Chapter 380: Yan Dongyun's Choice! Stubborn Determination!

~7 min read 1,289 words

The two sat on the sofa, three meters apart, gazing at each other, and the atmosphere grew increasingly subtle.

Yan Dongyun bluntly rejected, "Su Yang is the person my husband respects most; I cannot comply."

The Second Hall Master, seeing this, his lecherous gaze suddenly turned cold, "So his safety is more important than your father's life?"

"My father brought this on himself; I made it clear to him early on that ever since I married into the Lin family I have no ties with him. If he wants to kill or maim, be my guest," Yan Dongyun said resolutely.

"What a clean break. Your father gambles at the betting hall, not also to help your brother marry a wife?" the Second Hall Master said with a laugh.

Saying that, the Second Hall Master stood, buttoned his suit, and said, "Since you refuse to agree, I must go discuss it with your brother."

As soon as the words fell, he walked straight toward the door without hesitation.

Yan Dongyun's complexion instantly turned sour; she and her brother have relied on each other for years, and their father never gave the two sisters a single cent.

A gambling father, an incompetent brother, and herself in disgrace.

If the Donghai Hall comes knocking, her brother can only be forced to accept this assignment.

The outcome then is easy to imagine.

Thinking of this, Yan Dongyun felt deeply conflicted.

On one hand, he is her husband's brother; on the other, a blood relative.

No matter the choice, she must sacrifice one side.

She recalled the warm scenes of recent days, and a flash of unwillingness and pain crossed her eyes.

"Wait!"

Finally, as the Second Hall Master was about to open the door and leave, Yan Dongyun spoke up.

A smug smile curled at the Second Hall Master's mouth corner, but when he turned back the smile vanished, leaving only indifference.

"What? Have you thought it through?"

"I will agree, but this is the last time. Once it's done, the debt is cleared, you must release my father, and forbid him from ever entering the betting hall again," Yan Dongyun shouted.

"If you can do that, everything is negotiable," the Second Hall Master returned to the living room and handed out the syringe.

Yan Dongyun stared at the vessel containing pale yellow liquid, clenched her teeth and took it.

The moment she grasped the syringe, it felt like she had taken on a thousand‑pound burden, and her delicate body trembled slightly.

Seeing this, the Second Hall Master instructed, "Find a chance tonight to go in and give Su Yang an injection. Rest assured, it's merely a sleeping drug; it won't endanger his life."

"Why me?" Yan Dongyun lowered her head, her waterfall‑like hair falling over her eyes, obscuring her expression.

"Because your husband is the person Su Yang trusts most, and they know nothing of your identity or past; you are the most suitable front," the Second Hall Master explained.

"What if it fails?"

"The consequences will naturally fall on you. If you leak me out, your brother and father will never see the sun again in this life," the Second Hall Master said lightly.

Having said that, he turned and left, and before the door reminded, "Remember, you have only this one chance tonight."

"Bang!"

When the gate closed, Yan Dongyun could no longer control her emotions, covering her face and sobbing bitterly.

She has spent her whole life giving to her family like a puppet.

Because her mother died early, her brother is considerably older than her, and their father is a gambling man.

Basically she alone raised her brother.

Just when she finally enjoyed peaceful days, reality dealt her a heavy blow.

Yan Dongyun lowered her head, looking at the ring on her pinky, her heart aching immensely.

"I'm sorry…"

……

Night fell.

The trees lining the road had long withered, and the branches hinted at a frosty coating.

People packed up early, eager to return home and huddle by the fire with family, enjoying a warm night.

The once bustling market instantly grew desolate.

The cold wind bit sharply as Yan Dongyun wrapped herself in a coat and walked through it.

She arrived at the South City First People's Hospital entrance, glanced up at the inpatient wing, and a look of hesitation appeared in her eyes.

When she saw the heavily guarded gate, her heart began to drum a retreat.

But thinking of the consequences, she forced herself to go inside.

When her figure vanished into the crowd, the Second Hall Master, who had been waiting outside, said, "Proceed according to the plan."

"Brother, our people are ready, just awaiting your command."

"The 'Twin Stars' are about to take the stage; we have little time left. Today we must make Su Yang shut his mouth forever!" the Second Hall Master said gravely.

It is their only, and final, hope.

If professionals were truly allowed in, they might uncover something and the consequences would be unimaginable.

Moreover, with no proof of death, Su Yang could say anything and plunge them into a dead end.

Thus, without killing him, this is already the limit.

"Will that little girl obey?" someone asked.

"Even if she refuses, she must obey; after all, her most beloved brother is in our hands," the Second Hall Master sneered.

Fourth floor of the inpatient wing.

Yan Dongyun, with a nervous heart, arrived at the floor where Su Yang was.

She had just arrived when she saw a group of Search Army, and her face turned pale.

However, she quickly adjusted her mood, pretended to visit a relative and walked forward.

But at that moment, a huge force suddenly dragged her into an empty ward.

Ah!

Yan Dongyun subconsciously tried to shout, but a hand suddenly clamped over her mouth.

The Search Army heard the noise and turned their heads toward the staircase.

A nurse pushed a cart into a ward to check a patient, and there was no one behind her.

Seeing this, the Search Army dismissed their doubts and continued to guard.

In a corner they couldn't see, Yan Dongyun stared in terror at the two masked figures before her.

Her first reaction was that the situation was exposed, and she felt utterly hopeless.

"Wife, why are you here?"

The next moment, a familiar voice sounded.

Yan Dongyun was startled, and her struggling weakened considerably.

"It's me, Lin Yang."

The masked person on the left removed his mask.

"Husband..."

Yan Dongyun, finally finding an outlet for her grievances, threw herself into Lin Yang's arms and sobbed softly.

Facing this, Lin Yang was stunned and asked in confusion, "What are you...?"

He had just begun to ask when he saw a corner of a syringe protruding from the other's sleeve amid a sudden movement.

Lin Yang's pupils narrowed slightly, he suddenly recalled something, and snatched the syringe out.

Yan Dongyun's heart trembled, and she hurriedly said, "Husband, listen to my explanation; they forced me."

"What exactly happened?" Lin Yang's anger boiled, yet he did not lose his reason despite the betrayal of someone close.

Yan Dongyun had nowhere to evade and could only recount the whole story.

Lin Yang closed his eyes and took a deep breath, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I was afraid they would harm you, so I..." Yan Dongyun whispered.

"If I hadn't been here early, keeping watch, would you have acted?" Lin Yang asked.

Yan Dongyun gave no answer, but the remorse on her face still betrayed her inner thoughts.

"You knew full well that Su Yang is my most important brother, yet you still chose to act on your own," Lin Yang shook his head, smiled faintly, his complexion grim.
