Chapter 261: Fixed Match

"So what if it is? And what if it isn't?"

Lu Yu calmly glanced at the drinks placed before him, then looked straight at Du Hu and asked with an indifferent expression.

"Hahaha."

Du Hu let out a hearty laugh, his face full of nonchalance, and said: "Brother Su is new here and not yet familiar with this place; it is only human nature not to want to easily reveal one's true strength, which is completely understandable.

However, Brother Su, your performance on the Arena just now was truly intriguing; in fact, you inadvertently leaked quite a bit of information.

Take a close look—it's been two or three minutes, and not a single person under the stage has dared to come up and challenge you. The meaning behind this, I presume Brother Su knows better than I do."

As he spoke, Du Hu poured himself a glass of wine and continued: "Brother Su, I must say, your methods are truly brilliant.

Taking advantage of the fact that everyone is confused about your strength to decisively bet on yourself—this move really earned a massive amount of points.

I, Du Hu, admire you from the bottom of my heart, Brother Su. However..." At this point, Du Hu paused deliberately.

"However what?"

Lu Yu knew very well that the other party was deliberately whetting his appetite, but thinking he might as well follow the other's lead to see what kind of tricks they were planning, he played along and asked, his tone remaining unhurried.

"However, with your strength, Brother Su, there is really no need to go to such great lengths and make things so troublesome just to earn points."

"Oh?"

Lu Yu immediately became interested and pressed: "Listening to Brother Du, could it be there is a faster way to earn points than this?"

"That goes without saying."

The corners of Du Hu's mouth curled up, revealing a mysterious smile, "Does Brother Su want to know?"

Lu Yu nodded and said with a calm expression: "Anyone would be curious about such a thing; after all, who wouldn't want to know more ways to earn points?

But if Brother Du feels it is inconvenient to say, or if it involves any secrets, then forget it; I won't force you."

"Hahaha, don't be so impatient, Brother Su."

Du Hu shook his head slightly, glanced toward the door first, then lowered his voice and said: "Since I specifically invited you to this private room today, Brother Su, I certainly intend to tell you this method without reservation.

It's just that this matter is of great importance, and regardless of the final outcome, I hope that every word we speak in this room today will never be spread outside.

Otherwise, not only will I get into big trouble, but you, Brother Su, will likely face a threat to your life."

"A threat to my life?"

Lu Yu was slightly taken aback.

"Brother Su, there is no need to panic."

Du Hu hurriedly waved his hand, replaced his expression with one of reassurance, and said with a smile: "As long as you can keep your mouth shut and not tell anyone about today, there will be no danger at all. You can set your heart at ease."

Lu Yu nodded, indicating he was all ears.

"Actually, only C-Class Awakened are qualified to know about this."

Du Hu smiled and then asked: "Brother Su, have you noticed that there are no C-Class Awakened around the Arena?"

"That's right."

Lu Yu responded: "Could it be that the C-Class Awakened in the Association are all too busy cultivating to participate in the Arena matches?"

"Not at all, not at all."

Du Hu curled his lips into an arc and explained: "It's not that they don't participate; it's that the Arena matches they participate in have their own ways, and their opponents are also C-Class Awakened within the Association.

Everyone has one chance every month, and each match causes a huge sensation, attracting a large number of Awakened to come and place bets, and even many Awakened from other places rush over.

Brother Su, take a guess: how many points can be accumulated in such an Arena match?"

"Ten thousand?" Lu Yu asked, deliberately testing him.

"Too low, guess again."

"Twenty thousand?"

"Brother Su, why don't you be a bit bolder and multiply that number by ten."

"Two hundred thousand!"

Lu Yu feigned a look of shock.

A look of pride appeared on Du Hu's face as he said: "That's right, two hundred thousand, and sometimes it can even reach three hundred thousand.

Brother Su, think about what kind of concept that is. Just from the commission alone, the Association makes a fortune, not to mention the two C-Class Awakened participating—which one of them isn't earning a pocketful of money?

By comparison, the ten thousand points you worked so hard to earn, Brother Su, are really not much to look at."

He looked at Lu Yu meaningfully.

A flash of insight struck Lu Yu, and he seemed to understand the other party's intention in bringing him here. If nothing went wrong, they wanted him to participate in a fixed match.

That's right, the so-called C-Class Awakened Arena match was likely a carefully orchestrated scam from start to finish.

The outcome of the match was decided in advance, just waiting for those clueless E-rank and D-rank Awakened who were dreaming of getting rich overnight to enter the game, and then harvesting their points clean.

The two participating C-Class Awakened took the majority of the profits, the Association took a cut, and only the remaining scraps were left for the Awakened who bet on the right result to divide.

"It seems Brother Su has already guessed it; as expected, communicating with smart people is easy." The smile on Du Hu's face grew even more intense.

Lu Yu felt a secret sorrow for those Awakened outside, then spoke up: "So, Brother Du means for me to cooperate and put on a show when the time comes?"

"Exactly."

Du Hu said with a smile: "Brother Su, you just joined, so even if you revealed a bit of your strength, it doesn't matter.

When the time comes, we will arrange for a powerful C-Class Awakened from the Association to be your opponent.

At that time, Brother Su, feel free to bet on yourself to win, because that person will definitely lose to you in a reasonable and logical way.

Brother Su, think about it—how many points will you be able to earn then? Ten thousand? Twenty thousand? Hehe, I'm afraid it will be fifty thousand or a hundred thousand."

"Wouldn't that person be worried that losing to a newcomer like me would damage their reputation?" Lu Yu asked skeptically.

"Can't they just win it back next time?"

Du Hu said dismissively: "Besides, compared to a hundred thousand points, what is a little bit of face worth?"

"That is true."

Lu Yu took a deep breath inwardly. He had to admit that the other party's proposal was indeed extremely tempting.

How much time could an Arena match take up? Besides, there was no need to go out and risk his life against Fierce Beasts; perhaps in just a few minutes, tens of thousands of points would be in his hands.

It was likely that not only the Rock City Awakened Association, but the situation in other places was probably similar, right?

"Brother Su, if you agree, I will arrange such an Arena match for you within three days at the latest." Du Hu's voice was full of temptation, "You are currently in the limelight, so you must not miss this great opportunity."

Lu Yu smiled and said, "Brother Du, allow me to consider it."

Although he said this, Lu Yu actually had no intention of agreeing in his heart.

After all, a gentleman has things he will do and things he will not.

Previously, when he earned points, it was at most taking advantage of an information gap and using some small tricks, and it was also a matter of being willing to bet and accept the loss; he had a clear conscience.

However, if he were to cooperate with this Du Hu in front of him, that would be outright fraud, harvesting the leeks of other Awakened, and wallowing in the mire with these people; he could not do such a thing.

Moreover, in order to obtain Experience Value, he had to go out hunting and kill Advanced or even Elite-level Fierce Beasts; in this way, earning points was a natural outcome, so why bother doing such a guilty thing?

Sure enough, upon hearing Lu Yu's reply, the expression of Du Hu opposite him instantly turned gloomy.
