Chapter 55: Boomerang (Please Favorite, Please Recommend)
"Holy crap, something actually went wrong?" Lei Jiayin shouted in shock.
Could it be that Li Caihua got a cramp?
That woman is stubborn; she wouldn't do the warm-up exercises when told, and now she's in trouble!
On the river, upon hearing the Director's words, the kayak pilot instantly pushed the throttle to the max, rushing toward the scene of the incident.
However, the river scene for this shoot was very wide, and the rescue kayak was positioned quite far back, so it was a bit of a distance and would take some time to get there.
The Director noticed this too; he threw down his headset without a care, grabbed his walkie-talkie, and rushed toward the riverbank in a panic.
Nothing can go wrong; if something happens, the crew will be in big trouble!
"Director, don't panic!" Tu Liman called out while holding binoculars: "Qi Hui has rushed over; he swims very fast."
"Is that so!?" Hearing this, the Director was overjoyed: "Quick, let me see!"
As he spoke, he snatched the binoculars from Tu Liman's hands.
Tu Liman pouted; that was my binoculars for looking at the handsome guy's muscles, and I had such a hard time getting them from Lei Jiayin!
The Director ignored her and quickly looked at Qi Hui through the binoculars.
Just as Tu Liman said, Qi Hui was dragging a faint white wake behind him, moving rapidly toward those two raised arms.
And at this moment, the kayak was still quite far away.
"Good lad... tsk tsk, it's great to be young!" the Director said with some emotion; such explosive power is truly enviable.
Back when he was young... *cough*, he also had such powerful explosive power.
In the river water!
Qi Hui straightened his body and lifted his head, confirming Li Caihua's position once more; he was already very close to her.
He immediately dove into the water, swimming underwater to reach her quickly.
Without anything to push off of, he couldn't possibly pull an adult woman.
Only by pushing her up from underwater could he get her out of the water.
However, the moment he dove into the water, Qi Hui realized something was wrong.
Under the surface, Li Caihua's left leg was kicking the river water continuously, but her right leg was pulled in tight—her posture was extremely strange.
This woman has a cramp... Qi Hui made a judgment in his heart; he didn't dare to delay and exerted himself to swim over.
This is his first role as a male lead; he can't let something as big as a death happen!
"Gurgle, gurgle..." Bubbles kept rising from Li Caihua's mouth and nose; the originally cool river water didn't make her feel comfortable, but instead, she felt endless cold and fear.
Once, relying on the swimming she learned as a child, she never felt she was in danger; she even felt she could swim across the Wusong River and conquer it.
However, when she was truly drowning, she realized how humble and insignificant she was.
"I really am like Aili..." such a thought rose in Li Caihua's heart: "Humble, insignificant, using every means to fight for a beautiful love, trying to change myself, but in the end..."
Before the thought faded, a force came from below.
Qi Hui wrapped his arms around her waist and performed an Uchiha-style body slam—of course, changing the slam into a push—directly pushing Li Caihua out of the water.
"Pfft... ha!" Li Caihua violently spat out water, then took a deep breath of fresh air.
She didn't care about anything else; she wrapped her arms around Qi Hui, holding him tightly, and her two legs wrapped directly around Qi Hui's waist.
Qi Hui: "..."
Again?
However, looking at Li Caihua, who was pressed against his chest with red-rimmed eyes and gasping for air, Qi Hui didn't force her away.
"Waa—!"
Suddenly, Li Caihua burst into loud sobs, as if to vent the near-death fear she had just experienced.
Qi Hui was speechless; what a hassle!
But there was a silver lining: Li Caihua's crying let the rescue kayak see that she had been saved, and they breathed a sigh of relief.
They reported the situation to the Director and then signaled the lifeguard to get ready to pull the two of them up.
A false alarm... that's a good thing!
Soon, Qi Hui and Li Caihua were pulled onto the rescue kayak, and the kayak turned around and sped toward the shore.
On the way, they also conveniently picked up a photographer who was splashing about on the water's surface.
He had also come to save her.
After discovering the accident, he had handed his camera to another photographer and quickly jumped into the water to rescue Li Caihua.
The distance was a bit far, and he wasn't as fast as Qi Hui.
However, he was wearing a life jacket; if he had been able to reach Li Caihua, it would have been easier for him than for Qi Hui.
"Wuu wuu wuu..." On the kayak, Li Caihua still held onto Qi Hui without letting go, sobbing against his chest.
Qi Hui felt helpless; he wanted to push her away, but he couldn't.
She was currently traumatized and emotionally unstable, so he had to let her continue.
The photographer wiped his hair with a towel, saw this scene, opened his mouth, and silently mouthed a sentence:
"She's immersed in the role..."
He had filmed many scenes with the Director and had seen this situation many times.
Seeing this, Qi Hui suddenly realized.
I was wondering why this woman was acting like this; so that's why.
The reason this scene happened was that Aili had terminal cancer and had everything taken away by Lin Pinru and Gao Shanshan; in the end, she was in despair and could only choose to end her own life.
Before dying, Aili reviewed her life: her parents died early, she had lived in other people's homes since she was a child, and the toys she played with and the clothes she wore were all leftovers from others.
Watching people's expressions at home, watching the weather when going out—how much grievance she had suffered, she was probably the only one who knew.
Li Caihua was likely too immersed in the role and had projected herself into it.
Added to the fear brought by the near-drowning just now, this behavior was normal.
Qi Hui was truly helpless now; he could only wait for her to calm down before saying anything.
The kayak reached the shore, and the feeling of having one's feet on solid ground brought a heartfelt sense of peace.
On the other side, the Director led a crowd of the crew, swarming over.
"Are you okay?"
"How is it?"
"Caihua... is she alright?"
"Everyone, make way, don't crowd around."
The Director shouted: "Move aside, give the doctor room to work!"
The doctor arrived quickly with a medical kit; seeing this, the behind-the-scenes staff and actors all cleared a path.
Seeing this, Li Caihua, who had a somewhat dazed face, regained some of her senses and let go of Qi Hui, whom she had been holding onto.
Qi Hui was shirtless right now, and with so many people watching, it was unseemly.
Li Caihua's assistant rushed over, draped a bath towel over her, and helped dry the water droplets on her hair.
"Oppa, are you okay?"
"Brother Qi, hurry and dry yourself off, don't catch a cold."
Choo Ja-hyun and Tu Liman surrounded Qi Hui, asking repeatedly.
Tu Liman helped hand over a bath towel and took the opportunity to touch Qi Hui's chest.
"Hehehe..."
The movement was a bit fast; Qi Hui hadn't even reacted before he was touched.
Qi Hui: "..."
Was it an accident?
Not far away, Li Caihua watched this scene, bit her lip, and stared intensely at Tu Liman and Qi Hui with her red-rimmed eyes.
Lei Jiayin stood to the side, looking at Li Caihua and then at Qi Hui, his expression thoughtful.
The aftermath of the rescue was proceeding in an orderly fashion; Li Caihua was safe, and Qi Hui had also changed out of his wet pants and put on a set of dry clothes.
"Old Qi," Lei Jiayin leaned in close to Qi Hui, acting mysterious.
"What's up?" Qi Hui asked, confused.
During this time, the two often chatted nonsense together, and Qi Hui had been infected by the Northeast accent.
"I'm looking at it, the way that woman Li Caihua is looking at you is a bit off!" Lei Da-tou said.
"You're seeing things, right?" Qi Hui didn't care; what could be off? It's not like she could eat me.
"I'm thinking, that woman might have taken a fancy to you," Lei Jiayin continued.
Qi Hui: "..."
This sounded familiar; it seemed he had said this before.
And he had said it to Lei Jiayin.
What is this? A boomerang?
