while.

But Qi Hui couldn't; he was the male lead, and his workload was heavy.

Before Qi Hui could even sit down, he was pulled away by the executive director to read the script and rehearse lines with the two actresses, Choo Ja-hyun and Li Caihua.

Lei Jiayin felt relaxed and walked behind the director to watch the scene; he finally wasn't feeling introverted today.

"Director, how is it that Qi Hui can be the male lead?" Lei Jiayin asked, unable to help himself as he watched Qi Hui, who was about to be surrounded by beauties.

A man from the Northeast is responsible, forthright, and admits his mistakes, but he also has a bad side.

For example: being stubborn!

He just couldn't figure it out—could one really be the male lead of a show just because they were handsome?

Beside him, Chi Shuai cast a glance, looking at Lei Jiayin with interest and a hint of playfulness.

To be honest, he was also a bit unconvinced.
