Some settings

This book is full of village rules, house rules, and secondary settings; please don't get hung up on them.

Level Settings:

Levels 1-5 (Unranked): Mortals.

Levels 6-10 (First Rank): Transcendents, Qi Refining

Levels 11-15 (Second Rank): Foundation Establishment

Levels 16-20 (Third Rank): False Core

Levels 21-25 (Fourth Rank): Mandate of Heaven Legend, Jin Dan

Level 21 is a sublimation, a qualitative change, with two paths.

Swallow one Jin Dan into the belly, and only then know my fate is not governed by heaven.

Fate is like a river, a torrential flood; I who receive the Mandate of Heaven am a legend.

Levels 26-30 (Fifth Rank): Nascent Soul

Levels 31-??: Primordial Spirit

As for what is an immortal, what is a god.

Gods need no further explanation; anyone familiar with D&D will understand.

In reality, Jin Dan is already a quasi-immortal, just one who has never ascended.

If that's the case, what's the difference between becoming an immortal at level 21 versus level 30? One can only say that the higher the level, the stronger one becomes after ascending.

This is why in some ancient texts, certain cultivators showed no respect for deities, even commanding them.

These cultivators had not yet become immortals, but their levels were so high that even immortals and gods could not defeat them.

Or, as some ancient texts record, very weak immortals being slain by cultivators — that is the fault of ascending at too low a level.

For example, the Heavenly Soldiers in the Heavenly Court are precisely this kind of trash immortal.

Any cultivator with profound Dao attainment fears not such riffraff.
