Chapter 6: Powerful Divine Power: Entropy
Powerful Divine Power: Entropy
Entropy (Entropy)
[Title] The Great Nothing, Swallower of Gods, Magechill
[Alignment] Neutral Evil NE
[Divine Power] Powerful Divine Power G → Freed from Tiamat’s control → Quasi-Divine Power N
[Symbol]: A domain of pure blackness
Entropy (Entropy) is a sealed Primordial Deity who later became the god of the Karanoks.
At some point, it was secretly acquired by Tiamat, then broke free and gained autonomy.
It is an extremely peculiar entity: a vast black hole of destruction that no power—divine, magical, or mortal—can stop.
Worship of Entropy involves horrific rituals and human sacrifice (especially of mages). Entropy’s priests are raised in hatred of magic.
The only known temple dedicated to Entropy in all the Realms lies in Luthcheq; this temple is encased within a massive dome of black glass.
Chronology
In 1161 DR, the Karanoks gained control of Luthcheq under highly suspicious circumstances; although all records of the events were destroyed, it is widely speculated that assassinations occurred, as the ancient noble family vanished entirely with no descendants surviving. House Karanok rules the city with strange but remarkably effective governance, waging war against other city-states in the typical Chessenta manner. In 1324 DR, Luthcheq invaded Mordulkin, which had been severely weakened by plague, but was defeated by it. Blaming mage spies serving Mordulkin, the Karanoks became obsessed with destroying mages.
Around 1346 DR, an especially massive black hole of destruction appeared within the largest mansion of House Karanok. The sphere materialized at the center of a torture chamber and utterly destroyed the mage being interrogated. Viewing this as an omen, the family’s members began worshipping this planar aberration they called Entropy. They rebuilt the mansion, converting the sphere’s location into the main hall of a temple. The Karanoks embarked on a blind, non-divine faith, hoping it would help them achieve their goals.
In the second half of 1370 DR, Tiamat used her own power to alter the sphere, enabling it to channel her energy. She began granting divine spells to House Karanok’s nobles under the guise of Entropy. She also caused the sphere to generate several smaller spheres that family members could manipulate. The Karanoks came to worship these smaller spheres as well, learning to summon lowly reptilian monsters called abishai to carry out their and Entropy’s will.
