Chapter 16: Your identity is 'Dodo Bird', beware of everyone!

~7 min read 1,297 words

【Welcome to Church Afterglow】

"Dong—"

A dull bell toll suddenly resounded, echoing leisurely and lingering for a long time.

Once bitten, twice shy.

Su Yang was no longer a raw recruit; he did not panic upon encountering an unfamiliar environment.

He surveyed his surroundings and found himself in a plaza with a massive fountain standing in the center.

The water flowed with a splashing sound, and the sunset afterglow spilled over this ancient city, casting a golden hue upon the marble tiles and cobblestone paths.

The trees by the roadside stood like guards, keeping watch over the benches.

The overall style resembled medieval English architecture—ornate, with vines crawling up the walls.

The air was filled with the scent of flowers, peaceful and secluded.

Standing around Su Yang were fifteen other people, eight men and seven women.

They were all observing the environment, trying to adapt as quickly as possible.

"Where should we go now?" asked a slightly bloated middle-aged man.

"There is a church ahead; I think we should be able to trigger the rule notification once we go inside," said a thin, small man to Su Yang's left.

"I agree. Since the game is called 'Church Afterglow', it must have something to do with the church," a woman nodded in agreement.

"Let's go over and take a look."

With that, the sixteen of them headed toward the church together.

On the way, Su Yang carefully observed everyone's legs; two of the men had very stable stances, like people who had undergone training.

"Were they soldiers or martial artists?" Su Yang temporarily hid his doubts.

Upon entering the church, the first thing that caught their eyes was a massive oil painting depicting a nobleman on horseback slaughtering civilians.

A long table was arranged in the center of the spacious, bright hall, marked with numbers.

From 1 to 16, with names written under each number.

"Assigned seating?" someone asked curiously.

"We'll know once we try," said one of the men with a stable stance as he found his name and sat down.

His number was 4—Xiang Hao.

"What does this number mean? Is this some kind of puzzle game?" the thin, small man found his seat and sat down.

"Don't you think this is like Werewolf? Sitting down for a meeting and speaking in numerical order," a girl with lively eyes said with a smile as she sat down.

"Werewolf wouldn't need this many players, right? There are sixteen of us."

"Perhaps it's a game similar to Werewolf?" Su Yang said slowly.

He walked around and finally found his seat at the end of the table, facing the far end of the hall.

Number 8—Su Yang.

Among the crowd, a plump, voluptuous middle-aged woman sat down next to Su Yang and said, "Werewolf games are for you young people; I've never played one. Will it be very difficult?"

She was number 7—Kong Feixue.

At this moment, a young man wearing a white T-shirt—a gift from the 'Daily Necessities Gift Pack'—smiled and said, "Don't worry, sister. I'm a Werewolf master. I'll teach you how to play; I guarantee you'll be a beginner no more."

"Hehe, you have such a sweet mouth, little brother," Kong Feixue giggled.

It had to be said that her looks were the best among the seven women.

There was another woman who looked quite good, but her complexion was rather dull, and she kept people at a distance.

She sat in seat number 1, directly facing Su Yang, and said in a low voice, "We are all people who survived the first round of the death game. Stop putting on an act; it's truly disgusting."

The young man, Zhou Han, stood up and said, "By that logic, you're already very familiar with the process of all death games?"

"Only losers look for protection; such people should die early," Yu Yue said coldly without looking up.

"Fine, fine, fine. I'd like to see how many rounds you can survive," Zhou Han felt his face burning.

Xiang Hao looked at her name. "Yu Yue, right? It's normal for everyone to ask questions if they don't know the game process. Why be so aggressive?"

Yu Yue was like a rose with thorns, refusing to yield an inch. She looked at his name as well.

"Xiang Hao, right? We're going to kill each other anyway. Instead of being hypocritical, it's better to point it out early so that some people's 'saintly' hearts don't affect the camp's victory."

As soon as these words were spoken, Zhou Han was furious. "Who are you calling a saint? Make yourself clear!"

"I said what I said, and those who know, know," Yu Yue said calmly. "What? Did Miss Zhou take it personally?"

Miss?

Su Yang's mouth twitched slightly; this kind of biting sarcasm was rare.

Such people were likely unpopular in the real world.

But in a death game, they were the most selfish and the most likely to survive.

"You..." Zhou Han stood up and pointed at her, laughing through gritted teeth. "I won't lower myself to your level. You'd better pray you don't fall into my hands."

"I've heard such low-level threats too many times. Everyone who has said that to me has already died by my hand," Yu Yue glanced at him.

This gaze was filled with killing intent, like a winter demon, chilling to the bone.

The atmosphere in the hall quickly froze. The plump middle-aged man tried to smooth things over. "We should all be from Prison 881, right? Why don't we share our rankings?"

However, no one responded. The plump man didn't feel awkward and introduced himself first. "My total points are 150, ranking 3762."

Xiang Hao: "Total points 160, ranking 1876."

Zhou Han: "Total points 160, ranking 1888."

Kong Feixue: "Total points 180, ranking 523."

Hiss!

Everyone couldn't help but gasp. This seemingly delicate beauty actually had such high points?

Zhou Han was even more surprised; he had just said he would 'take care of' her, only to find out she was even more formidable than him.

"What's wrong? Are 180 points very high?" Kong Feixue asked, puzzled.

Su Yang looked at Yu Yue and said with a playful smile, "There are even higher ones. We have someone here who is ranked 11th."

"What?"

"Who is it?"

"Wouldn't 11th place mean 200 points?"

Everyone followed Su Yang's gaze, thinking, *No way, right? *

"What's so surprising? It's not like I'm the only one with 200 points; he is too," Yu Yue looked at the 16th player, Sun Wei.

Sun Wei was an ordinary-looking boy, about the same age as Su Yang.

Facing the surprised gazes of the crowd, he just waved his hand shyly.

"Looking at it this way, players with high and low points are all here. It seems the game matching has nothing to do with points," the plump man said.

"Who cares about that? Just do it," Zhou Han was particularly eager to show off, wanting to interject in everything.

Especially after realizing his points were lower than Yu Yue's, his pride had taken a heavy hit.

He was desperate to regain face.

A moment later, an envelope suddenly appeared on everyone's table.

"This should be the game hint," the plump man guessed.

Su Yang opened the envelope and took out the paper inside.

Before checking it, he scanned the state of everyone present.

After all, if there was a talent like Zhao San's that could peek at others, he had to be extremely careful.

But after watching for a while, he saw that everyone was carefully studying the contents of their papers and making no extra moves, so Su Yang finally felt relieved.

However, upon looking down, a line of blood-red characters caught his eye.

"Your identity is 'Dodo Bird', beware of everyone!"
