Chapter 250: Lunar Dharma Spell
The clouds part and the mist clears, then the bright moon is revealed.
Raising my head to gaze at the bright moon, quiet thoughts reside in my heart.
Riding a dragon carriage to ascend to the heavens, climbing the moon-cassia to pluck its flowers and fruit.
Among the Lushan Various Methods, there is one branch that is the direct transmission of Jingming, known as the Chen Mother Method.
Before Xu Xun had achieved success in his studies, he first heard of a formidable man in his home region named Wu Meng, so he followed Wu Meng to cultivate the Dao; Wu Meng said, "I am only a half-baked practitioner, you must go find the South Sea Commandery Governor to learn," and thus he learned the method of ingestion from the South Sea Commandery Governor.
Later, he heard that Chen Mother was living in seclusion and was an Immortal in the world, so he went to pay her a visit; what Chen Mother cultivated was precisely the Cave God Technique.
Chen Mother knew the names of Ghost Gods and the methods of spell-prohibition, and she knew how to utilize the power of Ghost Gods to enhance her own strength; what she was most skilled in, however, was the power related to the moon.
The most widely circulated book of Xu Zhenjun is titled "Jade Casket Record"; the explanations within regarding the divine spirits one encounters and how to send them away were what Xu Zhenjun recorded from the Cave God Heavenly Book in Chen Mother's jade casket, which was later passed down to the world, allowing the common people to know the taboos of divine spirits so they could avoid disasters and resolve difficulties.
Before this, this knowledge was a secret not to be transmitted; of course, the Jade Casket Record was only a part of it, and later it was said that some of it was efficacious while some was not, and it was also said that the "Three Sovereigns Secret Texts" were the most efficacious, but they were set as forbidden books during the Tang Dynasty and gradually became lost.
This part of the Jingming Daoist books involving Ghost Gods was also lost during the several times the lineage was severed; some say the Ghost Gods took these back to avoid being kept in check again...
The Chen Mother Daoist method is the art of the Lunar Dharma Spell; most of the spirits, ghosts, and essences of the world rely on the essence of the moon to cultivate, and the Lunar Dharma Spell is used to control them through this.
The origin of the Lunar Dharma Spell is ancient; perhaps it was already popular among shamans during the time of the Yellow Emperor, and even more so during the Han Dynasty, with "Corpse Severance to become an Immortal" as the mainstream, and even the so-called Heavenly Palaces and Heavenly Realm were all believed to be within the moon or the sun.
If the Lunar Form-Refining Method is for cultivation, then the Great Yin Dharma Spell is the application of the Corpse Severance Immortal's own power.
It is just that the Chen Mother Lunar Cave God Method that Xu Jia obtained is not entirely complete; even after collecting those minor Yin Master methods in the underworld—those Yin Masters came from five hundred different small worlds—it was still not perfected.
But there is one "Lunar Moon-Absorbing Dew-Collecting Spell Method" that is still efficacious and useful; it is rumored that Emperor Wu of Han built the Dew-Collecting Terrace to collect moon dew to refine the elixir of immortality, which was the use of this method.
Xu Jia refining the mirror is the "Taiyin Dharma Mirror," which precisely requires this spell to absorb the essence of the moon.
The mirror Xu Jia is refining is an ordinary mirror that Xu Mu once used for grooming.
The bronze mirror is polished extremely bright, human figures can be clearly seen, and it is not hazy.
At this moment, it is offered on the Dharma Altar, and behind the mirror are two magpies, indicating that this was a ritual object used during a wedding.
The moon and marriage have always had an indescribable connection.
Immediately, Xu Jia released those five thousand soldiers, the five thousand Dragon-Tiger Soldiers, all of which had been initially converted by the Golden Ship Universal Salvation Array, and there was nothing unusual.
It was just that mist rose in the courtyard again, and those empty ghost ships were summoned out of thin air, appearing in the Dharma Realm within the mist.
These ghost ships were filled with gloomy Yin Qi, as if they were the true bodies of the Dragon-Tiger Water Army, carrying a strange power, wanting to "fill the vacancy," because Xu Jia had converted the water army soldiers on them, their power had fallen to the bottom, and they had been wandering in the Dharma Realm, wanting to trick some ghosts onto the ships to continue forming a water army.
But in the Dharma Realms of Yushan and Dexing, there were no longer any evil ghosts on the surface.
"The moon gestates Yin essence. Within is Great Purity, the Heavenly Human drives the six, the two poles of light shine, I obey the Jingming Dharma Lord's decree, Jijiru Luling!" The next moment, the moonlight became magnificent, and the moon essence fell into the mirror; viewed from the Dharma Realm, a huge cassia tree appeared in the sky, swaying in the wind, dropping many pale yellow cassia flowers, as well as Imperial Dew the size of olive pits.
But these cassia flowers and Imperial Dew only fell into Xu Jia's courtyard.
It was the living creatures, animals, and spirits of Yushan and Dexing counties that discovered the strange phenomenon and bowed to the moon one after another, wanting to beg for some, but they could only share one or two small cassia flowers and smell some of the cassia fragrance.
What the Heavenly Court plays with is "permissions," and what Daoism plays with is "calling for help."
Xu Jia's permissions are not high, but he can also open a portion.
This portion of moonlight does not come from some dead moon, but from the true Lunar, from the depths of the Dharma Realm, from a higher layer of the Heavenly Realm.
Borrowing the power of the Lunar, the Dharma Mirror began to temper and change, and those ghost ships also used the moonlight as water, going against the current, heading toward the moon.
But that moon was aimed directly at the Taiyin Dharma Mirror.
The mirror is the moon, and the moon is the mirror; the ghost ships obtained the moonlight, and the wood on them began to sprout, growing the same cassia flowers; the Lunar Ghost Ship became the Lunar Osmanthus Ship.
Following that were the five thousand Dragon-Tiger Soldiers, among which the Dragon-Headed Soldiers occupied two thousand and the Tiger-Headed Soldiers occupied three thousand; this was not caused by the Dragon-Tiger Profound Qi differentiating into Dragon Qi and Tiger Profound Qi; the Dragon-Tiger Water Army was originally divided into the Dragon Master and the Tiger Master, which are two different military establishments.
Xu Jia then only took the Dragon-Headed Soldiers and merged them into the ships to drill into the Taiyin Dharma Mirror for refining; the Tiger-Headed Soldiers had other uses and he did not intend to continue using them as a water army.
Once the Dragon-Headed Soldiers entered the mirror, they immediately felt the world was vast; that was because they had arrived in another layer of the world, the mirror world; the mirror world also has many strange and inexplicable rules, for example, the human puppets in the mirror are all left behind after people look in the mirror; after leaving the range of the mirror, the human puppets no longer possess their own thoughts and remain motionless until the gaze of the person looking in the mirror falls into the mirror again.
At the same time, the mirror is also a hiding place for some fierce ghosts; just as the dream mirror space has many layers, the mirror space also has layers; when two mirrors face each other, infinite mirror spaces can be generated.
Modern people like to use mirrors in some mazes; in fact, in terms of Feng Shui, this is very taboo; getting lost in a maze is one thing, but getting lost in a mirror, and what comes out might not necessarily be you yourself.
However, for the Daoist school, the mirror is a very practical tool for subduing demons, such as the Eight Trigrams mirror and the Demon-Reflecting Mirror.
These Dragon Master soldiers, what Xu Jia refined were "Lunar Dao Soldiers"; in fact, using zombies to refine them is the best method; using ghost objects to refine Lunar Dao Soldiers cannot bring out their full power.
Yet they also have all kinds of strange and inexplicable powers.
Applying several layers of restraint spells, the profound light of this Dharma Mirror gradually disappeared, and the moonlight no longer fell from the sky.
The moonlight that was not utilized sank into the ground, into every blade of grass and tree in the courtyard, but this was also of no use; no other monsters could be born in Xu Jia's home.
For the final Tiger-Headed Soldiers, numbering a full three thousand, Xu Jia brought out the "Yushan Governing Merit Seal," intending to refine them into this seal to become soldiers accompanying the seal, soldiers stationed in the territory, similar to the City God's City God soldiers.
The Tiger Master soldiers were actually not water soldiers at the beginning; it was only because the water army lacked people that this branch of soldiers was included.
Therefore, using them to guard the territory is the best.
