Chapter 1178: Cold
"General Yishang, you're awake! Just in time, our porridge is almost ready!"
A young lad, seeing that Yishang's condition didn't seem very good, hurriedly helped Yishang over to hide under the wind-sheltered Tent. Only after Yishang sat down beside the fire did he feel a bit better.
But while his chest was warm, his back was still cold.
"You all woke up quite early. Looking at the state of the clouds, it's unlikely to stop for a while. Prepare for a short stay here; as soon as the Snow stops, hurry and find firewood.
And the cattle—find a way to get them some food too. We humans don't need to worry, as we still have plenty of stored grain, but the cattle don't. You must not let the cattle go hungry; if they get hungry, they really might run off."
A Soldier hurriedly said, "General, we fed the cattle this morning before cooking our own meal. We found plenty of leaves and even dug up some dried Grass in the Snow. They can barely manage to eat today, but we'll go look again at noon. We definitely won't let the cattle go hungry."
These Soldiers from the Western Development Group had deep feelings for the cattle; they would rather go hungry themselves than let the cattle starve. They were even more worried about the cattle than Yishang was.
"That's good. Keep a close eye on them. You, go find my robe in my luggage, and my hat too; bring them both over to me."
"I seem to be inferior to you young people; I feel terribly cold."
A Soldier immediately went to look for Yishang's clothes, because the weather hadn't yet turned cold enough to wear Winter robes; he had only been wearing thin autumn attire.
It was colder in the morning and evening, but with thick furs covering them, it wasn't that cold. Moreover, except for Yishang, everyone else was huddled together in Tents with several people.
Although the space was small and the air inside was poor, it was warm. With several people sleeping together, the temperature was quite high. Yishang slept alone, with only himself generating heat, so he slept less comfortably than the others.
After the Winter clothes were brought to Yishang, he immediately put them on over his autumn clothes, which made him look very bloated.
He also put on his hat to make his head feel a little more comfortable. He hadn't expected such a situation last night at all; otherwise, he definitely would have gone out dressed warmly enough.
But even dressed so thickly, Yishang suddenly shivered, because he still felt cold and not very warm at all. He didn't understand why, so he leaned closer to the fire.
"Achoo!"
Yishang let out a huge sneeze toward the fire, and snot ran out. Yishang wanted to sniff it back, but he couldn't, which was very embarrassing.
He had no choice but to grab a handful of clean Snow from behind him, cup it under his nose to blow it clean, and then wipe his face with the Snow. He felt much clearer, but his head still felt very uncomfortable.
Everyone noticed Yishang's condition. A Soldier walked over to Yishang with small steps and asked, "General, are you sick? Shall I have the Military Doctor come take a look at you?"
Yishang stubbornly replied, "No, it's just too cold. I just came out of the Tent and haven't adjusted yet. A drink of hot porridge will fix it."
The Soldier was worried, but could only follow Yishang's lead.
Just then, the porridge was ready. The first bowl was served to Yishang in his exclusive large wooden bowl. Yishang said that only a bowl this big could demonstrate his appetite and his strong physique.
But Yishang immediately felt uneasy, because he actually had no appetite at all and felt bloated in his stomach.
He remembered Baifeng saying that if a person didn't want to eat when it was time to eat, it meant the person was sick, and not lightly sick either.
Yishang almost couldn't hold his bowl steady. Finally, he sighed and had to accept his fate, calling out to the Soldier, "Go, call the Military Doctor over to take a look at me. I might really be sick; I can't even eat my food."
The Soldier said "Yes" and quickly went to call for him. The Military Doctor was still some distance away, also holding his rice bowl and preparing to get his food.
"Military Doctor, hurry and go take a look! Our General seems to be sick!"
"What?" The Military Doctor was shocked, then hurriedly lifted his bowl, gulped down a mouthful, and in a rush, found a corner to set his bowl down before immediately going to see Yishang.
"General, how are you feeling?"
Seeing the Military Doctor had arrived, Yishang stated his symptoms: "Sigh, I just feel a severe headache. I thought it was just the strong wind last night blowing on my head and that I'd be fine after a sleep, but I didn't expect this."
"Another thing is that I have a lot of snot, and I feel especially cold."
"I can't eat either. Baifeng said that if you can't eat, that's a serious illness."
The Military Doctor was a bit flustered. He hurriedly checked Yishang's pulse, then looked at his tongue coating, and finally concluded that Yishang had a cold—a Wind-Cold cold.
It wasn't a major illness, but that was back in Huaxia City. Here, he didn't even have medicine; he only had some emergency Hemostatic Powder and things for suturing. Everything was prepared for war and external injuries.
A cold—who could have thought of that? And there were so many types of colds, and lung-system diseases weren't just limited to colds. Should he have brought cold medicine? What about other things? He certainly couldn't have brought everything. Going on a long journey wasn't the same as moving house; it was impossible to bring everything.
He informed Yishang that it wasn't a major illness, but the problem was, there was no medicine!
A few Soldiers gathered around and said, "Military Doctor, tell us what medicine is missing, and we'll go find it!"
The Military Doctor pointed at the Heaven and said, "It's snowing this hard right now; where are you going to find it? Even without the Snow, you probably wouldn't be able to find all those medicines for a while, let alone now."
"Then what should we do? The General can't stay sick forever!"
The Military Doctor sighed and said, "Now we can only use acupuncture. General, there's no other way. After the needles, you might feel a bit better. Then drink some porridge and get some good rest; you should be able to recover."
Yishang rubbed his stomach: "Fine, go ahead. Do whatever you think will work. I'll listen to everything you say now. When it comes to treating illness, whatever you say goes."
"Just get me well as soon as possible. I can't even eat now; if there's any emergency, it'll be troublesome."
The Military Doctor agreed and immediately went back to his own Tent to get his medicine chest. His chest was his treasure; he couldn't even leave it outside while sleeping.
However, when he came back after getting it, he still hurriedly went back first to finish his bowl of porridge at lightning speed. If he didn't drink some porridge, he would starve and faint himself.
