Chapter 57: Confession, Sincerity (Please Favorite, Please Recommend)
Under the corridor lights, Li Caihua’s face remained somewhat pale; it seemed the day’s events had caused her no small amount of shock.
Facing Qi Hui’s words, Li Caihua tucked a long strand of hair behind her ear, a faint smile appearing on her face: "Qi Hui, I have something I’d like to say to you, is that alright?"
"Go ahead, I’m listening," Qi Hui said, wearing an official smile—warm, amiable, and friendly.
Li Caihua didn’t speak, merely lifting her eyes to look at Lei Jiayin, who was standing beside Qi Hui like a wooden post.
"Just say it, why are you looking at me?" The big-headed Lei stared back, showing no intention of avoiding the situation.
He’s a reliable guy, he really steps up when things happen... Qi Hui gave a mental thumbs-up; it wasn’t in vain that I let him mooch so much stuff.
Li Caihua’s expression faltered; she couldn’t help but grit her teeth. This big-headed Lei was truly annoying!
"We’re all colleagues, there’s no harm in everyone chatting together," Qi Hui maintained his official smile. "Besides, didn’t you two have a bit of a misunderstanding before? Maybe talking it out will clear it up."
Lei Jiayin curled his lip. I don’t have any misunderstanding with her; we just don’t see eye to eye.
Li Caihua felt stifled. She looked up at Qi Hui and said slowly: "Qi Hui, thank you for today. If it weren’t for you..."
At this point, Li Caihua’s breathing became slightly rapid; clearly, that drowning incident had left her with significant psychological trauma.
"Don’t mention it," Qi Hui nodded with a smile. "We’re colleagues and will be working together in the future, so it’s only right."
"After all, no one wants problems on set, right?"
Li Caihua’s expression stiffened slightly. Could Qi Hui not understand what she meant?
Her throat moved, and she pursed her lips, seemingly having a lot she wanted to say.
But after glancing at Lei Jiayin, Li Caihua ultimately swallowed her words.
"Well then... let’s exchange contact information," Li Caihua sighed slightly, looking up at Qi Hui. "It’ll be easier to communicate if anything comes up later."
"Alright," Qi Hui nodded.
He couldn’t refuse. He had called her a colleague so many times just now; how could he refuse a colleague’s request for contact info?
Immediately, the two exchanged phone numbers.
It wasn’t a big deal, though; Qi Hui wouldn’t be answering her calls anyway.
Once Li Caihua calmed down in a few days, it wouldn’t be this much trouble.
"Ah... you asked Qi Hui for his number, why didn’t you ask for mine?" Lei Jiayin said quite inappropriately.
The corner of Li Caihua’s eye twitched. She felt like cursing, glared at him, and left without a word.
"Tch, how rude..." the big-headed Lei curled his lip, looking very displeased.
Qi Hui found it amusing: "Alright, she’s gone now."
"How about that, I’m pretty good, right?" Lei Jiayin smiled triumphantly, having successfully kept that vixen from getting a bite of Tang Monk meat.
"Impressive," Qi Hui pulled out a pack of Soft Zhonghua cigarettes and handed one over.
"You bet, I even threw away my dignity for that," Lei Jiayin picked up Qi Hui’s lighter to light his cigarette and said proudly:
"Alright, get back to your room early, and remember to lock the door."
With that, he waved his hand and headed back to his own room.
He still had to have a QQ video call with his fiancée.
Qi Hui waved back and quickly returned to his room, locking the door tight, fearing Li Caihua might double back.
However, just as he closed the door, Qi Hui patted his pocket: "What the hell, where’s my lighter?"
"Did that big-head swipe my lighter?"
Outside the door, Li Caihua had returned. She stood by the corridor, looking at Qi Hui’s door, wondering what she was thinking.
Time drifted by, and in the blink of an eye, three days passed.
Qi Hui’s life returned to normal: filming during the day, hitting the iron at night, and chatting with Jing Tian on the side.
As for fitness, if you don’t move forward, you fall behind; Qi Hui had made lifting a habit.
If he didn’t work out a bit every night, he couldn’t sleep; after all, he had plenty of energy.
On the other end of QQ, that girl Jing Tian seemed very free; not long after he sent a message, he would receive a reply.
It made Qi Hui worry if he was bothering her.
However, he wasn’t sure if Jing Tian was bothered, but Qi Hui was frequently bothered by calls from Li Caihua.
There were no issues with the daytime filming; Director Lin had given Li Caihua five days off to rest before returning to shoot.
*Temptation of Going Home* still had scenes for Lin Pinu, Gao Shanshan, and others to film, so the crew continued to operate in an orderly fashion.
The absence of Li Caihua didn’t have much impact.
But on the third day, Qi Hui suddenly saw Li Caihua on set, talking with Director Lin.
Didn’t she still have two days of leave left... Qi Hui couldn’t help but feel puzzled.
"Qi Hui, you’re here?" Director Lin laughed.
"Ah..." Qi Hui nodded, looking at the two of them with some confusion.
Director Lin didn’t beat around the bush and said directly: "The scenes for these past two days are mostly done, and I originally wanted you to fill in a few shots."
"But Caihua said she’s better, so she cancelled the rest of her leave."
"We’re going to film the scene where Aili seduces Hong Shixian next. Do you have any problems with that?"
Qi Hui glanced at Li Caihua, feeling that something was off, but after a moment’s thought, he nodded: "No problem, I’ll do my best."
It was all standard workflow; Qi Hui had no reason to refuse.
"Alright, you two have a chat first," Director Lin said. "Although your scenes are important, the setting is simple. The difficulty lies in your acting and emotions; there’s no need to mobilize as much as last time."
"So, you two should get familiar with each other."
Director Lin patted Qi Hui on the shoulder and turned to leave.
Once Director Lin left, only Qi Hui and Li Caihua remained.
Damn... Qi Hui’s mouth twitched; he instantly understood what was wrong.
Turning his head, he saw Li Caihua was already staring at him.
Where’s the big-headed Lei? Come save me!
"Qi Hui, why do you never answer my calls?" Li Caihua asked softly, her tone melancholy.
There was no blame, only resentment.
Qi Hui shrugged: "I work out at night and don’t use my phone. By the time I notice, it’s already very late, and I’m afraid of disturbing you, so I didn’t call back."
This was the truth, but a false truth.
He saw the phone vibrating while he was working out; he could have answered, but he left it alone.
"Cough... is there something you need?" Qi Hui asked in an official tone.
Li Caihua’s gaze was deep: "I wanted to thank you for saving me."
"Didn’t you already thank me before?" Qi Hui played dumb.
Before transmigrating, having spent so long on construction sites, he had long since become an expert at playing dumb.
Such things came naturally to him.
"That’s different." Li Caihua stepped forward, her eyes locked on Qi Hui, launching a direct attack: "Qi Hui, can I pursue you?"
Qi Hui: "..."
He had been careless; he hadn’t expected her to be this sincere.
He thought she had recovered her composure over the last few days!
"Cough, cough..." Qi Hui almost choked, subconsciously taking a step back.
Lei Jiayin had been right: a hero saves a beauty, and the beauty wants to offer herself in return.
It was truly absurd; it was the twenty-first century, and things like this still happened.
But Qi Hui had no interest in Li Caihua!
Not to mention whether Li Caihua fit his aesthetic, her personality alone was quite troublesome.
Moreover, Qi Hui had only just left school; why be in such a rush to date someone in the industry?
If this were before he transmigrated, he might have given in, but now he had money and looks—was he afraid he wouldn’t find a partner?
"I don’t want to think about these things right now," Qi Hui refused immediately:
"Dating and such, let’s forget it. Now is the time to strive and work hard."
"I’m very sorry."
Sincerity meets sincerity; Qi Hui had nothing to hide.
