Chapter 1397: Dispute
"General!"
A Soldier ran over in a slightly flustered manner, but upon seeing a group of people from the Xuanyuan Tribe beside Lu, he suddenly did not know whether he should speak.
Lu asked first: "What is it?"
That Soldier wore a worried expression: "Reporting to the General! The quantities of our Bombs and Arrows have been tallied."
That Soldier also glanced at Xuanyuan and the others, not stating the exact numbers.
Lu, however, said calmly: "It's fine, just say it here."
"Yes, General!
According to the tally, we now only have one hundred and twenty-seven Bombs left, only three and a half crates of Iron Arrows remain, there are only a little over five crates of Stone Arrows left, and the headless arrows are scattered, totaling less than two crates.
The Soldiers who used Bombs last night also cannot remember exactly how many they threw, so there is currently no accurate count for the Bombs; you will still need to sign the inventory and tally lists."
Hearing these numbers, Lu felt it was a bit troublesome and could not help but scratch his head a few times with his fingernails. With this small amount of Weaponry, it would be fine if they did not encounter any large-scale tribes later, but if they truly did, they would have to send their Soldiers up to engage in hand-to-hand combat.
Xuanyuan felt that this quantity of Bombs was quite large; after all, in a smaller battle, throwing out a dozen or so was already enough to intimidate a group of people. Now, the deterrent and intimidating effect of the Bombs was actually stronger than their own lethality.
"Where is the list? Bring it here for me to sign."
The Soldier immediately handed over a folder, along with a brush that had been dipped in ink. Lu licked the tip of the brush with his tongue, using saliva to dissolve the slightly dried ink, then signed the tally lists and stamped them.
Now that the number of Bombs and Arrows in the warehouse was confirmed, if any problems arose during the next count, they could follow this signed list to find the source of the trouble. Because there had never been any issues before, Lu would not personally count them again; he still trusted his Soldiers very much.
"Wait a while before going down to clean the battlefield; you can also recover the arrows from those corpses. Especially the Iron Arrows, you must check them very carefully; it is best if they can all be recovered. For the Stone Arrows and headless arrows, just pick up what is usable and bring them back," Lu gave his final arrangements.
"Yes! General!"
After the Soldier left, Lu changed to a worried expression: "Tribal Chief Xuanyuan, you heard it too. The number of Bombs we are carrying is not high, and there are not many Arrows left, so from now on, when facing those larger tribes, we must fight even more steadily."
Xuanyuan naturally replied: "No problem." At this time, there could not be any other answer.
As for why the Huaxia and Xuanyuan Tribe could not see the enemies, it was because those who fled tried their best to run far away, and after the rain stopped, they smeared mud and Grass all over their bodies, becoming almost one with Nature. How could they be seen? Even at a closer distance, it was not certain they could be spotted, let alone from so far away.
However, only a small portion of people remained. The women had nowhere to go, and the few who survived chose to stay beside the men, who were more numerous, because they needed protection, even though those men felt they could barely protect themselves—but at least they had Weapons in their hands.
The Jiang Cheng Tribe and Jiang Ming Tribe basically all stayed behind. Those who fled were the scattered individuals; they knew they could no longer return to the Shennong Clan, but with so few people in their hands, they did not know where to go. In the middle of the night, they could not even find their Tribal Chief.
Therefore, they all prepared to wait until dawn. Either the two Jiang Surname tribes would merge together again and flee to seek a living elsewhere—although there were not many people left, added together they still counted as a not-so-small tribe. On such vast land, finding a piece of territory to survive on was still possible. As long as they were not known by Shennong or discovered by the Xuanyuan Tribe, they could live a good life for several years and restore their strength.
The people of the Jiang Cheng Tribe were fine; after all, when dawn came, their Tribal Chief was still alive, had not fled, was not insane, and still had decision-making ability. But the people of the Jiang Ming Tribe almost turned the earth over, and in the end, they only found their Tribal Chief, who had turned blue and was dead as could be.
Never mind leading them to a comeback; he was about to be scavenged by vultures and crows. The people of the Jiang Ming Tribe were now almost like headless flies, and the last few surviving Leaders could not reach a complete consensus.
Half of the people decided to leave on their own to find another place to survive; after all, their Tribal Chief was already dead, and if they returned to the Shennong Clan, they would certainly be punished. The other half wanted to go and join the Jiebing Tribe and the Jiang Cheng Tribe first.
Not to mention continuing the counterattack, even if they were just fleeing and leaving the Shennong Clan, their force would be larger and they would be safer in the future.
Because there was no discussion, they simply split up; whoever wanted to follow whom could do so. They quickly split into two teams, and the numbers were about the same. Now, counting them up, there were less than ten thousand men and women in total, and once split, each team only had four or five thousand people.
The Soldiers of the Jiebing Tribe searched for a long time but could not find their Tribal Chief. Before they even started considering what to do in the future, they began to fight over food. The survivors began to frantically scramble for the remaining food and wealth, even resorting to using Weapons and killing each other.
Of course, looking at the big picture, there were still two factions: one faction wanted to seize the food and seek another way out, while the other faction wanted to keep the food and return to the Shennong Clan. If they returned to the Shennong Clan now, they would not necessarily be punished; there was still a possibility that Shennong might spare them.
Moreover, they still had to send back intelligence about the Huaxia and Xuanyuan Tribe so they would know how terrifying the Huaxia and Xuanyuan Tribe were. Furthermore, their tribal foundation was at Changyang Mountain; if they returned, the Jiebing Tribe would still be there. If they left now, what would that be?
Although the Tribal Chief was gone, there were Soldiers and Leaders loyal to the tribe. The Great Shaman who might have been able to speak up had already died last night. It was unknown how he died; perhaps he was scared to death upon seeing that there was a Great Shaman who could continuously release such terrifying Heavenly Thunder, or perhaps he died of shame? After all, he could not even fully understand the feedback and revelations from Heaven. Now that he had seen a Great Shaman who could thoroughly communicate with the Heavenly Gods and make the Heavenly Gods help him fight, how could he not be afraid?
It was better to return to the embrace of the Heavenly Gods quickly; what was the point of staying in the human world?
Without a Tribal Chief and a Great Shaman, those Soldiers who wanted to flee could be said to be afraid of nothing, because staying meant death, and seizing food to leave might allow them to live longer. They could distinguish that for themselves.
